Here is the 300 miles loop we did from home yesterday, Saturday February 15, 2020 It is one of our classics that we do every season, many miles but easy to do because there are many fast segments. Yesterday conditions were also ideal: cold to have beautiful solid trails that last all day (-22C at 8:15 when we started) and good visibility to be able to ride easily. In addition being able to do it directly from home: we are blessed! We did it starting with the southside. As expected most of the trails were freshly groomed Here in St-Barthelemy area, we even passed the dozer which was finishing his run Its a good temperature indicator when you see the snow dust staying in the air like that... When we make this ride, we always cut between #3 and #63 near Louiseville on #350 trail , it's more direct. As long as the little Rivière du Loup is good which was the case: solid and marked The only problem at these temperatures is my gopro that I can't keep alive, it keep shutting off itself. I had to turn it back on maybe 12th time just to get there so I finally give up and left it off. Here St-Barnabé sector. Here west of St-Etienne des Grès after the stretch from the above pic, we had to turn left at the junction to follow #3 trail and there is this clown face stuck to a tree ??? there are several of them in different places in this sector that have been there for years ... I had always wonder what was the meaning ??? After refueling, we cross the St-Maurice near the Gabelle dam. The last storm having left alot snow last week, the river is a bit bumpy but it's not bad East of St-Maurice river, pleasant surprise: #3 trail was mint! We got on the St-Maurice river in Grand-Mère (trail M19) We then went straight at #23 trail junction to continue on the river Be careful to follow the stake trail, it's a clear water spot on the left! The trail is well marked and it's impossible to miss it, just follow the safe route.. The river trail was a bit bumpy but is still rideable at a good pace. The scenery is as beautiful as ever Here the little trail as we got out from the river and pass under the #155 car road bridge Then back to perfects conditions The conditions were so good that we arrived at Marineau at Rivière Mattawin for lunch at 12:10 with 130 miles on the dreammeter We shared there a good lunch with Cobra from here on QR that was starting his vacation alone in the area. I was knowing him from the many messages we had exchange in the past about the conditions and more, and the timing was good so we hook up there for some riding together after our meal. The #360 was nice and fast with his as always superb views. Given the nice trail conditions, we chose to expand the ride a bit by looping on the M20 trail. This trail had never deceived us and was even nicer this time. The picture do not do justice to how good it is to do this stretch a beautiful large glacier on the mountainside, outstanding when the sun shine Good luck for trying to respect this sign!!! The last 20% of the length is a little slower but so beautiful We took a break at the #345 junction and we then continued south We took another break at the Taureau reservoir dam. It was just 3:45 pm and it was going so well that for a moment I had considered looping around the reservoir on the #360 and pass through St-Michel des Saints but by doing a quick calculation, we already had a 300 miles ride with the initial plan so I decided to be reasonable and keep it more relaxed. This red renegade have a darn nice look! We met a dozer who was starting his run very close to the Cabanon where I stopped to refuel. We then continued on the #23 south of the Cabanon where we passed this other dozer which was doing his south loop We arrived at Réal Massé around 5:15 pm to taste a good vegetable soup and have a last good chat with Cobra. With my bad frenglish and the limited Kristine's 4 english words vocabulary, he had a good challenge but when people sharing the same passion meet, it all go well and we had a very good time together (for us at least 😂). Beside being a gentleman, Cobra is a very good experimented rider and we consider ourself lucky to had the chance to share a ride with him. We left around 6:15 pm in home direction. The trail conditions were still good even in the evening on this cold day and we've been home a little before 8:00 p.m. with 309 miles on the dreameter, the smile still from ear to ear from this very nice ride. In summary, the conditions are at their top right now, can't ask for better. Hopefully mother nature cooperate and the winter conditions continue so that we can still enjoy it for a while! Thank you very much to all of you guys!!! The St-Côme sugar pie have an history for us. In Kristine's childhood, her grandma had a chalet in St-Côme and each time they were passing by, they bought a sugar pie and some cinnamon buns from the bakery near the river in the middle of the village. Later when we begin to ride by sleds together, we had always stopped there and bought a sugar pie or cinnamon buns that we would eat by the half in the parking. I remember trying to fit the remaining half sugar pie in the rear trunk of the single place indy 400 85... It was a bit more damaged at arrival home!!! We continued to do that since, and each time we take a bite in their sugar pie or buns, it taste again exactly the same as more than 30 years before for me and 50 years for Kristine... one of the best treat on the planet!!! give it a try if you pass there As promise, i left you a video clip of this same ride that I just edited. as usual crank up the sound and quality to best enjoy it

