  1. Fredsled I have to respond. I wasn't speaking to any one group. I was just talking about the trail misuse I have noticed in the last few years. I happen to be the one who is always last in line and happens to see any danger our group does to the trail and I let everyone know how I feel. As for education for the group what I meant I believe if you invite a friend to go with you that person should be informed before you leave home on proper riding. To me the trails our the most important thing and leaving them as good as possible for the next person. I know and I'm sure you know people that you would never invite to quebec because of their back yard riding style. As for slower riders I won't go there because everyone has his or her safe riding speed they go and I respect that.
  2. I agree with what you said. I seem to notice the piles of snow in the trails where people take off. What bothers me is that the groomer operators work so hard and to have people disrespect the trails by having to tear them up at every stop. We drive many hours to ride trails that are normally in perfect shape and now there is times when it reminds me of Hill I won't mention. Maybe the problem is we as quebec snowmobiler's have told to many people of the Paradise we have found. Maybe we should choose the riders we bring to Quebec be better educated on how to ride.
  3. We have decided to put a GPS system on one of our sleds next year. Question is what garmin model will do the job. I've read the 500 or 550 model work well but I don't seem to be able to find much information on the models. Are there better models available. Also mounding to the sled is important. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
  4. I agree with ice. Special things should be kept between friends. Lol
  5. I have a family person who works for a Yamaha dealer and according to him last fall Yamaha told them last fall early this was going to happen. I think they even gave them a chance to cancel their orders. At least I seen no new snowmobile boxes there this year. They still have outboard motors and atv"s in their yard . Kinda scary with Artic Cat being bought out by a company that almost ended Polaris years ago and Yamaha going. Only two sled builders look out for the price to go out of site. This is my opinion.
  6. My son and I just got back from doing the loop and couple weeks ago. We stayed in Rimouski next to last night of our ride. Going around clock wise our mileage was from Rimouski to Grande Vallee was 240 miles. Nice little hotel motel on the water. From Grande Vallee to Perce was 214 miles. Lots of sites to see. We did make a short trip in to Gaspe just to say we were there. The rock in Perce is amazing. We did find about 15 miles of rough trail between Gaspe and Perce. No big deal. Perce to New Richmond was 142 miles. Lots of deer. New Richmond to Amqui 210 miles. We took rt5 to L ALaverne to a orange trail and went north to 5 and then South to 587. If you look at a map you will understand. On 587 catch the first orange trail that goes through Mann Settlement back to 587. The 587 trail is special in my opinion. Mountains and valleys but still pretty fast. Then it would be easy day back to Rimouski. The whole peninsula is special. We been there three times and each time was better than the other. There was only 2 of us and we did ride from 8 30 or 9 to 5 to 6 o'clock. March will be a lot more daylight for you. All I can say is it is great. I always remember meeting another rider years ago and he told me that Gaspe is as close to being in heaven as it gets. Hope all this helps. Be safe.
  7. Hi all. I'm sitting in a condo in Vail watching skiers zipping down the mountain. I was close enough to the lifts yesterday to see that it looks like a young persons sport. First I helped my wife who has been sking all her life put on her boots. That is hard work alone. Next a short drive with the family to the slopes. Have to park and walk to the lifts. Boots are hard to walk in plus you have to carry ski's and pole. I being a good hubby walked her to the slopes and did the carrying. Now when they say it's hard to breathe in the mountains; they weren't lying. Now to find your car in a parking garage that you thought was on level 1 And really it was level 3. Lots of walking and not a lot of air. All and all great fun with the family. Next year we are going to quebec for a snowmobile ride. Where the air is plentiful and every step isn't uphill. Lol. Having a great time. Just another adventure.
  8. Please post the overheating problem. I'm going to replace my 2015 800 with a 850 next year and I would like to know what I'm in for. I would think the problem will be resolved by next year.. I hope
  9. Just something to think about. I was in Amqui Fri night and spoke to a group that crossed the river from Matane to the 3 trail. He said the trail isn't or I should say wasn't groomed and they went 60 miles and turned around. It took them 5 hours to do the 60 miles. Now that was last week. May be call the clubs to get a trail report. He said lots of snow. There was 9in there group.
