Still at dealership, 3 weeks Tuesday, opened it up and found more damage. Waiting for parts from BRP. Not very happy, these things and not capable of handeling the power they produce. I guess we found out what light weight gets you!!!

Will keep you in the loop if a slot opens up for a trip.

Phil.............Yamaha....Yamaha....Yamaha, give them a try.

Good luck with you sled.

Never an issue. I will be back in your home town on the 9th fly homeone the 10th. Rent one I dont blame you for being gun shy I have been through that very same issue 2 years in a row with 2 different sleds. That is why I went to doo for a few years. I rented one to try and see what I thought cheep way to find out imo.

I wont even bust on you the whole ride up

Sandi, my wife, started out many years ago as a passenger. This is early 80's. When our son got old enough, we bought a second sled so the three of us could go together. She started driving a little then when our son didn't go up and found out that she liked driving better than being a passenger. Those days 100 miles was a big day. If it was cold, we would make a short day. We didn't do any saddlebag trips until the 90's.

Sandi grew with the sport along with myself and the folks we rode with. We gradually made bigger trips and bought better clothing. We pick nice places to stay. It doesn't have to be the best place but nice.

Sandi did feel funny about it being primarily a guy's sport but she has turned that around and doesn't let it intimidate her anymore. She does miss the company of another female at times but then at other times she gets a kick out of being the only female in the relais.

From what you have posted, it sounds like you are going in the right direction but not everybody loves snowmobiling the same way. The cold seems to be your biggest issue. Make sure she has clothing that is comfortable, warm and even fashionable. Make sure the hot grips are working correctly. Maybe a bigger windshield.

All of that I think you already know. Make sure the sled is handling good. Not just good from your perspective but hers too. Does the sled behave well? Is it easy to steer? Does it go where she wants it to go? Does it stop good?

If she is not in total control of the sled, she won't be happy. Each time Sandi gets a new sled, it gets a little better. Her current sled is better than her last sled and that was betteer than the sled before it.

It is fun to be able to share the experience with your other half.

Jack & Sandi

Thanks Jack. I agree and will look to make sure I try these things. Where do you and Sandi usually ride? Maybe not possible, but it sounds like my wife and I riding with you, Sandi and others would be fun, plus it would give Sandi another woman to socialize with. As Spring seems to be approaching....this season may not be possible...but perhaps next season? We've have traveled to Maine, NY and Canada so we'd be willing to travel to meet with and ride with fun people.

Let me know if or when you set up a group ride with couples and maybe Deb and I can join. You say not this season, but next March?

Hi MXZ700Rider,

What is your riding style when you're out with your wife?

When you're riding together, do you adjust your riding style to suit her? Jack tries not to let me get too far out of sight or he asks me to go first. If I can see him, it's easier for both of us. He will take off at times on a really nice trail but he never passes a change of trail or even a stop sign on a road without checking that I'm still behind him. Plus you can talk about what you saw on the trail later if you're riding closer together.

I have seen couples riding where the guy is 5 miles ahead and the female rider is crawling along the trail looking terrified. This cannot be fun.

Remember that you are supposed to be having fun and sharing the experience.

Sandi & Jack

Ride conservatively And never get too far ahead, always wait at stops...she keeps up quite well. Sometimes too well. :) I stopped unexpectedly once because I passed a turn, and she had to lock the track up and slid past me! It was all my fault for not signaling I was about to stop and slamming on the breaks. Her riding skill has improved each year. Initially she was very tentative and rode slow....but she is much better now. Plus riding with me gives her a chance to complaion about my riding especialy when I fail to signal and lock up the track. 8)

Funny story to share.......about 10 years ago, Deb and I took trip to Yellowstone to ride. We both had rental sleds. Well we were riding for awhile on their trails and I lokked behind about 20 times and every time she was behind me. At one point I decided to ride off trail as is popular out there. I didnt break new trail, but followed some tracks that went off main trail that looked like fun terrain. Well I didn't go real far, but did open it up which causes you to travel farther than you think in a short period of time. Eventually I stopped and waited for Deb my wife to catch up. I figured she was no more than 15 seconds behind me. Well I waited and waited....and no Deb! I doubled back and no sign of her! Oh Crap I thought. We did not have helmet communicators, but did have small hand held Motorola talkies. I was beginning to get panicy because we were in a rather remote part of Wyoming and it was totally my fault for getting us seperated. The other challenge riding out thwre is there are so many tracks that go off the main trail that it can be hard to tell what the main trail is and what isn't so what direction did she go when I went of trail? Did she stay on main trail or follow tracks to who knows where? Well after getting to a high point to see if I could spot her, which I could not, I tried to reach her frantically by hand radio. She thankfully replied back and I asked in a frantic and concerned manner " Where are you?" She replied, I am up ahead of you and looking right at you! For some reason she saw me but I couldn't see her anywhere? I was at that point not far from her and was able to within a few short seconds, re join her. I knew sahe was probably going to be very mad about me seperating so I thought a little humor might be called for. I lifted my visor and said to her. " Holy crap....Do you know how close you came to losing ME?" She found the comment somewhat funny, I think?? I learned a very, very big lesson that day about staying together. My wife told me that she was staying on main trail where she wouldn't get lost or stuck. Actually that was smart as I did get the rental sled stuck a day or 2 earlier when I decided to powder ride off trail. Took quite awhile to dig the sled out that day so I can see why she thought "what are you doing going off trail again! I'm not getting stuck like oyu did the other day". We can laugh about that situation, but it has taught me a lesson about not assuming someone will see where you turn off so I always stop and wait at intersections and trail turn offs to make 100% sure wifey is behind me.

She may enjoy the saddlebag trips more, I know my wife does. Many people feel you have to stay at the same place and sort of need a "base". I have found she likes the saddlebagging better and many times it is easier, if you are planning a 200 mile day and you get 100 miles out and have a problem you still have to get back. On a saddlebag trip the day can end at the nearest place if it has to, that it why I never book more than a half day ahead for a room.

Also I don't go along with the idea that you both have to have the same model sled. She doesn't like my Apex but loves her Vector.

You are right. Planning a saddle bag trip is a bit more work, but at least you don't have to loop or double back over the same trails which can be boring and same old, same old experience. As for sleds, she loves her 700cc because of the suspension too.

We are actually staying at the Quebec City Inn by the airport

Planning to do the Glacé hotel I think Saturday

Maybe getting into the city for the parade at night

One day heading west keeping it to ~ 100 mile or so loops

Keith's wife has not been on a sled for 10 years or so. So we are keeping it real easy

The Ice Hotel is a must see. They have a bar in it believe it or not. It is interesting and something to see. We were there 3 years ago, but didn't ride because the trails ended up being poor. The hotel we booked gave us bogus snow reports and when we got there we talked to some locals who were riding and they said trails were icy and thin. The hotel told us before we left that trails were great with over 12 inches of snow. The hotel rented sleds so they probably lied to get people to travel there. Have since learned not to trust hotel trail reports. Did sight seeing and ate great food though but wasn't going to fork out big money for a trail pass to ride dirt and ice.. Have fun

Deb and I are not long milers. About 100 mile loops is her limit, maybe a bit longer. Maybe we can join you on future Quebec trips....or even local PA riding if we ever get snow?

Sounds like you got some good advice on here already. When I met Sharon she had never even seen a Snowmobile! Now if I even tease her that I am going on a trip with out her I get one of those looks that could kill! She also thought that any below 50 was cold now she is good down to about minus 30!
