Winter Grand Gathering

The just concluded Franconia Gathering hosted by Saguenay Bill had some of the attendees talking about the possibility of actually holding the next "Gathering", of at all places, somewhere in Quebec in the snow!!! Wow.

Riche ("Back") was so taken by the idea that he contacted the new owners at 100 Lakes regarding the possibility of holding the event at Pourvoirie Cent Lacs. Richie and I had stopped by many times in past years, but our mid-winter last year stop found us most impressed with the job the new administration is doing. We got one of the last chalets available when we blew in as they were hosting a group of 30 French riders at the time.

"Back" confirmed the dates we were tossing around in Franconia would work, 20 and 21 January, 09. 100 Lacs would be pleased to offer Quebec Riders a forfait (package) for $200/rider. This would include a dinner on arrival nite (20 Jan), lodging, breakfast on 21 January, dinner, and lodging, and breakfast on departure morning (Thursday, 22 January).

Already, 6 reservations have been made. Obviously, if someone wanted to stay for only one nite, they could do so. The "package" rate of $100/ day would still apply, including breakfast and dinner.

A few observations:

Cent Lacs is located in the high Laurentides; on Lac Adonis, on a Wood Runner Trail, 26 klicks off of TQ 33. Cent Lacs is approximately 120 klicks South of Parent. Nearest Pourvoirie is Club Scott, 70 klicks Southwest.

Their website is www.100lacs.com

Jacques is the father of one of the new owners. He maintains their Montreal base. His phone is 450-261-6075. email; centlacssud@qmail.com

During the day on Wednesday the 21st, following breakfast we would plan a day ride to Clova or Casey, or??????, and return to 100 Lacs for dinner and general silliness.

They can accomodate over 85 people at 100 Lacs and there is plenty of space available at present. They do host a significant number of foreign tour guests who wish to experience hiver dans la belle province, so availability can change with no notice.

This place is one of the greatest snowmobile destination/accomodations in the bush I have stayed in 25 years of touring in Quebec. The Astounding Potato Brothers heartily reccommend it.

Merlot Fluffy wishes you all to know that Cent Lacs has the finest wine cellar you will ever find in the high bush of the Laurentides.

Check out the website. Call or email Jacques if you are "in" for our QR Quebec Rendevous in January. Let me know if you are planning to join us so we have an up to date roster of attendees.

My riding partner and I will be arriving in Shawinigan on the 14th and the heading out for 10 days the next morning. I am trying now to figure out a way where we could to stay at 100 lacs the 20th or 21st when passing through. Hope to see you there. It may depend on conditions in the Val d'or area as that would help us spread things out. :drinks:

Snowbound

Great snow throughout that region. Trails good to excellent. You should have no problems getting there from Shawinigan. (or from Val d'Or via 83)

Shortest way is 318 to St-Michelle, then TQ33 thru Manawan to TQ 13. About an hour to Cent Lacs from the 33/13 intersection. If you like to ride, that would be a good day's ride. I'm guessing 280 miles.

Other choices would be to head up to La Tuque, then take TQ73 up to TQ 83. Take 83 west, thru Parent, and get on TQ 13 South just beyond Parent. That's a two day ride for most guys. Another would be to take TQ 63 out of Shawinigan, over to Mont Laurier. Jump on TQ13 north there.

Hope to see you guys there.

Depends whether you would go thru Ste-Agathe and try to screw around with TQ 43, trying to take 323 or 315 to get up to Mont Laurier, or to go thru St-Donat thru the Park, and take TQ 63 to ML. 43 has a few "missing links" this year with portions closed or re-routed I am told, and it might be a little squirrely that way. (Mid Range or one of the guys who rides that area might have more info on that).

Going thru the Park, i'm guessing 260 miles. Cent Lacs is about 2 hours from Sainte-Anne du Lac.

hope to see you. the attendee list is growing. should be a hoot. call Cent Lacs if you can make it.

Just got a PM from three guys who want to come to the Gathering next week from Rapides -des-Joachims. They would be crossing over from Ontario. Anybody have recent info whether the trail from RDJ to Jonacas; and from Joncas thru the Verendrye to Louvencourt, is open?????

I will have to interogate Chopper, but I would take a wild guess and say it's around 20, and growing.

Well the time has come go. See all you people at 100 Lac's for a good time. Rich

Well my riding partner has an issue that is going to prevent us from going to the gathering now. We had planned to be leaving for Shawinigan this afternoon but that is not going to happen now. Unless someone else from Pennsylvania is leaving and has room for me or wants to share a ride up with me I will not be attending.

Sounds like a few of the QR rider boys got to try out the new bob house just off the coast of Matane.

The schedule was for a 2hr 20 min crossing. 13 hrs 5 mins dock to dock

Now that was a fun night! We went to the Quality Inn and they had cancelled our rooms because the ferry was cancelled for which we thanked them as we thought they would charge us because they were guaranteed. Next we had breakfast changed into our driest clothes and hit the trails to Bathurst. Made the host in 7 hr 55 min including one stop for lunch and gas and a visit with groomer and one final straightner at Island lake before the trip was over.
