  1. I guess depending on the amount of rain and the base already down. Around here ( Tremblant area ) one of the clubs were saying on FB that we could actually do with a short mild spell and a bit of rain to harden the base. We have had only power snow, about 2 + feet worth, so the trails tend to get beat up quickly after the groomer passes.
  2. I think this one says it all!
  3. I have often thought that with a few mods and a good cleaning one of these would make an excellent incognito sled hauler. What low life is going to risk jail time for a truck load of used beer and burritos?
  4. I doubt it is a Canada Post issue, if it were then it would be an isolated incident not "a number of people and that they are aware of it". The question also comes up, if you are using an expired temp pass as per what you were told, do you really have any insurance coverage from intact?
  5. Stay warm JG. Don't know what it is like there but over here it is well below zero and clouds of blowing snow coming off the lake with the strong winds.
  6. Don't think so. One near Mont Laurier at Devils Mountain is Chute de Windigo. It was closed a season or two ago, not sure of it's status now though.
  7. Well I got a story to tell but I will skip a lot of the details. The moral of it is: Don't take anyone's word that anything on your trailer is done correctly when loading, check your self. We loaded my disabled sled onto my trailer by hand with the help of some guys I did not know. As we got it on and the bed tilted back down, one of the guys said I got the pin, and picked it out of the back of my pick up where I had put it. Never gave it another thought, and was busy clamping down and covering the sled. Off I drove and cruising down the highway the truck felt like it was being pushed around by wind, looked in my rear view mirror just in time to see the trailer swerve, try to pass the truck as I slowed them do a series of rolls first flat on the sled second ejected the sled in the middle of the highway and the third sent the empty trailer into the bush. The draw bar was still attached to the truck! We determined the pin had never been put in properly which was quickly lost and allowed the the tilt mechanism to twist back and forth till it snapped. $3000 damage to the sled and $800 to the trailer. Thank god there were no cars anywhere around when it happened. Not that it gets much use, but I inspect my trailer each fall and as I said NEVER assume someone trying to be helpful has done something correctly.
  8. That is darn near rusted through on one side, better to find that the way you did than towing down a highway.
  9. Yeah I wouldn't trust anyone with that kind of tool, especially ME!😜
  10. From the Diable et Rouge FB page.
  11. Does that exist for the general public?
  12. -31c this morning or -23.8 F
  13. Club Diable et Rouge announced this morning that two surfaces were out packing their trails today, I would assume no drag yet. They did also comment early season conditions be careful. No word on the ice crossings that connects a lot of their trail network, but if it is anything like my like I would stay off for a bit yet. Dispite an early freeze and cold temps the ice in my bay was only about 4 inches thick last week. Several small snow storms on thin ice have pushed the ice down to make slushy conditions and the snow also insulates the the ice from the cold making it slow to thicken up.

    Well it is a start

Diable et Rouge club announced yesterday they will start grooming between Christmas and NewYears if we get the expected snow. Well we got 5-6 inches on top of the 6 inches or so already on the ground, so it should be a go around here soon. No word on the ice though. Cold days and nights coming all this week so it should be safe fairly soon.
  15. Merry Christmas, have a safe and happy holiday. A good 8-10 inch dumping in Vaudreuil were we are visiting for Christmas. Hope up North got similar when we get back.
  16. I don't know how that would be worked out, though I guess there could be a formula. I imagine not each club has the same overhead etc due to length of their season, frequency of grooming due to volume of traffic, distance they cover and much more I am not aware of. Since we are talking passes, one thing I always thought and may have mentioned in the past here is, wouldn't it be great if you could pay a premium and have a pass that covered more than one Provence for riders that live or ride close to another Province. Or registering the rider pass wise not not the sled so guys with multiple sleds could choose what sled they wanted to ride on a particular day if they have multiple sleds. You can only ride one at a time anyway.
  17. I like the Marauders on trail hotdog cook out day, stopped several times.👍🏻
  18. That is what I mean, what that club did next was un acceptable.
  19. Maybe there should be a complete overhaul of how passes are sold. The on line method and indicating which club you want to support on your application is a start but then they charge an extra $5 for this so people will still want to buy at a store, outlet etc to save a buck and then there is the convenience issue selling in stores if folks need a pass without delay.
  20. That is only half the story JG. http://clubmotoneigehiboublanc.com/english/club-lynx-trail-closed-tq3-north-to-gorelac-beattie-20172018-season My take is, It would seem Hebo sells passes anywhere an establishment is willing to do so for them. Reading between the lines I guess the passes in question were sold at an establishment within the Lynx club territory. No law against this I am assuming but not really that great if a person thought they were buying to support Lynx. That is probably what ticked them off, but their actions afterward were not appropriate. These clubs need to sit down and figure out how to play nice in the sandbox together, if at all possible at this point.
  21. Over the years I have put them on the left side of the cab in a very visible location. Most times I just get waved through a check point or when I meet a patrol guy on the trail with out a real stop. Last two years I put them on a little less visible part of my windshield because the bumpy satin finish of my cab was less than great for sticking. May be coincidental but I have been stopped twice for a more formal stop because they could not see the trail pass at first glance.
  22. Yup, the shape of sleds cabs and windshields that do little on the sleds these days coupled with getting older makes you feel the cold more. My Yamaha even with a decent windshield is way colder to ride than my old early 2000's Polaris sleds.
  23. Have you checked out sled brand clothing lately? I have had a number of non snowmobile branded jackets over the the last 10 years and was mostly satisfied but I bought New Yamaha branded clothing 2 years ago and I am surprised how well it is made and how warm it is. I was always of the impression they just looked pretty and were over priced. The dealer was ready to bargain and buying new suits for both me and the wife he knocked off a fair bit. Also another thought comes to mind, heated vest.
  24. I remember the days of them dumping all that trucked away snow in the St Lawrence river in the Montreal area. Last number of years they make massive mountains in snow dump lots that take all summer to melt.
  25. No more gas anywhere close Grumpy. We lost Weir and Huberdeau gas last fall. 16, Hotel Chaser in Pine hill, Vendee, St Jovite, Labelle, Duhamel all have gas and are all an easy distance to to top up on the way through to some place else. These days I buy extra gas in Hawksbury when I am down that way with the truck and try to keep 10-15 gallons on hand here for sleds and tractors.
