dooright
Riding gang down to two for this weekend 3/15 3/16. Made the call .. I need to ride ! Friday night in the truck up to Shawinigan with Jaybird. Had hopes of staying at Escapade, no dice it's full for the night. Off to the Comfort inn for our first time. Super nice place , large room , trail right there , no problem. Breakfast starts at 6 so thats cool. Had kinda late night so breakfast at 7, on the trails to Roberval by 8. Start on M-1 to the 23 shoot to 353 up to TQ73 . The plan is to catch LT2 , be the first time for us. Picked up LT2 no problem. New snow from the night before is really piling up , seems a foot of new or so to make this really really nice.Dumped out at trapper at 11:45 , bunch of sleds there so kept rolling. Domaine for fuel and lunch, super busy there as well filled with locals. Push the button and head up 355 , lots of new snow pretty much single track the whole way to TQ83. Plenty of daylight left so turn right and head to Chambord to cut across the lake on the local trail to Roberval. Slight problem. .. there's no trail now ! After great thought ... and there's a few tracks and sight of some fishing shantys out there ,we pointed on the orange gps line and made a bee line to the other side to Roberval. Quick tour of downtown then picked up 373 and pulled into Chateau roberval at 5with 280 miles for the day. Very quiet here,food/service was good, room was real nice with vermont channels on the tube! 6 sleds total in tent the morning. dooright
Day 2 The breakfast at the Chateau was worth the trip ! Looking outside, are you kidding me ! It below zerof winds been whipping all night too . This can't be March 16th , more like January. Pop out of the tent n head up the drifting , drifted 373. Much colder up in the hills on TQ83 between Roberval and realis 22 . Closer we rode to 22 , the deeper the new snow. I'm thinkin more than a foot in some places. Fuel , defrost and a chat at 22 . The owner says 2 more weeks the groomer will run, thinks trails will be good until may. Also told us he's had a decent season. . Very few American riders thought. Back on the trail at 11 . Groomer had run up during the storm so not nearly as much loose snow now. much faster pace headed to la tuque. This is the first time in a while I've been on this part of TQ73, it'nice ! There is a short section(15km) that the car road uses the trail , its plowed to ice but no sand. Clear sailing to la tuque , its a lille over 100 miles pump to pump now for that stretch. We did the Subway short cut up to the 73 , push south to 355 pipeline. Jaybird caught a glimpse of a lynx just before the train bridge ! Big cats 2 weeks in a row ! Picked up the 351 at the power lines , back down to the 23 . Getting into a little more Sunday afternoon traffic and it's much warmer ...+ 20f now. Grab M-1 and at the Comfort inn at 4:30 ,290+ for the day. In summary, it's still mid winter conditions for now.. Unreal saddle bagging for mid March Edited March 20, 2014 by dooright

mccaffrey
Very nice, that's a run that we do time to time when heading up late on a Friday. Late season riding, traffic low, 500 + miles of riding still able to get home Sunday night and work Monday, I like that orange trail!
