  1. Here is one for you Bill. I don't think it has changed in 50 years....
  2. Thank's, I actually have that book!! I bought it from Leo at one of the shows a couple years ago. I forgot all about it. I will dig it up in my bag of maps....
  3. I basically just picked Peekskill off the map. It seemed to be the right distance from the city to make the ride interesting and they had a public boat ramp.
  4. Hey Karl... We started from Peekskill NY. It's about 40 miles or so from the tip of Manahttan. We went around battery park and up the East river through the Halem river and back on to the Hudson. It was 101 miles on the GPS. Riding time was about 6 hrs. Here is a good shot of the Empire State Bldg.
  5. We took the SeaDoos down the Hudson and around Manhattan. It's a whole lot different than being in the woods of Quebec!!!! Lots of good sights though!!!!! My back is telling me 100 miles on a SeaDoo seems to be the same a 300 on Quebec trails
  6. They ship them free to the US also. Most of the clubs also come down to the local shows in the fall with the new maps too..
  7. Well I already have the first half of the week planned... Shawinigan to Jonquiere. Ride the Valin area for a few days then head out. I have ridden all over Valin, Gaspe, Bas st laurent, etc so I wanted to try the western part of Quebec. We have 8 days so we can cover some good ground.
  8. Thanks, I have used the tool on FCMQ before. 300 miles is a bit much for one of my riding buddies. Is the ride up to chibougamau is moslty fast railbed? If so I can probably convince him to do it....
  9. Hi Guys, I am in the beginning stages of trip planning for the year. How far is Chibougamau from Jonquiere? From there where would you head? We would like to go west and end up in Shawinigan in 3-4 days. We usually ride about 225-250miles per day. Any ideas??
  10. We could not move the sled at all. The water was 4' deep all around it so unless we wanted to wade in it was not coming out. The middle of the trail was safe but it was glare ice so a tow sled had no traction. A guy with an F150 came down and pulled him out. Luckily the trail was close the the road. This was the last day of the ride so not a huge problem. The temp dropped to 0 that night and his bags and clothes were a solid block of ice!! He had to use a torpedo heater to get them off.
  11. No, and it actually makes your sled lighter
  12. Here is one on the north side of Gaspe.
  13. I hate it when it pours for 2 days and your in the middle of a bag trip..... This is outside Beauce...
  14. My absolute favorite is the B&B across the street from Relais 540. Oasis de la bretagne. Margo and Geatan are the simply the nicest people around. All you have to so is stay there once and you have an instant extended family in Quebec.
  15. Check out the Skidoo muffs. The ones I use basically go to your wrist. They work perfect for me.
  16. Couple things I forgot... Butane lighter, Matches, First aid kit, 15' tow strap, siphon..
  17. I use an HJC CL14. It's comfortable and reasonably light but the wind noise is awful. anyone have a helmet they really love? I also prefer to use a heated shield instead of a mouthpiece like the BVS helmets....
  18. I don't have a ton of experience with winter truck tires but they do make an incredible difference on cars. My wifes Passat is actually better in the snow than my F150 4X4. I am lazy... so my wife has had her blizzaks on now for 2 years straight.(35K) and they are pretty worn. They are soft so rotation is probably important. Changing them out in the summer is good idea since they tend to grab the ridges in the road and tug on the wheel. They are noisier too. What about a second set of low cost wheels? Then you can change them yourself in the driveway....
  19. I wear the SkiDoo Snocross gloves. They are by far the best gloves I have owned. They are very thin on the inside which actually helps get the hadwarmer heat to your hands and reduce fatigue but have good wind protection and insulation on the top. I also use the short Skidoo muffs when it is cold to keep the wind off. I like the gauntlets but you do have to get used to them if you pull your hands off the bars to signal a lot. Other than getting your hand back in to them they don't seem to restrict movement. I do know I signal A LOT less when using them. On cold days they are priceless..... I just stuff them in the saddle bag when it gets warmer.
  20. I 2nd the extra heated shield cord. Mine was acting up last year and we stopped at a dealer in Sacre Coeur and they wanted $37 for one!!! I figured I could fix what I had instead!! In additions to what Smclelan carries... I also carry a small LED flasher I can stick on the sled in case of a breakdown at night. Cheapo digital watch as an alarm clock Leatherman multi tool Cold medication Rolaids Tooth glue, If Ike is reading this he'll understand!!! Skidoo batteryless light English to French translation booklet Camera Cable lock bungee cords(for those broken turnbuckles) Electrical tape Cell phone Plastic bottle of "Ron Carioca" for after the ride. Fuses + Relays (I ride an ski doo SDI) A couple of small nuts and bolts as spares. Holy crap now I know why it weighs so much!!
  21. OK. I just thought there was a way to include the existing pic in the reply..... Back to Where am I!!!!
  22. Thanks... I meant how can I repeat the picture from the original post? When I replied only the text was quoted? I knew how to post a new pic..... Chris
  23. T-shirt-Preferably snowmobile themed $?? Discount Skidoo brand Jacket from Kayahora $59 Wal-Mart sweat pants $12 Chocko snow pants $100 Getting pricy here!!! Tube socks- $2 White or slightly yellowing... Low buget Kamick snow boots... $60 I also pack a sweatshirt and SkiDoo gauntlets for those days below 0...... Oh yeah of course the Tek vest too!!! This is good to -20F or so. The part I have trouble with is wind leaks around the helmet.....
  24. It's funnny, I bet if the members of this site all got together with their photo albums they would look the same. One of the things I really enjoyed from the early days of HCS was looking at your photo page from years past.... Now 4-5 years later I have the same pictures with me in them!!
