I am coming up on a Sunday, March 8th. I 87 NewYork for the crossing, and it will be about 10 am. I am coming from SE PA. Bill, thanks for responding to my post. I am looking to ride with you sometime that week if at all possible.

Never used a Debit card in Canada only a credit card. Do you get charged the foreign transaction fee on a debit card?

This is going to be my 1st time staying at the HI, there web site says they exchange currency. Is there rate comparable to the duty free? If so I will keep on going instead of stopping at the border.

Good news!! Cast is off, she is going to therapy! She said that she wants to ride Mont. Valins again. So it looks like I will be going to the HI! We will be leaving on March 8th. First time we will be staying there, we hope to meet the famous Saguenay Bill. See you then!!

Exactly!! And how do you get a quebec trail permit without showing your registration??? I have always been asked to see my PA registration to get a QUEBEC TRAIL PERMIT! ALWAYS!

Finally a report from this area. I had to go to another site to get trail reports.

If you can safely signal then do it, if you cannot then keep both hands on the bars and steer right. I signal when I can, when I am in a dangerous situation sharp corner ect. I keep my hands on the bars. My wife never signals, she does not feel safe passing with one hand. i am always prepared for a number of sleds following the first one weather I get a hand signal or not.

I think I will just wing it! I will keep looking at posts for different regions & go where ever it sounds best at that time. I may now be able to go one week earlier.

I only get to come north 1 or 2 times per year. My riding partner (wife) has broken her wrist. I have reservations @ the HI in Jonquier. Which I now need to cancell. My question is, how are the trail conditions up there on a typical year in mid March? I am looking at going somplace the week of March 16. Due to her wrist and work obligations I cannot get up there any earlier. I am up in the air about staying there or going to Le Cabanon. Will most places still be open? Or do I have to worry about gas due to places being closed. Will I still be able to ride out of the hotel? Of course if it is an extremely warm march that will answer all my questions, but @ this point I would like to make plans.

I would like to thank everyone on this post for helping to make my first trip to Saguenay almost perfect. most trails were a 10 of 10. Mont Valins may be some of the best trails that I have ever ridden. I did not ride as many miles as I anticipated due to the number of stops and pictures. My first day we spent riding around the eastern half of Lac St Jean. The next two days were spent on Mont Valins, as my camera did not work and I had to go back a second day for pics. Never been anywere that the local trails were so smooth and fast. Sorry Bill I wanted to stop at the HI to meet you and I never got there.

Thanks for the info, they told us when we called them they had trail access. the place looked really nice and my wife does ride with me. once we see the area for the first time we can decide the best place for us to stay next time.

I will be coming to the area for the first time on Tuesday, Everbody on this forum seems to stay at the HI, before i found this site I booked a room at the Hotel Sagueneenee. Is this a good place to stay? It looks to be only a couple of miles down the road from the HI.

DONE!!!!! I will be riding Mont Valins for the first time next week!

My verizon worked well in Val d'or as well as in Saint-mechel, I do not know about saguenay I will be going there soon, for the first time.

Thanks for the warning! I have been watching for the warm-up. I will wait till the last minute to cancel. If I cancel I cannot go up till the week of the 21st. I hate to do that I am really itching to ride.
