How many miles (kilometers) this year?
quebec bob replied to Blueblood's topic in General Discussion
525 miles....lowest total in since the 70's...went to north west new york for 5 days...stayed far away from old forge...I was impressed with the quality , smoothness of the well groomed trails....mostly 8 to 10....winding, wooded trails with very little traffic and 4 to 7 feet depending on where you were...it was all new to me and we would have never found our way out without a GPS, worst marked trail system I have ever seen....in 5 days we routinely saw sleds at intersections with no clue where they were or where to go. -
Feels like we just left there and it has been a year, last season was much better weather wise , nice feeling to pull into Central and visit friends, thanks for the pic!!
-
And the GPS has greatly added to this adventure !

I always add extra wheel kits and run a stainless steel wing on the inside of my skis to throw the ice and snow the carbides cut into the track windows, keeps things cool but a lot of dust following me.

Many of us have been very lucky....nobody rides for years without a lot of close calls...that statement is always in the back of my mind....and no matter how prepared or good you may be....it can always be someone else's doing...it is a dangerous sport...and it can happen to any of us, glad he is OK, he is a tough old guy, I hope I can get where he is at his age.
-
He is not a young man, and broken ribs are a tough thing, only time heals them, very painful and very hard to get comfortable to sleep, I wish him a speedy recovery, hope he is OK.

Starting year 48 right now, 35 years without a lunch break, 46 years 7 days a week...I am closer everyday to r.t..i...r.....e.....m....e....n....t. I read Mike Rider's posts and dream all the time that it will be me sooner than later. When I was younger I would have loved to own a place out in the bush, probably like most of us on here, now I just want to spend time out there enjoying it, that's what we all work hard for, I really feel for these guys right now, they have put their heart and soul into it and they are being tested like never before and it is not their own doing. It is certainly something where you have to love it and follow your heart...and having a few bucks put away is a really big help...this is no time to be low on cash.

Running a business, any business ...you really need to pay attention...these small outfitters in the bush....it is all about the occupancy rate...when we are there and it is packed...it all looks great...they are drowning in cash....but 5 months of the year...they are trying to cover for when there is nobody there..but still a ton of work to be done and paid for....out in the bush...this job is demanding...both physically and financially.

Stan, some great memories there, he was a true gentlemen and legendary for being a great guy and a great host, everyone who checked in got to sit down in the lobby and have a free beer and socialize with him and maybe get to hear him play, may he rest in peace forever.

JG, cooking, your own private office, has her own sled...does Linda have a fishing boat...she is a keeper...you are being spoiled!!
-
The Promise Land....truer words were never spoken on this site!....As for Snowmaster, truly great guy, a lot of fun and I look forward to the next ride with him. Only thing that could add to adventures would be if Bernard at Safari was still with us singing these songs while playing his guitar.

the worst I have ever seen this early, looks like it is going to be a long , dry summer.
-
Hope you are wrong, one of my favorite stops, and I can see it would be a costly year to keep it running....and it is a very strategic location as well.

Where to stay in Val D'or Except Forestel?
quebec bob replied to Grand Poobah's topic in Abitibi-Temiscamingue
This will most certainly be the year we will all try hard to forget! -
I had some good small trail, woods riding in north west New York, trails were incredible, but a lot of road course America , steering lock to steering lock, 150 mile day feels like 300, but we rode, and it sure makes you appreciate Quebec.
-
I got Moderna last week as well , really looking forward to this being over!!
-
Nice write up Ice, I am getting worried that these posts may be all we get.....next season too...hate to say that, be well, Bob.
-
I have started a lot of saddlebag trips at 3 in the afternoon, ride 2.5 hours there, eat dinner and get on the trail by 7am to stay in front of everyone else, nice people there and good food, very convenient, but you do not want to loose 2 hours there at lunch on the weekend.

pretty neat mapping of topography
-
As long as they keep their helmets on they will not become domestic terrorists and will stay off the no fly list. Parts of norther Maine are as far north as St Donat, trail and snow are similar, hope you are enjoying a great ride, happy trails, Bob.
-
I now have my vaccine and I am beginning to worry about Quebec next season...after 30 years of not riding Maine....you guys have convinced me to take up a month of residency if we get shut out next season.

Chris, I just spent a week in west and north west new york, trails were very nice and tons of snow, very low traffic, really was surprised, I will post pics and write up on the weekend, hope all is well, Bob.

HOLY S#$%!! AMAZING anyone walked away from that...go buy a lottery ticket...every time I see something like this I thank God it has not happened to me in 56 years...certainly some luck involved, once had a renter run over my sled while it was parked in a parking lot...you cannot be careful enough....sleds are very good and fast and light and sometimes you are in the wrong place at the wrong time and meet up with someone who is not paying attention or has no business being out there...everyone be well and safe . Some are lucky to be able to get out this season with lock downs, this is the last thing you need, getting hurt a 100 miles from help, you can always buy a new sled.
