Two people are dead and nine others are injured after a pickup truck hit pedestrians in Amqui, Que., about 640 kilometres northeast of Montreal, Quebec provincial police say.

The driver, a 38-year-old man, allegedly fled the scene after the collision but later turned himself in and was arrested at the Amqui police station, according to a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday in front of the Captive microbrewery on Saint-Benoît Boulevard.

"The driver of the pickup truck hit pedestrians who were walking along Route 132. He continued on his way for a certain distance and hit other pedestrians," said Sgt. Claude Doiron.

Two men, one in his 70s and another in his 60s, have died. Two people have serious injuries. Some victims were transferred by plane to a hospital in Quebec City, but others were treated locally.

Yep, three of us rode 1010 miles all around the peninsula last week.  There are more gas stops than are showing on iMotoneige.  For instance, there is a station in Mont-Louis that doesn't show in iMotoneige.  Also a Shell station in Douglastown that isn't on iMotoneige.  We did carry one LINQ can, but never used it.

I wonder if the gas stations have to pay a fee to be on the map or is it just a case that their local club hasn't made the effort to have them put on? The Ontario map has the same issue.

I sure hope they have an English version of that. I can get by speaking the french that I have learned in school and especially sledding in Quebec but reading it is another story.

    Nice rig there. Interesting.

He put a lot of thought into it. The crane is off a service truck and he can load the sled on the deck if it isn't rideable. Its powered by a 4 cylinder Ford engine and has a top speed of 40 MPH.

I believe there is a trail into NB below Pehonamook (spelling) but not positive. It would be before you get to trail 85. After going by Chevlellier Frontier clubhouse, a few miles later  trail 35 makes a left and straight I believe goes to NB.  Also you could  go further east  and about 15 miles past Squatec leave trail 35 and head south to Moose Valley, NB. Trail 85 going into NB is a very long RR bed.  Squatec to Moose Valley is epic.

You are correct Mike. Trail 561 (off 35  about 13 miles east of Pehenegamook goes south to the New Brunswick border and connects with NB trail #41. We rode it one year when coming from Maine through Fort Kent.

Since the beginning of winter, a traffic fee must now be paid at the entrance to Zec Martin-Valin. This new pricing has surprised many people, including snowmobilers who already pay an access fee for the trails.

Whether by car or snowmobile, it now costs $13.46 a day to travel on the territory of Zec Martin-Valin 12 months a year.

The controlled operating zone, located north of Saguenay, defends this new pricing by adding services in winter.

We are not present on the territory, it handicaps a little. We had patrol. More and more, it's becoming natural that we have to be on our territory to provide surveillance and protection. Also, we take care, we are responsible for the maintenance of the road, also, of the F200 , explained Marie-Josée Savard, general manager of the ZecMartin Valin.

The collection of fees stems from the regulations of the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks (MELCCFP).

So far, about thirty statements of offense have been issued. Offenders face a sum of approximately $400.

The assistant who is hired by the zec, he is accredited by the Ministry, therefore by the Protection of Wildlife directly. He writes his report and submits it to a responsible officer. At that time, it is the agent who deals with the offense as such , detailed Maxime Doré, operations assistant at ZecMartin Valin.

He acknowledged, however, that it is more advantageous for the zecto sell a right of way, while the amount of the fine ends up in the ministry's coffers.

Snowmobilers interviewed by Radio-Canada said they were unaware that they were facing a fine.

We have our snowmobile trail map but we didn't know we had to pay for access to the zec, replied a snowmobiler.

I was not aware, absolutely not , replied another.

If the ZecMartin-Valin admits that she must better inform visitors, the Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec (FCMQ) fears a drop in the number of members.

There are even members of the Caribou-Conscrit club who intend to no longer be members because of this situation. They consider that they are members and on a territory which gives right to 33,000 kilometers and why I am charged on a territory which is not maintained by the zec. We are the club that maintains it , said the president of the FCMQ, Stephane Desroches.

The parties involved will continue discussions to avoid additional fees for snowmobilers who use federated trails.

This type of agreement already exists for members of the Fédération québécoise des clubs de quad (FQCQ).

Based on a report by Annie-Claude Brisson

Wait a minute! She's trying to justify the snowmobile passage fee by saying they maintain the road . Lets hold an informal poll here.                           Does anyone on QR know a snowmobiler who uses the road ?                    I'm guessing more ATV's use the road than sleds.

Has anyone been on the #309 to Val -dor since the warm up ?????.

Heading up that way Monday morning from Temiscaming .

    Zrtkat

Jeff, I just checked 3 different locations on the Weather Network that are on your Monday route well south of Val D Or. They are showing  a range of 1 1/2" to 3" of snow before Monday morning and more snow Monday. Hope this helps.

I am assuming that the trail leading west out of Notre Dame Du Nord connects with the A107Q north of Temiskaming Shores?

Looking for a week's trip and planning to ride from Timmins to Rouyn for a few days, but was looking at returning to Timmins going through this way.

    Any advice welcome.

    Thanks.

The trail that goes west from Notre Dame Du Nord goes out to the Blanche River which is also trail A108Q. If you turn left at the river it will take you down to Lake Temiscaming and the staked trail that goes around to New Liskeard (Temiscaming Shores). If you turn right at the river it will take you up to Earlton Ontario.

La Maison Verte I have heard good things about, it is right there across the road from the Inter-Provincial.   418 788 2342

That said, if you can get another room at the Inter-Provincial they do have a hot tub and sauna!

We stayed at  La maison vert a number of years ago. There were 4 of us. They have what is essentially a very nice walk out apartment with 2 bedrooms in the basement of their house. The walkout has an overhang above and we were able to pull our sleds right to the overhang.

The breakfast in the morning was great but it was  9:30 or 10:00 Am by the time we finished and got on the trail. I am not a B&B person normally but would go back there anytime if we could have the basement apartment.

To get there go east from the Inter-Provincial to the first street on your left. Turn left and it is immediately on the right side.

Thanks Chris. Dinner is a selection of lasagna, shrimp or pork  and rice with veggies but as stated you heat it in a microwave. It was good but not like we used to have obviously and breakfast is cereal, toast etc… Honestly I question if she is in a hurry to hire and return to normal. Less overhead and people still rolling in.

She may get away with it this year but it will catch up with her. I certainly won't be recommending it any more unless things change.

Our F---ing Canadian federal government have given away so much money since Covid started, to pretty much anyone who applied that now people are "entitled" to not have to work. Not a good spot for us to be in. Rant over!

No cook at Amosphere so supper was chicken wings or chicken fingers with fries. Waitress was also the “cook” poor girl ran around like a nut but did a great job, breakfast was normal and our dinner waitress was working again!

Last time we were at Amosphere it took over an hour to get our dinner meal on the table.  Too bad as we like everything else about Amosphere. Eskers hotel seems to have a good reputation for food and if the river is frozen its easy to get to by sled.

We are staying at l’hombre du vent. In parent . hopefully my gps will take us right to it.  Is it right off the trail or are there signs showing us how to get there.

Also we know there is no food somebody said there was store we can get food to take to our destination.

    Zrtkat

I think someone posted a week or two ago that the cottages at l'hombre didn't have cutlery or dishes in them. I can't find the post but maybe someone can chime in with more info. I also saw where the restaurant at the Central Hotel in Parent was open this past week at lunch time at least.