Here is the path of our Saturday February 1, 2020 ride We started directly from the home in St-Thomas (near Joliette) by sled with the primary objective of going to see the ice sculptures in St-Côme. It was around -8C at the start with a layer of fog that the sun was chasing away We went through Joliette. Slightly past Lapointe Sport, the trail runs along the railway that we used to follow up to St-Félix de Valois in the past but we must now, almost at the beginning, turn left and make a detour. The trail that goes straight is the ATV trail only that takes the road further. The interactive map is up to date and I put a screenshot on which I wrote the old approximate route with red x and an arrow shows the intersection from where I took the pic above We connect back along the railway a little north of Notre-Dame de Lourdes The snowstorm from the previous weekend did a great improvement and the snow cover is now very good even in the south of my area. Here a little north of St-Félix de Valois. Note I have different pic size on this report, some come from the camera of my sweetheart and others from my Gopro headset North from St-Jean de Matha, just past the BRP dealer Gero, the Black River is marked and solid As we go up from the river, the trail that used to take the wood now runs along the road. A good path that ride very well A little further at the junctio we took on the left towards St-Côme The snowcover is excellent and the decor is beautiful Note that the trail run on a road bridge instead of an ice bridge this year. Here when approaching St-Côme The "St-Côme en glace" festival was just started we were on the first day of it on February 1st, and it run 3 weekends up to the February 16, so you still have a lot of time if you want to come and see. As we expected, the ice sculptures were not yet very advanced and we were rather in the construction phase where we see the artists working on them. Unfortunately as almost every time we go there to take pictures, the sun hides as soon as we set foot in St-Côme! We laugh about it now it happens almost every time but we take pics anyway. Here is a sample of what we saw: Some sculptures are small ... And others bigger like this plane which is about to have an other wing Several sculptures are well started and will be completely finished in the next days. Several are real life size so always impressive to see This one is under realization and will surely be impressive to see when finished, a good one for the dogs lover like me! As usual they push the ice concept and go from cute to usefull! It was already past noon, so we went to La Marguerite restaurant at the entrance of the village. With the festival, they were obviously a bit overloaded and the restaurant was already quite full when we arrived but I have to emphasize the exemplary service they gave. We got there around 12:25 and at 13:10 we had already eaten very well, bill paid and ready to go! I stop eating in many places but efficient like them it's not common and it was the same there last year: my hat to them! Being near to leave St-Côme, the sun started to show up! so we took the opportunity to go see a couple of other sculptures at the entrance of the village. Here, the fox and the crow ... Not sure there was squirrels in this story but they are cute! and this fireplace with a lot of details, so realistic that it smelled like a log fire next to it ( it is funny buy was really true !!!) We then took back the venture and rode north on #343 trail There has been logging in this area in the past years because of the power line construction but it is over and we are now taking advantage of the forest road path they left us. Very nice to ride, wide and clear view. We made the detour to go and fuel up at Coin Lavigne We then took #33 trail north. The river along the trail offers several beautiful views We then took the local trail which brings us on the #63 further east We passed La Glacière and took #350 trail And then forked on #23 trail to go down south. The trail started to be worn due to the traffic of the day but it was really better than I expected We passed the Pourvoirie du renard Bleu And took a break at the #63 junction We then continued and passed St-Gabriel de Brandon where the 2 dozers were just leaving to do each their their own runs To shape up the ride a bit, we went through Berthierville where we also met the dozer at the height of St-Cuthbert. We finally came back home around 6:15 pm with about 170miles on the dreammeter, another wonderful day for us. The suspension of the venture worked well because the sugar pie we had put in the Givi rearcase in St-Côme arrived home in not so bad shape ... and the taste completely intact !!! In summary, we are in the heart of the slead season and the conditions are great everywhere. If you want to make beautiful rides let go, it's time! For those interested, the St-Côme en Glace festival continues until mid-February and leaves you another 2 nice weekends to go if you don't have time during the week. The trail passes through the village so super accessible and the experience is as beautiful day and evening as most of the sculptures are illuminated. I was joking about it, when the animal show up it always seems easy to catch it but when it's you that trying to find it, it's an other game!!! Thanks Cnc! We see some turkeys here but not as much and not as often as you seems to have on your side. For sure it is something new here because the first we seen in a trail is 3 years ago and since I see some each years.

