  1. Wondering what communicators people are using? Please include manufacturer and model because as I’ve seen with Sena and Uclear there are many different models. Also could you include what helmet it’s on? I’m looking for new communicators for the oxygen helmet. Wife hasn’t been riding since mid 2000’s but is going to go this year. Back then we had Collett and they worked decent. Biggest complaints back then were sometimes my jacket collar would hit the speaker tube and activate the mic and getting the mic at the right location, I remember sometimes having to take my hand and push my helmet up in the front in order to talk.

  2. Wondering if anyone can make a suggestion for a light weight dust cover for a 2020 MXz 600? I had a sno-stuff one that worked well on my 120” MXz but with this new longer suspension it does fit. Not looking for anything heavy, something that would fold up into a small pouch. Something easy to store in a hotel room during the day. Just looking to cover my sled at night. Thanks!

I don't think so, but thanks for sharing.

Les Ours Blancs SC are opening that closed section west of mt-laurier today. They are sending 2 groomers... vice-president said that on the weekly chronicle on the local radio.

Thanks Mid Range, appreciate the update.  This years seems to be a lot more closures than past years and it's hard to find out info.

The club that took care of that section, Les Panaches of Lac-du-Cerf, no longer exists.  It's membership slowly diminished, it's Board members became elderly, and, with no replacements, they were forced to close.  Club Amico of Notre-Dame-du-Laus was approached to take over that stretch of trail but, with its resources already stretched to the limit, their Board was forced to decline for the time being. Too bad, because the new owners of the Auberge Presqu'ile are doing their best to make a go of it, and that was a really good alternate route into Mont-Laurier.

Just curious, is it a funding issue or human resource issue.  I've always been impressed with how FCMQ operates when compared to how snowmobiling is governed down here in the US.

    Day 2

    February 4

Great stay as usual ot Windigo, better hosts than Martine and Dan you will not find.

Full house as a gang of 14 arrived albeit around 8pm but they made it. Not sure what was up but was a group of tourists from France and 2 guides. One guide they said was the boss had his arm in a sling. Surely he didn’t ride one handed all day? I didn’t ask. Superbowl was anything but super, who cares. Sleepy gang woke up at 7am, had breakfast and checked out the fox having the chicken bones, very cool. Locked and loaded and off at 8:30am. The driveway to Windigo is way to much fun. Backtracked the necessary trail to hit the 83 west. Beautiful is an understatement to Wemotachi. Caught up to another group who left Windigo 30 minutes before us halfway to Wemo. Gas at Wemo and off to the next run on 83 west. Wow! is all I can say. Ripped it to Parent at the Gas Bar in Parent at 11:15. Good time ... this was about to change. This trip starting yesterday I have been giving Kwiknick a chance to lead. All of yesterday afternoon and all morning to date no problems. He rides like the wind but is all the way right like his old man trimming the bush on the right. Every intersection and stop he has been looking for me to give him a head nod or point the next direction. Well up until we arrived at Jct TQ13 and TQ83. I pull up after leaving Parent and he is not there. I am disappointed, he just failed his training. Inspection of ski prints yields not much to go on, my gut tells me he went down TQ 13. We stop and  wait 15 minutes then 20. Oh boy. We decide he went on 83 we go 20km and another sled headed east stops us to ask if we have seen 2 of his group 6 left Parent now they are 4. We have seen no one. We ask if he has seen the blue Freeride, NHmoose even provides a photo of the wanted subject. Big No. Obviously he went down 13 with the other 2 missing. Well we spin around. Now I am fuming mad, this kid knows better. Back to Jct 13 on the way we find the other 2 missing from the other group. I tell them their buddy is 12 km that way waiting. We ask did you see this blue Freeride? Yes headed down 13. Just great. Arrive at Jct 13-83. Now question is did he come back and go back to Parent? Or is he still headed south on the 13. Like i said before this kid knows better but obviously that is out the window. Funtime is over, this is not how we roll...spending time looking for runaways. Team got no time for nonsense. We decide he is still headed south and hopefully will be at Fer a Cheval. Off we go on a beautiful TQ13 no wonder he kept going and going. Well we get as far as the bridge there not far from 83 and here he comes back across. I let his old man lay into him as it’s not my place and I really think he now understands what he did wrong. One... did not stop at intersection (he claimed was notan intersection but he don’t know) Two....he continues over 50km before thinking about us behind him. (He was sure was only one trail and claims did not want to waste gas coming back) this youngster got plenty to learn. All back together and now it’s 1:30pm. Well lets get to Clova. We burn it to Clova, Kwiknick has had his wings clipped, I am back in front and he is in the rocking chair with Snohorse behind followed by NHmoose he won’t get away Again. Into Clova at 3:05pm gas and a soda small break. Trail has been awesome. All good. 3:30 departure for Lac Faillon,

Hammer Down now this section is good but with just recently being opened has not been groomed as much and you can tell. Right side is soft wants to suck you right over into the bush. Some big ruts and just not as fine tuned but like I said has not been groomed that many times like the rest of 83 has been. Just before Balbazard is a open water hole. Across the whole trail.  Very dangerous not marked at all. More dangerous headed west as you arrive at speed. Headed east its just after a turn so you would see it better before. Trust me...bad spot. Just after Balbazard it starts freezing rain heavy. Instant frozen shields we are stopped cold. Never seen it that bad...go a bit then need a bare hand (glove from handwarmer on bar won’t do it.) remove ice go a bit and repeat 30 minutes like that. It was shaping up to bea long ride to Faillon. After 30 minutes then it changed to ice pellets. All good. Hammered it out and arrived at Lac Faillon at 5:50pm. Good time. Full house. Bunch of off trail guys staying doing day trips, and one gang from Ontario with yet another group of Quebeckers from Royaun Noranda we met earlier were missing their 2 riders. Happy to get inside. Had a great chat with Patrick the new owner here since November. Super nice guy. Good dinner and happy to be here finally.