  10. Thank you. Very interesting. Maybe the states need to look at something like that. That way the small farmers would be represented
  11. Well this js good news. We are in new richmond tonight and all day were wondering if possibly we might get stuck on the Peninsula. Of course we did think it probably wasn't a bad place to get stuck. Now I was just wondering when they say the farmers of Quebec are they talking about cattle related farmers as well as the maple syrup industry. It seems I have only heard of the syrup industry . Just a question. Would like to know who the union represents. I agree they had to defend them selves and I am happy for them it worked out.
  12. I don't want anyone to think I started this conversation to call anyone a thief. If you think of the numbers of signs compared to snowmobiles the snowmobiles out weight the signs. The veterans of quebec snowmobiling know the trails and really don't depend on the signs in my opinion. I think it's the new riders that come to quebec that have the problems. At least I do on new trails. Everything I said is just ideas and I'm sure there are better one out there. Be safe everyone. Got to go. On my way to quebec.
  13. All and all 110 Canadian is like 75 American is a whole lot better than having to buy year's pass for a couple days of riding. I have to agree the language thing is something you have to accept and have faith you will be treated properly. I did have an experience once where I took my mirrors off due to a short windshield and they were deflecting the air on to my hands . Of course it was 20 below and the officer could speck very good English. He agreed and told me to put back on when it got warmer. That was my experience. Still the best trails in the world in my opinion.
  14. I know this happens and really don't understand why people steal or acquire trail signs. It just seem that every year there is less signage and the posts are still there. Anyway an idea that might work is if the clubs were to have some plastic inexpensive signs made up that look the same and size made and sell them in there club houses at a much larger price. I'm thinking something that cost 2 dollar and sell for 10. The profit could then be used to buy the regular signs that are put out on the trails. They could also offer them when the trail passes are purchased. Personally I like signs. Just a thought.
  15. As for the mid season trail pass I didn't think so either but it would be nice,
  16. No No you don't go sking just before a snowmobile trip in Quebec or try to play pond Hockey. No that won't happen.
  17. I didn't realize there was mid season rates. Not that it matters to us due to buying early passes. But I do take friends in March who would buy mid season passes instead of weekly so they can come back.
  18. I got a email from a club president from western Quebec and he said the government representative agreed to start a conversation last night. He thought that was good news,
  19. Problem I see is one farmer could shut down miles of trails. I would like to know if it is about 110 dollars or even a thousand per farmer. If it is 110 then the union is looking for something not worth fighting over. Even it was a 1000 the and there were 300 farms that's not a lot for the government to take a chance on losing the revenue from snowmobiling and the four wheeler's. What I do see is Ontario smiling because people are going where the snow is and they do have nice trails there. Personally I don't get why this is happening right now, Maybe there is some government officials that need to be spoken to, I hope it's not just a power struggle between two people in government. I want to go ride my sled.
  20. I took a new rider to Quebec last week and I think what bothered him was the long rides being in the bush with no houses and seeing no other people. He kept telling his wife at night how you only see trees and the trail. Also the signage or the lack of. He couldn't understand that if there is a lot of sled tracks that you are in the right place. What i'm saying is let your crew know that you are going to be in Gods country a lot of the time and riding 25 or more miles with out stopping is not un normal. If they are all snowmobile riders you will most likely be making plans for the next trip before you get back to the truck to go home. Have fun and don't let anything bother you and all will be great,
  21. If the valve stayed open i would think the piston would hit it and the computer would shut it down quickly with the knock sensor alert. Only my opinion.
  22. Well 270 miles and I feel great. No leg or hip soreness. First time in years I can swing my leg over the seat. Leaving in a week or so for gaspe for how ever it takes to get around the point. Snowmobiling is so much fun. Good luck with the hip replacement.
  23. I did that hip replacement last March. I feel so much better. I was back to work in may and laying Concrete blocks in July. Practiced riding skills on a skid steer and a excavator. I do a lot of stretching just laying in bed at night. I did have someone for support because of fear of the unknown. I leaving tomorrow for my first ride of season and I think it will be easier than any of the last few years. I guess what I am saying is there definitely riding a snowmobile after hip replacement. Get a good doctor and I sure we'll hear from you next year.
  24. Oh yes . It always amazed me how good for the eyes the bar tenders were. It is really a amazing place to stay. One owner the wife ran the place in the winter and her husband ran it in the summer. I think they were from France. Really nice hosts.