They may had tried to escape before your american thansgiving but they did not know we ate them for Christmas!!! As for hunting them , from what I seen the challenge would have not be really high... I was tempting to try to feed them like the gray jays!!!

*********** video added on the post #8********************** Here is the trail path of our last Saturday ride 25 January 2020, before the last snowfall We took advantage of the chance we have to be able to start our ride by sled directly from home and took #43 trail south from St-Thomas de Joliette in order to explore the south my area. Very mild temperature around -2C. Here along a windbreaker tree line near home We then took the #3 east. Beautiful and fast trail with correct snowcover The Chaloupe river in Berthierville is good and staked We then continue on trail #3, here in the St-Barthélemy sector. There were some spots with brownish snow but it was before the 6-8 inches of new snow we received in Saturday to Sunday night I usually take the loop on the #63 east of St-Barthélemy which takes us a little further north, away from St-Laurence river(ie more snow) but this time I kept the #3 which was correct Just before St-Ursule I wanted to take the 2nd loop of #63 but it has changed places (the interactive map is up to date) and it is only a dead end which leads to the Cascades pizzeria at the old location of the intersection. We must continue a bit less than 1 mile further to get to the new junction of the #63 trail This new trail path connect on the #350 trail path of past years in the power lines We continued straight to keep #63 to see the Magnan falls in Charette A little further, a big wild turkey crossed the trail in front of us When you see one, there are more... the rest of the herd was right next to the trail, not shy at all We then arrive on the site of the Magnan falls in Charette The falls themselves are frozen hard but this place is always nice , a good spot for taking a break. Just downstream from the footbridge, the river forms a sort of large pot. One day I should walk to see the fall on the other side ... And the view upstream from the bridge We then continued towards Ste-Etienne. It was very mild and the trails were starting to get soft. Here in an atv shared section a side by side had swung in the ditch. They were already well installed with 2 other vehicles which were pulling with winches to bring it back into the trail. Good for him because is a lot harder to unstuck than a snowmobile! The trail being soft it was already starting to get bumpy We refueled just before crossing the St-Maurice river near the Gabelle dam On the other side, trail #3 was particularly worn. We got shaken up to the junction for Lac à la Tortue that we took. We then took a dead end before the St-Maurice river to go to the Pizzeria du Lac where we ate very well as usual After lunch we continued and got on the St-Maurice river. The sky was geting more cloudy We went up to the intersection with #23 trail and saw that the M19 trail (the one that ride on the river toward Marineau) was closed. The club closed it on Friday because of water accumulation. We for our part turned on #23 west A few bumps but good condition. We feeling of passing through a tunnel here! The snowcover is good and it was riding well. We passed near the Vallée du Parc ski resort in Shawinigan And then continued west Here passing near the l'auberge du Trappeur Here a small bridge with a beautiful view, we always stop when we pass there We found ourselves in front of that at the #349 junction for St-Alexis des Monts It bothered us a lot. I did not know if the detour was to go through the Koubec (#350 trail farther) which would have push me tight for the gaz, so we took a break there hoping that someone who would pass could inform us and that's what happened. About 10 minutes later, a group of 3 sledderss stopped and they were coming from St-Alexis and had just made the detour, so they explained to us what we needed to know. The reason for the detour is the repair of a bridge. The interactive map is up to date but not my GPS map ... I really need to install Imotoneige on my phone ... Here