    Snowing like crazy now.

    525km

326miles with the bonus miles searching for Kwiknick.

    Until next time.

No plan for tomorrow as to where. West yes.

    ice does suck

  7. First bought the app 2 seasons ago.  Last season I realized you had to buy it again every year.  I forget what was working that led me to reach out to support, but recall that it was support that told me I had to re-buy the app each year to get updates.  In preparation for my trip in a few weeks I opened the app and noticed that is says season 18-19 and that grooming delay data is present.  Does anybody know if you no longer need to buy the app every year?  Anyone else that has used the app for a few years notice this?  Thanks!

  8. Going to be riding from Val d'Or for 4 days next week.  I have only limited knowledge of the area (passed through there a few times on travel trips and spent 4 days there about 20 years ago).  When we spent 4 days doing day trips I only recall one of the loops (to Lac Faillon for lunch and back).  I am looking for suggestions for good day trips.  I have looked at the map and can easily make a loop based on mileage, but food and gas is the issue.  It's not easy to plan a loop with a lunch stop around noon - 1:00). So if anyone can suggest good places to have lunch anywhere from 75 to 125 miles from Val d'Or (150-250 total daily mileage) it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Robert

  9. Been there a few times but not in close to 10 years.  I recall reading something about not being able to wear your shoes/boots in the main lodge and wanted to see if anyone can clarify for me, so here are a specific question.

If you are staying in one of the cabins and have already cleaned up for dinner, can you wearing your sneakers from the cabin to the main lodge?

I've been thinking about this for some time and can't imagine, upon arrival, to have to take off my snowmobile boots and slip into slippers that many other sweaty feet have been in just to go to the front desk and get my room key.  Or, after showering (I know it's not a real shower) and putting on clean socks to have put on used slippers.

    Can anyone provide some detail?

    Thanks!

We took the Lapine road, (Pensive) out of Clova.  Dominic has not groomed it in some time for sure.  You can still run 65-75 easy, but chopped up a bit.  The last 20 miles to gas was plowed road but plenty of snow on it.  Getting gas we asked the trail to Gateneau, the lady said groomer broke but very nice.  Hum......  Full on snocross for 20 miles, (nice means something different in French?).  Gateneau said no more lunch or relay service, he only does the BB deal with room, breakfast and dinner, been that way for a few years.

The next 30 miles to Rebaska was pretty darn nice.

We ate lunch there and were back to the truck at 3:30 with 230 miles for the day.  505 for the (2) days.  Out of Rebaska was fabulous and groomed awesome all the way back to the truck. The last part of 63 on the RR bed was marked very clear 30KM and 60KM.  Police were out, be careful.  When riding in areas of very close houses and serious posted limited we try really hard to go slow as to not cause the local clubs and neighbors any grief, got to remember that you are not in the bush sometimes.

Tons of snow, snowing like mad, conditions up there are really nice.

Are you sure it was 30 miles from Gateneau to Rabaska?  I think it should only be about 10-15 at the most.  Thanks!

We leave Val-d'or Sunday feb 19th, if all goes to plan we should be in mont-Laurier region Thursday 23rd night and heading back to Val-d'or Friday the 24th. We were going to ride south to devils mountain in the morning then south to 13. Any lookouts you would recommend for that morning in around devils mountain area?

Fuse6 gave you two good points of interest.  The only other one I can think of is Chutes Ceasar, but it's about 5-10 miles out of your way (north of Rabaska).

Found this video but it's summer time.  There is always way more water flowing in the winter than what you see in this video.  Very powerful and noisy.

Lastly, the trail will cross an automobile bridge in Grand-Remous and there are nice falls/rapids below to look at.

  12. Good choice staying at Rabaska, food is good and owners are very nice and accommodating.  It's more rustic than Auberge Lac Taureau, but still a good place to stay.  When are you leaving?  As of today the trail across the Baskatong Reservoir is not open.   You can still do what you planned you just need to take local trails down to 13.  Rabaska to Val d'Or will be a long day.  It's been years since I did it but I only recall one gas stop through the park so do some research on this before you leave.  I ride out of Mont Laurier a lot, so I know that area, let me know if you any specific questions about that area.

Last week we compared my '14 Rene 800 etec with 3k miles to a '17 Rene 850 with 1500 miles and already a new water pump. Rode over 700 miles in 2 days.

Drag race on trail was dead nuts even for first 1000 feet than my 800 pulled slightly. Oil consumption was a lil better on the 850, nothing crazy. The etec got better gas mileage on just about every fill up, again nothing crazy. The new chassis has you sitting higher and a much narrower seat. Also approx 10 times colder (in fairness he did have stock x package windshield). The new chassis absolutely blew me away when it came to handling. Minor clicks were made on the new skis of the rear skid. I was constantly rolling my sled on the side to try and get it to handle in the ever changing conditions.

So all in all, I'm sure I will own one soon, not for power or fuel/oil consumption, but for the handling. Just need to try one with larger flaring before I pull the trigger.

Can anyone elaborate on what happened to Bill..?? Just met him Fri night.....what a great guy.

You said the etec got better gas mileage.  Which one, they are both etecs?
