  1. How fast can they move? Gallop? Probably faster than you would think. Several years ago I was told by some locals, that a trail groomer came up upon a large moose who was blocking the trail. The groomer stopped and tried to wait the moose out. At some point for some reason the moose began to come at the stopped groomer and was rutting it. Didn't do much damage obviously to a steel groomer...but the moose wasn't intimidated by the size of the groomer at all....imagine if it was a snowmobile it decided to take on. These stories are probably rare, but they are happening. My wife and I came across two large moose as we were just getting on a main trail from our B&B in Greenville Maine. They both stood like statues and didn't bother us at all, but they were huge and it is no exaggetartion to say that their legs were so long we probably could have ridden right under them....but did not! We stayed on trail and they stayed about 20 feet away from us.
  2. And why post it....to be proud of what you did? It was unfortunate for sure that the animal had to die in such a way...but he apparently felt he had no choice.
  3. I sent you an email message. Not sure about trails, but they were good and it has stayed cold. I was up late Jan...early Feb. Trails were perfect then.
  4. I saw where a moose attacked a snowmobiler on a trail in western US. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Or had a run in with wild life while snowmobiling?
  5. Also, great idea making it possible to get trail permits online. I actually got a full season permit because I was able to purchase my permits before the deadline and saved some money as a result.
  6. I have been trekking to Quebec to snowmobile for about 10 years now. Yes it has gotten more expensive, but so has sledding in the United States. Permit fees are high, but at least when you do travel to Quebec to snowmobile....the trails are groomed perfectly. I rode two weeks recently in Quebec.....last week of January and first week of February and the trails were all groomed to a 10. I had maybe one small section of rough trail in 10 days of riding. The trail maintenance is top notch. I cant complain about anything, or think of anything to suggest to improve the wonderful snowmobiling experience.
  7. I just saw a pretty disturbing video on youtube of a moose on a trail attacking a guy on his snowmobile. The moose charged him once, then the guy pulled out a gun and shot it! I guess he feared the moose was to attack him again. You can view yourself on youtube site. Anyone ever hear about a moose being that aggressive and attacking a machine( snowmobile) or human?
  8. Before my trip to St Donat recently, I dropped close to $50 on the thickest grade security chain the hardware store carried, and the best lock I could buy. Neither was cheap, but if you are going to use a thin chain or cable, and a lock that can be popped....you are wasting money and not securing your investment as well as you could. I a not saying my chain is 100% theft proof, but it is very thick and would not be easily cut. It is a shame that I had to spend close to $50 on such things, but at least I returned with my sleds. They were kept in a fenced coral, which was chained up....and I also chained my sleds together. Overkill? Not to me.
  9. I was up in Saint Donat a few weeks ago. We ate at Pot....an my wife thought I was paranoid when I sat at a window table to watch over my brand new 2014 Ski Doo sled. It was during the day, but after hearing stories of sled theft....I wasn't taking any chance. I had heard that the provincial police had broken up the theft ring? Not true? Seven sleds stolen at same time sounds fishy to me too? Were they insured???
  10. No thanks. Hope all my snowmobile stops don't serve squirrel. Poutine yes....squirrel, duck, beaver, elk, moose, rat, possum, no!
  11. The way I see it....USA good at Basketball, Canada Hockey , USA good at Football, Canada good at Ice Fishing, Curling, Snowmobile Trail Grooming!!!!!!! and Poutine.
  12. 182ray....Ice dancing! I didn't know that, I feel much better now. If only we could have won at curling.
  13. USA mens hockey team lost too. Just not our sport. Canadians are born on skates and seem to grab a hockey stick as soon as they can.
  14. Doubt it. But not sure. We visite it by car two years ago and did not see any sleds or trail. I do know you can snowmobile to the Sheraton Four Points hotel and be shuttled to the ice hotel. I believe you have to reserve a room at the four points though too and you can either stay overnight in ice hotel....or at 4 points..
  15. when do you think Ski Doo will start the spring order line up? Should be soon?
  16. I do not follow womens hockey, but it was clear that the Canadian women were better at handling the puck, passing, etc....It really showed in the final minutes when they needed shots on goal. USA team was too helter skelter and played too much individual hockey. Plus Canada played with an open goal for 90 seconds and USA couldn't get a shot at goal.
  17. The Canadian women took it to the US. I wonder how many of the Canadian women snowmobile? I bet a lot. Skating and sledding are the sport of Canada. Congratulations.
  18. Going into overtime. Canada just tied the score with 90 seconds left. Quite the intense game
  19. I thought it was some new and creative safety precaution for deep snow mountain riding. Something only a seasoned experienced rider would think of. I have never ice fished, but would think perch would be biting. At least you caught something! where is the auger?
  20. UP Michigan to get hit with 2 plus feet of snow from blizzard. Wish I was there! A friend of mine just returned and said it was great. He stepped off the trail and sank like a rock. It apparently took 4 friends to hoist him out of snow bank.
  21. Wow Linda, you are prepared. Snow shoes and rescue shovel. You know how to travel!
  22. Wish I saw the plans earlier. I was looking for an opportunity to ride some more in QC. Sounds like I will miss out on a fun opportunity. I have to pick my wife up at an airport back here in Pennsylvania this Friday....or I could have pulled my plans together. Maybe next year.