is a screenshot of the interactive map concerning this detour where I surrounded in yellow the closed intersection and green the new. Just be careful because the signage coming in the direction like we did is not the best and you have to look backward to see the detour sign. This is before the Pin Rouge entrance of the Mastigouche reserve, so if you got up to the Pin Rouge entrance and didn't seen the junction, turn back. You can't miss it coming from the other side So we easily reached St-Alexis des Monts village where I refueled full but it was already 5:00 pm and we were still far from home! It was late enough for the dozers to had start their runs so we rode on a freshly groomed trail up to the Pouvoirie du Lac Blanc. We did a short very rought segment, then got quite decent conditions in the Mandeville club where we crossed the dozer midway We cut on Lac Maskinongé staked trail to reach St-Gabriel de Brandon where it started to snow hard very suddenly. It was not too windy so visibility remained acceptable on the low beams. So we came back under the snow and arrived home around 7:45 pm with 215 miles on the dreammeter A other great ride for us but the mild weather did not help the trail condition and with the chosen path which was slower in the afternoon it gave us a big day. We discovered ourself new muscles sunday morning which we didn't know existed!!! In summary, the snow cover is good everywhere and will be even better with the snow that we have just received. Yes I have a week off on the beginning of March especially for riding with my good partner Snowcruiser. We don't know where yet. We begin to talk about it last saturday night on our small trip and had no definitive plan. We are very late planners, we will decide in the last days before the trip knowing the snow conditions and the possible storms that can affect our plans. Yes I was so nice to meet Jim and Gemma at RDL and having much time to chat with them. And it was nice to meet you there too for the first time! You are welcome slomo, Bienvenue! I took some video files as well during this ride, I will try to do something with them in the next days ...

Here is the map of our first 2-day ride from Champlain to Lac-Édouard and then St-Raymond Saturday morning we left Champlain (east of Trois-Rivières) accompanied by our partner Snowcruiser under a cloudy sky and a temperature of -21C . Just decent snow along the St-Laurence river but it quickly improved as we ride toward north and the trail base was hard and well groomed. We went up to Grand-Mère where we took the trail on the St-Maurice river We rode few miles on the river up to the #23 trail junction which we took north. The long trail that continue up on the St-Maurice river is also already open and marked. Under good conditions we passed St-Tite village Just before crossing the Des Envies river, we stopped to give some help to bring back on the track a snowmobile that had gone straight into a curve. Fortunately no injuries but plastics are not tought at -20C when it stops on a tree ... We then continued on the #23 whose path is improved this year to make less roadside We stopped at Ste-Thècle to refuel and continued via trail #351 to go to dinner at the Tawachiche relay just at the entrance of the Zec After a good warm up and meal we continued north It was riding well even in this part where the trail base is really uneven, just barely a few bumps still present. I do not know the reason but the trail is actually diverted in the wood on the part just before connecting with the #355 instead of staying under the power lines like by the past years Here a rear view at the #355 junction, looking towards the Pipeline section further south. There was a lot of wood cut on the right! We then continued north. Here near the big railway bridge over the rivière du Milieu The conditions were very good on #355 and we see more snow to the ground as we go up. Before Lake Wayagamac, we forked on the local trail Lt1 on the right We then took the #73 east and finally the #355 for the last stretch towards Lac Édouard. The trail was a bit bumpy but the snow cover is impressive We missed the junction for