Rail line to chib. through chapais and should have got gas in chapais.8 kms out of chib. ran out waited in the poring rain for my comrade (45min.) still optimistic. Nordic inn dried out and the trails and railines for the day 10 out of 10 zero traffic. Cold front moved in with wrath approx 7.00pm. kms for the day 300kms. Sunday morn. minus 23 cold windy. Rode the 307 south to rapid sept junction and back down the same way as we came. Bottom line trails were outstanding untill we got half way down the rapid sept and the rain really destroyed the trails below that. We thought we were going to have to retrieve are trucks and bring them up to the Bearn area, it was pretty dicey. We toughed it out got on the railline around Favre and the rail line right to timiscaming was outstanding.Flat and some fast with ample granual. The trails 7 out of ten. At the truck at 3.00pm. Total distance approx 1840 kms 4 days and probably the best ride this year and most of last.Cheers!
  2. Wanted to share with you fellow Quebec riders my experience in abitibi. Left Timmiscaming Thursday Feb 18. rode to Quevillion via the 93 through Duperquet up through Tashereau Barrutte bypassed Senneterre and straight up to Quevillion. Fast flat no traffic to speak of. Approx 680 kms. Next day up to Chibougamou via Miquelen. Absolutely The best trail system in the world. Flat fast rolling hills 160kms railline with one to two stop signs and the ability to run at 150 to 160 kms per hour for an hour. Got to the nordic approx 270kms. Left Chib. at 6.15 am Waiting for 7.00 am in chapais for gas. Got to Miquelin at 8.35 am to find out he doesn,t open on Saturday untill 10.00 am. He showed up at 9.30 am. Left went back across the 93 to the amos split. Went south on the (don,t quote me the trail number) 309 through Lacorne and Lamotte to the valdor split. Took the 83 through malarctic Caddilac etc to Royann noranda. All and all not bad Was a little punched in the valdor area and going west on the 83 but have ridden that corridor at times alot worse. Approw kms 680 kms. Sunday rode back down to Timmiscaming Arrived at the truck 1.30 p.m. Approx kms 250 kms. All in all 8 out of ten. Virtually no traffic lots of grooming flat fast great experience. I am sorry for not giving trail numbers but have not used a map in this area for atleast 8 years. We come up average of 6 times a year. Bottom line there is no better in Quebec, The trail system is second to none. Get up there. Snow depth is adequate although they are down like everywhere. Safe riding.
  3. Iceman, i am not associated with the abitibi region it were i ride approx 5,000 miles a year. I,m from Toronto area and the drive here is only 4 hrs for me. Heres the straight goods, take them as you wish. Rode out of temiscamming friday jan 15. Temiscamming to amos. approx 400 kms. Other than 5 kms bad hydro line. 8-10 smooth fast no traffic. Jan 16 Amos to senneterre. Approx 110 kms. We rode this at 90mph. pretty much the whole way. Fast smooth no traffic. Seneterre to quevillion 120 kms. Ridden at approx 90mph. Smooth fast no traffic Quevillion to louvercourt 175kms. Smooth fast 80 mph. No traffic. Louvercourt to royan noranda 210 kms. 5 kms rough between valdor and malarctic other then that excellent. Lakes above valdor are staked ice huts trucks etc. Below valdor or east is all land based trail. Royan to temiscamming is mostly railbed, excellent fast no traffic. All my business cards are still in the heated huts from last year. I think i saw more groomers then sleds on friday. Approx mileage 1255 kms. By the way this area is the superspeedways of quebec hands down. The railline from chibougamau to miqulen 100 mph if you wish One stop sign. It is truly incredible. Watch your gas. I would like to keep this jewel of an area to myself it,s just not right. Maybe will see you there weather permitting jan 28-29-30-31.
