  1. Ran out of snow last week while running down the 595 to get lunch & gas at La Cache. Lucky for us there was a logging camp about 8 km north of La Cache just about where we ran out of snow. It is just east of a bridge. They sold us gas and a meal that I could not finish (and I was hungry). The lady that helped us out told us they have up to 10 beds they keep for sledders if they need a place to stay. Looks like a great place to stay and very reasonably priced. Home cooked meals fit for a lumber Jack! I wrote the phone # down and would be glad to share it to anyone that is interested. The place was very clean and the buildings (trailers) were modern and in good shape.
  2. A few more.... #8 trail from Ralais Chic Choc down to the 595 had spectacular scenery trails were hard as concrete before the sun warmed them up. Trail side mod to keep the sleds running cool
  3. A few pictures from our March 14th trip three days of clear skys and sunshine. The TQ5 was awsome.
  4. Just home from a 4 day trip to Gaspe. Conditions were excellent to terrible depending on where we were. The No. 5 from Matane and east was excellent. Getting into towns for gas and accomodations was scratchy and Matane was mostly bare ground last evening. Despite what some locals told us we ran out of snow trying to get into La Cache on the 595. Thank heavens for the nice lady that sold us gas and an incredible home cooked meal at the logging camp just outside of La Cache. Temps were very warm up to 10 deg C and the snow cover is deminishing fast. The locals were telling us this was a very odd winter for the Gaspe region. We still enjoyed over 800 Kms of aswome riding. Thanks to Groomer for arranging our passess and meeting with us in Albertville for a short chat. I will post some pictures in a day or two. Alan
  5. That would be very much appreciated. Not sure where RDL is, we will likely leave from Point au la Croix. If you want to forward me your cell I will give you a call on the 12th. my email is aburgher@msn.com Thanks Alan
  6. We are planning a trip for March 12th an would like to spend 3 days on the trails in Gaspe. I have been there several time previous but this year it looks like snow cover may be an issue. Can anyone comment on conditions or make recommendations where to go or stay clear of? Thanks in advance. Alan
  7. Happy Birthday Bill. Hope you have a good summer and perhaps I will get to see you next winter. Alan
  8. Sounds like you have found a home away from home! What a great way to sled in Gaspe. Anytime you can spend time with the locals and share good talk and home cooked food beats the heck out of any Hotel. The first trip I made to Gaspe (I think it was winter 2000) we ended up in a bad snow storm on the St. Lawrence side and really did not know where we were going. Ended up in Reviere-Madeleine and the only hotel in town was full (I think it has 2 or 3 rooms). We knew there was still fire in the woodstove and a couple couches in the club house about 10 miles back but we here cold, hungry, and tired. We decided to stay for supper and while we were enjoying a great meal the hotel owner made a couple phone calls and found a home in town with a couple spare beds. They took 2 strangers in for the night, offered us to use the shower and telephone. Wonderfull people in the Gaspe. Always eager to help and very friendly. One of my favorite places to sled.
  9. Have a good trip Steve! Wish I could join you. Al
  10. Nice Pics Steve! I am jealous.... wish I was there. You need to get a new coat to match the sled :D Anymore trips planned?
  11. Any further development on the case of the "scumbags" that torched Crazy Als Place?
  12. That is one fancy sled lift! Yes they sure got me out of a fix that Sunday morning. They actually fabricated me a part as we could not buy it anywhere on a Sunday. We could not speak a word of French and visa versa. Made for an interesting experience. Again great people! Thats why I keep returning. (and of course the best trails/conditions, probably in the world)