the lake trail and finally ride the whole path on the land trail And we arrived at our destination at Gite d'Edouard just before dark with 150miles on the dreammeter. It is a place that we have visited few times in the past years and the owner Nicole has again received us as well with great hospitality and generous/delicious meals. We had a real good time there after our day ride and we had relax and chat alot before a good night at warm On the next morning, a little layer of fresh cream was on our sleds We had retraced our steps on the #355 trail. The groomer was passed overnight leaving us a perfect trail to start our day We then switched east on the local Lt2 trail. There was only one sled track in the 3-4 "of new snow at this place and we had great fun to play in this nice powder We took a short break near the relay at the entrance of the Zec Jeannotte And then continued on #73 trail east We took another short break near the "Marmitte" We passed Rivière à Pierre and continued on the #73 towards St-Raymond and my Kristine managed to catch this beautiful action shot at trail speed. We then stopped for lunch at St-Raymond and ate well at the Paquette pizzeria. We then continued south, our goal being to loop back in west direction to Champlain. We had a little overestimated the progress of the trails opening in the south in this sector and our first try proved being unsuccessful: we tried to take the trail to Ste-Christine just south from St-Raymond but after a couple miles in an AtV shared trail under the power line, the ATV trail turns left and the snowmobile trail.... well it was just not done yet. Here right after we turned back. So we took the #23 trail east to loop a little farther south east. They had made a first groomer pass but the trail was not so good. Near St-Basile the #3 trail was even worse and we really think to turn back but after talking with a guy coming from the opposite direction we were knowing that is was better a bit farther and it was not a dead end so we kept going forward at very low speed. We cross some people that were at installing stakes and signs When we were near Portneuf Station, to get better conditions, instead of keeping on the #3 we went up on #23 to make a loop a little further north. The trail base was good and although a little bumpy it was perfect after what we had rode just before! We took back the #3 trail just a little before St-Marc des Carrières The rest of the trails further west toward Mauricie were all good and the 5 to 6 inches of new snow allowed us to ride at a very good pace We got back at our starting point in Champlain around 5 pm with 165 miles for the day and 315 miles for the 2 days. An other great ride for us!!! The snowmobile season is finally off to a good start and with the snow fallen in the weekend it is only a matter of a few days to have all the south trails completed and the trail network fully connected. It's now finally the time to enjoy it and hit the trails for saddlebagging trips. The best of the season is just ahead us! We were pretty sure it was broken because of the pain and the blue color the joint had took within just a couple hours but the x-ray show ok for the bones so it is the joint itself that took the hit, we hope it will be a speedy recovery... We had to postpone the sled ride this weekend because of the weather, so she had a break as a photographer, instead she shovel! She's unable to stop...

We have a big storm ahead that look like to be rain for me at home near Joliette but a foot of snow for st-Zenon ... we hope for the best!!! Thank you Mike, the season just begin, the best for all of us is ahead Thanks viper2! It looks like we will got wet at home but my playground norther will continue to shape up. I'm just not sure we will be have decent conditions to ride touring during the weekend... and I may have lost my photographer for few weeks, i"m pretty sure she have a broken finger on her right hand she have an appointment with the doctor tomorroy ( no.no, it's not my fault she came back from the job like that!!!) The carribean trip was unreal... it was on Christmas day in Martinique! And i had no seasickness!!!

