harrisb
Hey Folks, new member here. Trying to layout a trip for our crew. Just looking for recommendations at this point and who to call. We are in the Ottawa valley (spread around) but use Ottawa itself as a starting point. I want to plan a 7 to 10 day trip, we are all fairly aggressive riders but for most it will be our first long tour outside of the Outaouis (our home trails). Want to take in some scenary yet still enjoy the odd rip through the twisties (of course the full throttle straights are a must). Budget can be anywhere, some (the most likely guys to come) could care less, yet I wouldn't mind seeing some options. Even just some phone numbers of who to call so I could plan a trip like this. First time planning something like a sled trip so I want the experience to be good for all so we can repeat every year (or a couple times a year lol ). Most likely all guys with the exception being 1 girl, she can hang with the boys and we don't really need any spa treatment, she's happy riding. The odd adult beverage place along the tour is a must and we'd probably want a bar in each town we spend the night. I want to keep trucking the sleds to under 4hrs. Which means north and a little east of Montreal are all in play. We are about 1.5-2hrs from Montreal. Any ideas? Oh ya, all early to late 30's in age. MrGutz
http://www.bvsnowadventures.com/ Talk to Gary (mached), he can help setup an itinerary and trip. Later GutZ
actionjack
I think many of the QCrider members have so many miles in QC that they hardly need to plan. They'll just go up to where the latest condition reports tell them to. I do spend some time planning due to usually having a mixture of rider experience with me. The best thing I would recommend is a mapping GPS loaded with routeable trail maps (there are many threads full of tips). You can do a lot of planning on your PC prior to the trip, checking mileage between stops and choosing different locations. Contingencies apply and you should read up on tips for emergency packing and security precautions (I personally have never had any theft issues). Its also helpful to have a complete automobile set of Points of Interest since many times the closest gaz will be found by a Nuvi but may not be in the snomo POI database. My group is interested in routes similar to yours and here are my stop tips. St Michel des Saints Hotel Central on any Thursday. Hotel de Glace area St-Jacques Cartier?? La Malbaie Casino Chicoutimi Alma (my favorite place - walk from the Universel to restos and pubs in the shadow of the building) Mt Laurier area Lots of great places to start in your range. Funny thing is, we have found wild fun in cities like Alma and in small towns or even outfitters all over QC. Hard to get an early start or more than 200 miles in if everyone has the party flu in the morning. That and the later you arrive in a town, the fewer rooms will be available. Without a Sat phone it is hard to change your plans on the trail in the bush. On another note I have been helped more than once by an establishment calling around for me to help us find rooms.
