What is nice about the gloves is they are not bulky so easy to use with gauntlets
  2. Invest in some heated gloves that plug right into the sled. My wife has them from first gear they work well actually have a controller to adj the heat. She has them a few years and last year she got the heated jacket/pants which are more of a mid layer
  3. Need help guys, coming up on Sunday to drop in Baie Saint Paul and 2 in our group need to pick up passes. This will be their only trip up this year so they are looking for a 7 day pass my problem is last year when we stayed at Hotel Baie SP they did not sell passes. Looking for an easy spot to stop on the way up to get passes on a Sunday. Coming up 87 to 15 then 20 to 40 to 138 any place along the route hotels or otherwise we could stop for a pass? Thanks
  4. Universal in Riviere du Loup is your best bet
  5. Amen Iceman,Sacacomie can kiss my a$$ they turn their nose up at snowmobilers and make you walk a quarter mile for no reason
  6. Seriously though there are many good areas. You mentioned you did not want to go to Le Cabanon but if you you do this area during the week you will have no problems. Are you looking to stay in same hotel every night or saddlebag it? Western Quebec has some of the best riding and probably closest to you. you could leave from Temiscaming and do a nice loop up the Western border toward Lasarre go through Amos, Val D'Or down through Kicistak (spelling) to 63 and back west. If you wanted to stay in one spot you could do Val D'Or. Mont Laurier honestly is nothing compared to this area and the traffic there is on par with St. Zenon
  7. Miles Long, keep us up to date on this trip sounds interesting
  8. Looks good Alain! Hope the warm up this week doesn't affect the trails too much and hope for little rain
  9. There is no question Kanawata every time
  10. yes if you have the SD card instead of the downloads the card will have to stay in
  11. Yes Chris Wright, that is the post I was talking about I was the the guy talking back and forth with him. Ice fisherman and other guys collecting Moose sheds use those logging roads so I would make sure you either have a GPS track or study the road map before you go because I doubt there will be trail signs to any extent. If you have the GPS trailmasters maps for Maine the old trail is on there. There used to be a video online where a TV station from Bangor went to Estcourt and did a story on it but I can't seem to find it. Here is a link to another article https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjii-a-m6bRAhWl5YMKHYgNCV4QFggmMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.atlasobscura.com%2Farticles%2Fthe-incredible-complications-of-living-atop-the-us-canada-border&usg=AFQjCNFcDsCVNklLapxNn78q0EaL-fOrdQ&bvm=bv.142059868,d.amc
  12. I had seen and talked to a guy on the Northern Maine Snowmobiling facebook page back on Dec. 20th. He is the trailmaster for the Allagash Snowmobile Club and says he groomed it last year with his Skandic and plans to do the same this year until he can talk the club into grooming it. Just an FYI when you cross from Quebec you will leave the lake just behind the Villa Des Frontieres then through their property across road and under the RR tracks there will be no signs. The Canadian Customs will be straight ahead the house with the plaque on that the International Boundry is on is to the left of that (That's my profile pic) If you make a left at the Canadian Customs and go to the end of the road you will see a Granite monument which is the Northernmost point in Maine. You don't have to stop at the Canadian customs because you are already in Canada but you will go past it and continue maybe a half mile up the road to the US customs. A word of warning when you come off the Lake under the RR tracks and make the right to head to US customs you will see a gas station on the left DO NOT go into the gas station without going to the US customs because the Gas is in the US. There have been issues there in the past after especially after 911 when a Quebec citizen entered the gas station illegally and was imprisoned. It evidently escalated to the point where Colin Powell had to make a trip up there to smooth things out. Also not sure how things will be early in the winter as that is still logging season and all the roads in the Allagash where the snowmobile trail runs on are private and maintained by the logging companies so some could be plowed
  13. wng-2, since you said you are waiting for the maps I assume you are getting the micro SD cards and not the downloadable maps. They are very easy to use and plug and play, I don't even turn anything off. Not sure if you are riding into Quebec with the sleds but if you are driving your truck and using the same GPS you will see trails pop up along the road and at road crossings on your way up, the Trans Quebec will be Blue,Regional Green, Orange for local and there will be a little icon showing the trail number. I had the same concerns the first year I got mine but it really is just plug and play
  14. Wow why would anyone go out on ice that wasn't even there the day before?
  15. Do you have the slot for a micro SD card? It should be under the battery if so it should work but just call Trakmaps they are very helpful. Last year I left for Quebec without my card and I called them they went over and above by sending me the download version for free
  16. The signage in my opinion is not as good as it used to be for whatever reason possibly because most people are using GPS. I use a Nuvi 550 but the Zumo is probably even better. I recommend Trakmaps they have worked well for me and you can either download the maps or they will send you a micro SD card which your unit should have a slot for
  17. Doesn' matter to me as I won't be at the gathering but I don't think there are enough extra rooms in Chibougamau for a gathering. Even if you guys book it early aal you will accomplish is to Jimmy up all the rooms for some unsuspecting group in the middle of a saddlebag trip. JMO
  18. Nordic is the place to stay in Chibougamau, they have a heated garage for the sleds. The first time I stayed in Chibougamau was at the Hotel Chib. We couldn't find the trail didn't know it was in the alley so we rode right down main street.Half hour after we arrived so did the police, they told us to stay off the street and they would give us an escourt out of town in the morning. That must have been a Friday or Saturday because we ended up taking a taxi to some barn outside of town where there was a heck of a party going on there evidently was some big snowmobile race there the next day. The next morning we are all ready to roll at 7:30 that was the time we told the police we would be ready to roll. They didn't show up so we rolled without them that had to be mid 1990's
  19. We went with the Mobal, everything was spelled out on the website and it worked well although we didn't end up using the phone at all. The directions for use were easy to follow everything came in a carrying case with an extra battery and when I got home I just had to drop it at a Fed EX drop off site and the shipping was included
  20. That is for sure Trailblazer, I am blessed