Here is the ride we did on Sunday January 5, 2020 This last weekend was our first opportunity since several weeks for us to ride again. Saturday would normally have been our first choice but the temperatures were far too mild since several days so we decided to wait on Sunday where colder temperatures were expected. We were not disappointed with a good frost overnight and a winter normal temperature of -10C during our day. From what had been groomed during the night and following TrailBlazer advice, we chose to start from St-Zenon and going to lunch at Marineau in Rivière Mattawin which give us an easy hundred miles to do before lunch. We started from La Glacière around 9:20 am under a cloudy sky The snow cover, although limited, is good enough to give a more than acceptable trail on # 350 which was freshly groomed The # 23 towards the Cabanon was also freshly groomed giving us a nice ride A surprise for us, the route from #23 trail is deviated from the usual path for 4 miles because they will plow a section of road for wood transport(the interactive map is up to date on this change). This different trail path was great After connecting the usual route a little before the Cabanon, there is some sand mixed with snow on some spots as we often see in this sector but beautiful trail no bump. We continue on 345 towards the dam It was also freshly groomed, the first part of4 miles which leaves the forest road was a little less beautiful with some spots of dirty snow and some rocks but immediately returned on the forest path it was nice and fast, but with few visible ice spots The last 0.5miles before the dam still shown some potatoes but it's really short The Taureau reservoir is already lowered by half and there is still huge water amount still flowing out Then we had a 10 miles rought that had not been groomed on the #360 between the dam and the junction for the #345north( in Repos direction). Here is a pic from my gopro this time, Kristine was using her two hands to stay with me! Once past junction #345 north, The #360 had been groomed by the Mattawin club for the rest of the trip and was nice and fast We stopped to take a short break at #440 rest area to enjoy the view of the river And then took back the trail again, still beautiful and fast the other classic point of view The last stretch of 8 miles out of the Zec Chapeau de Paille was notch down given the limited snow cover but still nice and practically no bump. The cabin with the barrier in the middle of the road at the entrance of the bridge is no longer there... We arrived for lunch at Marineau around 12:30 with just 101 miles on the dreammeter. It's always as nice to stop there, just good things to say about them! After refueling, we chose to take the exact same path for the return. We usually choose to loop through the M20 /#345 but the #360 was far too nice to look any further. The traffic of the day did not wear it and we returned toward the dam at a very good pace. The small rought section before the dam wasn't any better, the #345 south of the dam showed some wear, not much bumpy but have swept/icy curves but not enough to really slow us down, just a bit in the big curves. We cross 2 groomers thay were about to start their run when passing at the Cabanon. The#23 south from there had stay beautiful, giving us a dessert to finish the ride. We came back at La Glacière around 4:30 pm with 202 miles on the dreammeter, giving us a very nice ride for the day In sum, the snow cover is not very generous yet, but is sufficient with cold to give very acceptable trails like the ones we had on Sunday. It was nice to have the 10 inches of new snow we had last week , but without cold trail condition was bad with alot moguls . With the cold coming back, the trails will hold and keep good. We hope for more snow to continue to shape up the already opened trails and to continue the enlarge the playground down south. issshhhh, you had not got an easy one! Before the last 10 inches just fallen it was very low snow from St-Gabriel, I would bet that with cold and few grooming pass it will be alot better but it is so mild actually that it would not hold anyway... Your new ride is handsome! wish you many miles and smiles with her! you already got the shake test done! I have not ride since the beginning of december, I may give it a try this weekend but you confirm me I will need to go norther...

Glad to see you back here Don, welcome back home and Happy Holidays!!!

I was so offended that I just took a plane and spent Chrismas in Martinique! here on Christmas eve... (this pic is not intended to be in the boobs contest!!!😅) We had been invited by Kristine's sister and her husband to join them for few days on their sailboat in the Caribbean... if we had to have our feets in water at Chrismas, this one was a good choice!!! As for my thread, don't feel bad for me! but I agree that Snowmaster reports deserve by far to have their own thread here, his reports are always in the 5 stars range and more than entertaining, we should rename him "reportmaster"!!! I'm sure everybody don't want to miss one! So we are now back home, having a couple new year partys ahead and some jobdays... we should hit the trails again on next weekend to see how the trails looks like in my neck of the woods. stay tuned!

Back yes but not to square one... You are right quebec bob: trails have been closed in St-Zenon after some rain on last monday(9 december) but I then saw some reports on facebook from guys that having rode on the concrete like base that was still there. We are now today under an other rainy day, up to now it have been more ice and light rain, no real snow loss at home but it is not finish. I'm too expect the trail base that have been groomed to survive but we will need new stuff over to restart the season opening... the good is that most of the rocks will be seal down in and under that trail base... the bad: we have to wait for new snow 😟
