  1. I typically like to ride into Quebec out of Northern Maine. However, given the fact that good riding seems to start later in the season, and the fact that a friend has now joined me in retirement, I am thinking it might be worth a trip to the Mont Valin area in early January. Any recommendations for lodging in that area? Not having a lot of luck searching the Internet. Would be interested in opinions based on experience. Don't need a fancy lodge, just a clean room with two beds and a place to eat. Thanks very much.
  2. I am unable to see the fuel stop on the orange trail to Pemonca. Probably not a trip I would risk taking without carrying fuel, which I am currently not set up for.
  3. Great, thanks very much for this information.
  4. This coming February will make a quarter of a century since I have made this trip. As I recall, La Dore was the last stop on the lac St Jean end. Then there was the Saw Mill, and then there was a relais with a fuel truck, but rumor at the time the fuel was sketchy, and they were out of fuel when we went through. It sounds like the saw mill is not an option. So for 2023, where is the last gas on the East end, and what is the total miles to the next gas in Chibougamau? Thanks very much.
  5. I found it to be a bit of a pain also. They seem particularly concerned about the snowmobile being owned by the person whose name the permit will be in. I suppose this has to do with the insurance piece of it. At the end of the day, it is a trail pass, not adopting a child.
  6. Hello, my friends and I are planning to finally come back to Quebec this season. We typically leave from Northern Maine. My friend would like to revisit the North Shore/Saguenay region. Looking at the map, it looks like there is a section of Trail 3 on the North Shore that is closed. Is that expected to be the case this coming season? That would prevent us from taking the ferry from Matane to Baie Comeau, and running trail 3 South. If this is indeed the case, what is the best option for getting across via a hired trailer at Quebec City? Thanks very much. Very much looking forward to riding in Quebec again.
  7. I got mine yesterday evening. They were having touble with the website in the morning.
  8. Are Trail Permits available yet? I can't seem to get anywhere on the FCMQ website. It does show the rates, and that the discount is for purchase before 9 December 2022...Thanks.
  9. The test is a "PCR" test as I understand it.
  10. As I understand, all that plus passport info, date, time, and point of entry uploaded to ArriveCAN app...
  11. My understanding is they want all that information on the ArriveCAN app.
  12. I am thinking I am going to focus on Maine as well...
  13. Exactly, that is the other piece of the equation. The border could shut down at any time, regardless of how much I have invested....
  14. Good morning guys, I was wondering what your thoughts are regarding the border crossing requirements. I'd like to buy a trail pass at the discounted price. However I don't want to spend the money on that, until I fully understand the procedure and CO$T to cross. From what I can figure out, the requirements pertaining to covid are: Proof of full vaccination from one of the approved vaccines, and a PCR test within three days. These documents, along with passport info, date, time, and point of entry have to be uploaded to the ArriveCAN app. I haven't gotten any further into the app yet. I have heard $175 for the test. What I have not heard is how smooth(or not) it goes at that border. The cost of the test alone is discouraging. Thanks in advance for you thoughts and information.
  15. Indeed. After reading all the comments, it sounds like the sled owner is a NJ resident who brought the sled into the U.S. undeclared. This would seem to me problematic....
  16. Thanks for the replies. I will continue to follow and pass on the information. Thanks again.
  17. I looked into this in 2002. At that time if the sled was built in either the U.S. or Canada, no duty had to be paid. I bought a Ski Doo in Quebec and trailered it back to NH. I paid no tax or duty. Had to stop at Canada customs with paperwork, and they faxed a form back to the dealer as proof the sled was going to the states and was tax exempt. I saved $1300 at the time with the exchange rate. I registered in NH without issue. Naturally my local dealer was not impressed with me. later, while riding in Quebec, I had some minor warranty work done at a dealer. I was questioned why I owned a sled sold in Canada. My French is limited, but what I got out out of it was the dealer was going to somehow let on the sled belonged to my brother in law in Quebec to make the warranty work. I ultimately traded the the sled in NH without issue. In your case, did you ride or trailer the sled back? Was it claimed at the border? What brand sled, and where was it built? Can it be switched from Klicks to miles? Seems to me if it's in the States legally, with supporting paperwork, it should be able to be sold without issue. If not, then maybe trade in Canada and get proper documentation on the next one?
  18. Any diabetic riders here? I have a 61 year old friend who returned to riding this past season after a twenty one year Hiatus. He is now diabetic, and uses insulin that he administers with a "Pen". He is concerned about the product freezing, as he currently carries it in his bibs that have no inside pocket. He is considering having an inside pocket sewed in, as he doesn't wear anything under the bibs that have suitable pockets. Just curious how other diabetic riders are dealing with this. Thanks very much.
  19. I never used to make reservations, but I like to now. My recent rip was about half and half. We had some mechanical issues, so it can be hard to make reservations.I am in the habbit now of reseaching ahead of time, and saving numbers in my phone. Then I'll make a reservation at at a fuel or lunch stop, once I have an idea of how the day is going. On my recent trip, we left from Maine and stayed in Rimouski, Matane, (short day) Mont St Pierre, Perce (Table a Roland), Carleton, Rimouski, and back to Monticello, Maine.
  20. Nice. Tarte Au Sucre with ice cream looks good too..🥧🍦
