schooter
I have been using the FCMQ interactive trail map to investigate some possible saddlebag trips. An item that I have not been able to find using this system are refueling locations. I have down loaded the trail map information into Google Earth as an overlay, but with that I loose the ability to tally the miles. Does anyone know if I am just missing something on the FCMQ map system or a better tool for planning. maybe there is a recommended download to a GPS system that would be better Thax SCHOOTER
doobraap
The best resource I ave found is the regional paper maps. Unfortunatly each one comes from a seperate place. If you ask on here I am sure we can help too.... Where are you going?
schooter
Looking at the Saguenay area, leave from HI Jonquiere to Casino Charlevoix and stay in Tadoussac, maybe up route 3 day two, but look like a total back track to get back to HI vi Mt Valin area. doobraap
You can cross the river in tadousacc and ride up through Valin (TQ93) on the way back. No back tracking if you stay west of the river on the way down. Real nice ride that way. Gas in Sacre Coure and La Chappell(cash only I hear) up in Mt Valin. The Saguenay Map has all the gas stops. Are you looking to trailer all the way to the HI?

schooter
Thank you for the GPS recommendation. and Yes we are planning on trailering to the HI. Still not sure why the interactive map does not show gas stations, I think it would be a benifit when planning a trip. One of the trial maps I did get was from Manicouagan area. The paper map show a trail (Chapelle snowmobile trail) connecting from RT 3 to Rt 93 ~ 122 km per the paper map. Does not look like there is any fuel so fuel up in Sacre-Coeur and then not to some place along rt 93 in Mt Valin ? (169 km) The interactive map indicates that they are not connected, So maybe Paper is better?
actionjack
The interactive trail map doesn't show up for me on my browser anyway. I know it costs money but installing that GPSQC trail package is an excellent resource for trip planning. Not all gaz stations are included but many are. Best of all, while you are planning on your computer, you can choose a starting and stopping point and it auto routes and calculates the distance VIA THE TRAILS. I do still use the paper maps which have somewhat more detail for lodging gaz and other services, then confirm mileage and/or detail my plans using the software to make sure everyone who is with me gets gas within their sleds range. I think the other trail you are talking about is the Pelchat trail. It cuts over from 3 to 93. I believe it starts in Les Escoumins. Ends up near the Chappell. No services on the trail at all. Nothing. quite remote. Nice trail though. There is gas at both ends. (Chappell, Les Escoumins)
