artcat900
Sea ice coverage anomalies over northeastern Canada The latest update as of July 18 from the Canadian Ice Service showed that to no surprise the sea ice coverage from Hudson Bay on Northeast was well below the median for this time of year. Based on the graph below, and confirmed by satellite, Hudson Bay was almost free of sea ice. It appears that the melt out is running at least a month ahead of what it normally is. Looking at the long-range models, it also looks like the weather will favor another slow freeze-up early this coming winter, which could have an impact on the overall atmospheric circulation and certainly air temperatures near the Hudson Bay. The image below shows the sea ice concentration departure from normal over northeastern Canada as of July 18. The Ice Service map obviously shows that the sea ice concentration was running below normal throughout much of the region. http://www.accuweath...-at-sea-ice.asp
