  1. 12 of you...that's good ...you will have a lot of help getting unstuck!! Really ...been there...Moose Valley a few years back, 20 foot drifts and another time trying to climb out of Amqui...3 days later, Steve is right about a great adventure in front of you, be safe and happy trails!!
  2. That is a good place to be, but tough conditions leaving there in a storm, wind can be brutal around the lake, we are packed and leaving 5 am Tuesday, hoping to get on the trail by 12 and get 5 or 6 hours in, hopefully snow will be over by the time we start, happy trails.
  3. We will be right behind you on Tuesday, do a good job breaking trail for us, maybe we will see your on the North shore between Godabout and Sep-tile late week, happy trails!!
  4. I was always a little worried that anyone at the border crossing could send your info to some one in Montreal and they could be following you 40 minutes later with a key and just hop in your truck when you went to a restaurant and drive away with everything in a second. I work in the auto industry and I know this has happened because it is just not possible to get in a newer vehicle and get around all the software and drive away, some of this theft is by very organized, connected groups, like others here have said, they are shipping this stuff over seas .
  5. Never knew that, but I do know that when you are 2 or 3 hours away from the shipping lanes you do have a chance with a phone call or a tablet to try and locate it and hope like hell you can beat them there. Also there are a lot of wanna bees out there that are not connected to organized crime that you could probably locate and today a lot of newer vehicle can be located, just like a cell phone. You have to at least try to either prevent these guys from targeting you or at least try to catch them, do not give them a free pass, it hurts everyone, the sport, the lodges and us.
  6. I have a GPS tracking device hidden in my truck and sled, you can track the location of your vehicle on line, hard to believe this technology has not led to some arrests or at least a few good beatings, god knows the guys that are doing this deserve it.
  7. 2018 back country 850, high windshield, ice scratchers, extra wheel kit in front of skid, 1.6 track, 146 long, ridden 3 trips in Quebec, almost 4 k miles, transferable BEST warranty with 3 years remaining, only used BRP oil and Canadian non ethanol fuel, mint, not a mark on it, just ordered 2020 154 back country with shot. Available mid-March, may help with delivery, first $7900, firm, do not need to sell it. 413-243-2112 days, Lee , Mass. Ask for Bob.
  8. I have seen that before in the same area, Manawan is like the wild West , just a normal thing for neighborhood dogs to run free, and not be fed and cared for like we do here at home, it truly is a different world and thought process there.
  9. Dave, absolutely correct, great food there, all part of the tough conditions every one tells their better half about while on the trail in Quebec!!
  10. Yes, the wages are much higher in Quebec for similar jobs in the US. I always have a problem tipping on a bill for a stay that is inclusive because I really never know how or if it is distributed to the workers fairly. I much rather tip people in person when the service is delivered, good personal service by a waitress is how and why we tip in the US and we can tip them based on their effort, those who work hard make the most, promotes good service too. And yes, I generally tip the guy pumping my gas out in the cold at 20 below, I doubt he is getting rich pumping gas at Repo, not a great job, and 2 dollars and a smile and thank you goes a long way, just my 2 cents worth.
  11. even older paddle tracks would tear lugs, but nothing like these newer single ply tracks, the tear easier, throw more studs into heat exchangers on trail tracks and in general do not hold up like the old camoplast 1.25 rip saw did. I have 3k on a 1.6 backcountry 850, still looks new, but I take it easy out of the hole, I know it isn't what it use to be...and I am not studding anymore...to many people are loosing heat exchangers...and I know tons of Canadians who never used studs .
  12. Many thanks for clarifying how this actually works, it makes it crystal clear how large a part we really are at trying to educate and convince these riders to start doing the right thing when passing on others property.
  13. Yes, It always amazes me that more people who jump on and off the trail sides don't end up tearing their trailing arms off on a branch or hitting a rock that will destroy the sled, it is a very common practice with younger riders, I seen some that ride as much off the side of the trail as on it. Thankfully 99 % are great and it is really up to those folks to start letting this crowd know where they can do that, otherwise...were going to be #@$!*&^!!
  14. actually it was my friend who had his wallet and truck keys in his pack, but at any rate anyone could of looked in there and taken it and the guys at the stop in clova certainly saw it , and we got it back, that was my point, HIGH MORAL STANDARDS, OLD FASHION HONEST PEOPLE, WHAT THE BUSH IN QUEBEC IS FAMOUS FOR!!
  15. Both my friend and I left our back packs in Clova a few years back, and realized it in Parent a 6 pm. We called back to Clova and after they were able to identify us by our licenses inside our packs they sent a rider to Parent, on the trail to deliver them to us, the guys name was Bob Morton, he was headed our way, in the dark and was from Ontario. He had our passports, a few thousand in US dollars, our truck keys, wallets, credit cards, etc. He would not take any money from us so we paid for his room and food in Parent without his knowledge. A week later he sent me a thank you card, he was thanking us...amazing, try that in most place today and see what happens, I have always said that some of the nicest folks I have ever met have been on the trail in Canada, second to none!!
  16. You can be sure if Yamaha is coming back with a 2 stroke, it will be like no other sleds 2 stroke. They made the best 2 strokes in the industry and on the water, hope it comes to a trail sled as well as the mountain. I am surprised though, sleds are the very smallest part of that company and I was beginning to think maybe they were getting ready to say good bye, but 880 sounds like they picked that size to come back and make a statement, but everyone knows that only a very small percentage of people buy the big iron and mostly that segment is not that profitable, time will tell, here's to hoping.
  17. Proper planning prevents poor performance...you should have got the model with the optional drinks cooler instead of that basket!
  18. 445 for regular and we just got it for 198 in Ma...less 30percent, I would rather be there riding than seeing it online, trails look mint, be safe.
  19. JG, I lost my dad 2 weeks before Christmas, 87 years old, killed in a car accident a mile from my shop, he was a passenger, I know what you are going thru,my deepest sympathy to you and your family, Best Wishes, Bob.
  20. Cabanon to the river matawin, back in the late 80's and early 90's always read around 100 to 102 miles on my sleds, but you know the speedometers were probably off by 10 percent...180 each way, still amazing when you think 4 trips, on those old suspensions, it a hell of a day even today.
  21. The best official, documented miles in a day, in Quebec, early 1990's...Dennis, the owner of Le Cabonon and Lee, the former owner of Bistro St Zenon, left Le Cabonon for River Matiwin thru the park on 360 and back to Le Cabonon on Mack Z's...4 TIMES IN 1 DAY.....YOU DO THE MATH.....800 MILES!! when you think about the miles it seems impossible...then you think about the park and 75 to 80 is very doable on that trail of 100 miles. They were done at 6 30 pm, and very tired, years later Lee said he would never do any thing like that again. You can hear all kinds of stories, I know this one to be fact and I know with today's sleds, it could easily be done on the very same trail...just have to have nice grooming and no traffic.
  22. It looks like it is coming along nicely, it won't be long!!
  23. Mike, the winner here is Universal Hotel, you will not be able to afford gas for your sled this winter!!!
  24. I too can find nothing on this, some one posting from Ontario is screwing with us!!
  25. I sure hope that this is just a late April fools joke, hopefully Trudeau is much smarter than this. A 25 % tax on Americans will most certainly hurt Canadians more than anyone. All the folks in business are basically running their ass' off paying taxes and insurance and trying to make a living and certainly do not need this kind of HELP?? Trump has made some bad decisions, especially with Canada and all our wonderful friends North of the border, but I can assure you IT IS NOT THE WAY THE AMERICANS REALLY FEEL OR WANT THINGS.Following Trumps lead is a mistake, we all know every day is a day closer to all this garbage ending. Most of us really enjoy our trips to Canada, our friends there, and it is a wonderful escape from all this garbage, hope this is not true!!
