  1. Does anyone have boots on the ground current info. on Gaspe and the trail closures?  I have a friend and his group slotted to start a trip next Monday and they want to make a decision on whether to cancel or not. I told him they would likely need to drive to at least Mont Joli to start the trip

  2. Our group of 4 (2 rooms) has early booked for over 30 years for our saddlebag trips. We have always had a plan. We have only had to pay the non refundable deposit once in all those years due to a breakdown although we have had to cancel rooms a few times.

We prefer not having to be thinking about those issues while riding but thats us and that unified thinking is likely part of the reason that we still ride together when we can.

Indeed. $6.05-$8.13 at today's exchange rate. Even more expensive than milk. 😀Happy to have it when we need it. Unfortunate that it is not as available as it was in the old days. I wish there was something on the stretch going up to Chibougamau.

The only reason there was ever gas available on 93 to Chibougamau was because the mill had fuel and was good enough to lett sledders buy it. Selling gas as a complementary sideline like the mill is the only way that any fuel supplier could survive in such a remote area.

But RED means definitely closed, right?

Correct but you are almost a month away from your ride. The red showing this morning would not affect getting anywhere on the itineray suggested. I'd bet heavy that any red in that area will disappear unless its not just conditions keeping it closed. There is still some red in many areas of Quebec. It to shall pass.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Lot of trails up there appear to be yellow or red currently, though.

Yellow up in that area is better than green in 75% of Ontario and  trail status is changing daily in both Ontario and Quebec. Not to mention that you are almost a month from away from your ride. No worries. JMHO

Day One:