Our first trip up North in Maine. We had the same problem with putting together a bag trip. So far our plan is :

2 nights at 5 Lakes lodge in Millinocket

1 night at Hewes Brook Lodge

1 night at The Inn at Acadia

    1 night at Homestead Lodge

    1 night 5 Lakes Lodge

Maybe this will help some. Any input is welcome.

Another choice in Millinocket is Twin pine camps at the NEOC.

Check out the Umcolcus sporting camps not far from the Homestead lodge. Jeff and his wife are great people!

Mont Apica ....75 miles + - south of Saguenay, (Hotel Delta) directly off trail # 23. The Mont Apica Relais with fuel & food is only a minute south of the turn off for the tower.  An easy 10 minute +  - climb from the turn off to the tower.

Is the Mont Apica Relais open daily , just wondering if we’d be able to get fuel down that way? Thanks

Traveled through the park on the 175 black trail on Monday, sadly not without incident. In the end, all is well.

Conditions are optimum out of the Delta.

Below are a few photos of my wife & daughter from the top of Mont Apica.

Those on the fence, trying to consider whether or not to jump should make the trek.

Where about is this lookout tower located? Definitely would like to check it out this February we missed it last season. Thanks

  5. We’ve been going to Quebec for the past four years for a week in February Riding in the  rivure du loupe and Lac ST Jean area and we were thinking about trying Ontario but it sounds like that area is more suited for saddle bag trips. We did the Gaspe once but we just prefer to stay in one area and do day trips. I just thought I would reach out and get some feedback on the Ontario area. Looking at their trails I kinda thought it was more of a saddle bagging area.

    Nope.

    48.4281 is Saguenay

    49.9132 is Chibougamau

so that plan isn't much good for snowmobiliers as very few trails are that far north.

You can get a seasonal plan that covers both north and south of the 51st parallel that would work. correct? 3 months for $50.00 Canadian.

  7. Can anyone tell me if the Saguenay-Lac St-Jean is considered south of the 51st parallel? Looking at doing this on Our trip this winter. Pretty good deal considering what it would cost if you had to use it. The temporary protection plan doesn’t cover South of the 51st parallel.

                                                    Thanks. Terry.

Not sure how far you would want to do in a day , but I was in NB last week for 3 days.. We had coffee at a place called Island Lake, they rent cottages and I think from there you could easily do a few different day trips..

Our loops are usually anywhere from 200-250 miles.

  9. I know that this is the QR site but was wondering if there are any areas in New Brunswick that are comparable to Saguenay or Rivière du loop as far as staying at one place and doing day trips? Can’t seem to find much information on it anywhere online so I figured I try here. I’ve done those two areas and there probably hard to beat, but was kinda wondering about NB areas as well. Thanks in advance.

    Hi York,

We ride both areas frequently and both are equal in quality.  You've been to RDL so I won't tell you about there.

The Saguenay area has a half a dozen lookouts around Mont Valin that are worth going to.  Mont Valin East is a place that is very busy on weekends and preferably a better ride during the week.  Mont Valin West, next door, is much quieter and just as good for trails.  150 - 250 miles a day is in the range of most riders.  Get out your map and day trips would include, 83 to Clermont, 23 to L'Etape, 93 to Mont Valin and La Chappelle, 83 and 93 for a tour du lac St Jean, 367 to Mont Vilain and many more.  You won't get bored.

Mid February is usually very good and you will always find riders from the States there.  The workers at the Delta are bi-lingual just like the Universal.  Gas station, SAQ, grocery store, drug store, Mike's, Subway, Tim Horton's are all within walking distance.

First time truck to Saguenay and ride out of the hotel.  The next year or trip, truck to St Raymond and then saddlebag to Saguenay and day trip and then saddlebag back to St Raymond.  Too many trails and not enough time! :good:

Yes I love reading your posts about your trips there always very informative and interesting I’ve learned so much about snowmobiling in Quebec just from that. Thanks for the information and I definitely will be digging out maps and plan some trips. When in RDL the loops we did were about 200-220 miles so the loops in this area sounds similar. Thanks again for the information! QR is a great site with awesome people willing to give great info to fellow riders!!

Was at the Delta all last week.   Met Bill on Saturday 3/3 and he was heading home after 2 months.  Decent conditions, but, getting in/out of town and for gas was a major pain. The ice trail over the river was not safe to cross, So had to take the bridges in Shipshaw, man they were rough. The Bras Louie trail off 93 near the ski slope was the best of the week.

We’d be going in the middle of February so maybe we wouldn’t have that problem, we don’t have the wheels on the skis so it definitely would be tough on the Skaggs! Other than that how’d you find it?

  12. For the past 3 years a buddy and myself have been going to RDL and riding. 1st year we did day trips out of the universal, 2nd year we did the gaspee loop, this year we did day trips again from the universal. We both love this area but we’ve decided we’d like to try a different area of Quebec. I’m always reading different posts on QR site but I don’t post very often. I guess that makes me a troll. lol! We think we’d like to try this area and do day trips. I keep seeing people mentioning the Delta hotel and was wondering if this would be a good place to ride out of? Does the trail go right from the hotel like the universal? If I read correctly there’s secured parking for sleds and truck and trailers. Appreciate any and all the advice I receive. Thanks!

  13. Just got home yesterday from spending a week at the universal hotel in riviera de loupe doing day trips, over 1,300 miles and I love that area. Last year we did the Gaspee leaving from the universal hotel and 2 years ago we also did day trips from the universal. Now for next season we’re thinking about exploring the Levi’s area and doing day trips from there. Just looking for advice on accommodations for the week, was checking out Hotel Berriners which looks nice and says you have trail access. Any advice on loops to do would be helpful to. I know it also has to do with the conditions also. I now next season is a long way away but it never hurts to plan ahead! Thanks in advance for any information.
