As smclelan said, I met with ckf today and he was able to reboot his server and get things in good shape. You can get to regional forums now and hopefully many other things are working. We are also working on a significant upgrade to QR, so stay tuned…

It looks like quebecrider.com has been renewed for another year! At a minimum, we will be able to limp along for the rest of the season, then figure out a path forward during the off-season. Happy riding...

So the quebecrider.com domain name has expired, and in ~5 days or so the site will likely stop working. Apparently acquiring this domain is a lengthy process, >30 days. We can try creating an entirely new domain, quebec-rider.com or another name suggestion and then transfer to quebecrider.com if i can acquire it. Thoughts? Also, if anyone has input on forum software to use, let me know. I can host everything and would like to keep everything free. I dont think this site is a big load. My site uses wordpress and they have bbPress that i was going to try...

The next few days are going to be critical for the future of QR. One of three things is going to happen: 1. Things remain the same and we continue to limp along. 2. The site disappears for a while before i post an update. 3. It's gone for good. I would grab any key information or contact info you might want to be on the safe side. If it's #3, I'll post a special link on my personal website https://www.howsitrunning.com for updates.

I’m trying to salvage things, stay tuned…

Unfortunately the only person who can do the upgrades isn’t available to do it. Most likely the site is doomed, maybe we start a new one for next year…

Clicking the new topics button seems to work fine.

Problems are really starting to increase now. If you get more solutions, post them here..

For a secure connection you need to specify https as follows: https://www.quebecrider.com/forums

I'm getting an increase in calls for website issues again. Likely Microsoft is putting out a Windows update for various security issues, so I expect this will impact more people over time. Let's use this topic to keep track of issues and solutions, as well as a place for you to test if you can post, etc.

If anyone wants to try this, it worked for me on another forum, but who knows if that will solve the problems here. I'm sure it's different for every browser and operating system, so you may have to do things different. I'm using the latest Chrome on Windows 11. If you go up to the URL section at the top, you'll see "Not secure". Left-click on it and select "Site settings", a new tab will appear as shown below. Select "Privacy and security". Scroll down to "insecure content" and set it "Allow". I also did this for "pop-ups and redirects" and "intrusive ads" for the heck of it. Note that this only effects quebecrider and none of the other sites you visit. http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2024_01/image.png.13bbe3ff941c93cb6355c82f0e1cd150.png http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2024_01/image.thumb.png.ca9b127b7f6876d4ba4f4133f905ee67.png

I’ve worked with a few people on this and it seems to be related to older operating systems. I would suggest trying a different computer or phone. However, I just bought a windows 11 computer and there’s another website forum I can’t see because it’s an unsecured https, but it works fine on an iPad.

I took the pledge…

Lac Blanc and Saccacomie are in this region.

I was surprised to see this, I've always had a good time at Lac Blanc. These people must not be members of QR, or they would know how and why you lock everything up...

Is the bearded-one coming out of retirement?

You may have better luck if you put that on a bottle of red wine instead of milk…

This is always a busy time of year for “Accidents”.

I just found this statement from the ministry of Quebec on the APTN website: The Ministrie has been working with provincial and local governments to safely transport the polar bear back to its natural habitat or to the polar bear sanctuary of the zoo in St Felicien. Unfortunately, due to enforcement of current Covid regulations, all containers approved for bear transportation are currently occupied by those who have chosen to disobey said regulations. Since the Canadian government is still not approved to execute its citizens, the bear had to go. The Ministrie would like to thank the offer from Thomas Rohlman to use his trailer to transport the bear, but unfortunately it’s only approved to transport large cats. We would also like to thank him for his subsequent offer to purchase the bear skin, which will now reside at pourvoirie kanawata. Sincerely, Jean-Donald LaGlace Directeur, Ministrie du Quebec

Does anyone know if there’s an official trip duration that might get you a random Covid test once you cross into Canada? I’m guessing if you do a day trip or one night, they won’t ask you to take the test, so it got me thinking if there was a hard break like a week or so.

That’s one of New England Bobs stops. Tom and David were there on one trip, Bob got lost again and I think there was a wedding going on that night.
