Snowmobile season saved at Gaspé

The weather in December caused extensive damage to the snowmobile trails running through the territory of Gaspé. Bridges and culverts were washed away by water and almost all of the trails have been affected.

Repairs to these trails, however, will save the season. Just before Christmas, President of the Snowmobile Club of Greater Good friends Gaspé Steeve Curadeau, received a phone call, but above all a gift. At the end of the wire, the regional conference of elected officials who offered their financial support. The amount that has not been set should cover about half the repair costs estimated at less than $ 10 000.

These works are only temporary. The club was content to filling to ensure the smooth running of the current season. However, work must be resumed once the snow melts.

Club president Les Bons snowmobile buddies Grand Gaspé Steeve Curadeau, describes the trail conditions: "It cut across several locations. Everywhere in the city of Gaspé up Douglastown, the entire territory of the club was attacked. "

The longest to repair the bridges will certainly since they both require a little planning, but also construction.

These works will cost much more than temporary repairs. In comparison, the cost of repair after the floods of 2007 had exceeded $ 100 000 in 5 snowmobile clubs. A question now is who will pay. The Club also claims that the Ministry of Transport of Quebec still owes him money in connection with the work of the flood of 2007.

"It has not been given yet. It is 5 clubs like that. In other words, there is a shortfall of $ 20 000 for the Snowmobile Club. It is valuable, but what is back there, it has to be paid for. There is, then someone is going to have to take money out of his pockets, "says Steve Curadeau.

Even if the hopes, the President of the Club really does not expect to receive money from the MTQ for future work, especially since he is still waiting for that $ 20 000.
