Thanks Tom. This looks a lot better than Christmas.

Thanks Mark. The groomers have been out and the forecast is below freezing all week. A few cm of snow is forecast for tonight. The grooming map shows two areas that aren't reporting. One going down 85 toward Degelis and the other towards St Pamphile. I can't imagine the two railbeds not being groomed. Maybe the beacons were turned off in the groomers. Sandi and I will be the boots on the ground or should I say the tracks on the trails! 😁 We will report back tonight. Jack & Sandi

Hi Oilman, It looks like you will have a good ride. The groomers have been out. Jack & Sandi

We are back from supper. You can't charge the meal to the room. Bring your credit card so you don't have to walk all the way back to your room. Jack

Hi Everyone, Quick update here. Like I said above, there is snow. From when we crossed the border, thru the Eastern Townships and all the way to RDL, there is snow on the ground. It may have been a little deeper around Levis than here at RDL. The trails we could see from auto route 20 looked passable and most were groomed. There is a foot or so here at the Universal and the snow depth map shows more depth in the mountains. There is only one other trailer in the lock up besides ours. The restaurant is under renovation but you may eat at the bar. Sandi and I are going there shortly for a nice meal. That sandwich on the ride up is long gone and I have to replenish the cavern. We will report back. Jack & Sandi http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2023_01/IMG_0573.thumb.JPG.2ec64261f2bfee7e99600aca68fd17f1.JPG

Hi BigLake, Sandi and I just pulled in to the Universal tonight. The conditions look good and the front desk said the riding is good. It isn't as deep as it normally is mid January but the map shows groomers were out last night. We're going to ride tomorrow. We will be at breakfast Tuesday morning around 7 am. Look for an "older couple". I have a grey beard and speak English! 😁 Jack & Sandi

Maybe Mike was the winner. That's why he isn't going to RDL. Mike is flying to Germany to snowmobile and drink beer there. Jack & Sandi

Welcome to QR Skioutty. I see this is your first post. During the day a red flag or cloth is what is required if I remember correctly. At night a red light maybe required but I have never seen anyone do that in all my years snowmobiling. Jack & Sandi

So good to hear Stephen. The snow is late but hopefully it will stay now that it has started. Jack & Sandi

We are heading to RDL tomorrow. We won't be able to ride until Monday but hopefully we will be able to report back with good news. Jack & Sandi

I hope you are correct Iceman. We are itching to get out there on the trail. Jack & Sandi

I'm hoping it is good. They are predicting a good dump of snow so it may be worth the trip. We will decide tomorrow. The free weekend is the 14th and 15th. If we go, we will drive up the 15th so we will miss the free weekend but may see the aftermath. Christmas to New Years was warm. The forecast for RDL is below freezing every day so that is a step up in itself. Jack & Sandi

We are not in RDL at this moment. Sandi and I have reservations at the Universal starting Sunday night January 15th. We haven't decided on whether we are going or if we are going to cancel. There isn't much snow on the ground currently but there has been limited grooming going on. A few trails are showing yellow and green but many are still red. The forecast is for 30 cm of snow tomorrow and then below freezing temperatures for the next 10 days. We are going to make a few phone calls Saturday and make our decision. Jack & Sandi

Thank you. We have reservations at Riviere du Loup for next week but I'm not sure how the conditions will be. Same thing there with the forecast, a few inches coming. Jack & Sandi

Hi Jean-Guy, As always your pics are incredible. We really enjoy looking at them. Are the conditions getting any better out there? Anything good in the forecast? Thanks, Jack & Sandi

Christmas to New Year wasn't good. It was rideable on Mont Valin but rough with all the traffic. Then the temps were getting above freezing and rain. Looking at the FCMQ map today shows better conditions on Mount Valin and down 83 towards L'Anse St Jean. L'Etape looks doable too. South and north of Lac St Jean looks thin. Jack & Sandi

Conditions aren't promising right now. The temps are OK but not much for snow in the forecast. All we can do is wait and see. Jack & Sandi

Hi Andy. You should have good ground cover this time of year and not green. Mr Gutz. I don't believe in products like "Car Shield " but maybe?

We are back in CT. The drove home yesterday was depressing. Rain, drizzle, fog and anything else that was not winter like. We watched the temperature rise all the way back. Not only is it green here in CT, the forecast is to be in the 50's F and may even hit 60 F this week. Please let in change back to winter for our trip to RDL. Jack & Sandi

Good morning. We are making the hard decision. Looking at the different weather forecasts isn't promising. It is 40F right now at the Sagueneenne at 6 am. Two of the forecasts show intermittent rain over the next few days. The best forecast shows not much rain but temps getting near or above freezing each day. I can't see much grooming going on with it being mild and the Holiday. The mountain being the only place to ride is going to get rough. Sandi and I have decided to pack up and head back to CT. In a couple of weeks we will be heading to RDL and hopefully better conditions. Jack & Sandi

Oh no. How can this be? Four engines in one year! It is hard to believe. The good side is you were close to home. Jack & Sandi

Thank you Mark for the info. I know I had my license updated many years ago and at that time it was called a Real ID. I didn't know what the difference was between the two terms. Jack
-
I'm a little late to this post. A couple of years ago I couldn't find my passport. I must have put it in a safe place so I wouldn't lose it. 😁 CT has had the Enhanced License for quite some time. Sometimes called a Real ID. I crossed into Quebec and then back into the States on Rt 91. The only question I couldn't answer was from the USA side when the agent asked me what was I wearing in my passport photo? I don't know. I'm guessing he was looking at my photo or he could have been pulling my leg. Bottom line is the Enhanced License allowed me to cross both ways. Sandi did find my passport while I was gone. Update on restaurant / renovations: We have reservations at Universal RDL in a couple of weeks. I called and they said that renovations are going on but the restaurant is open during the renovations. Jack & Sandi
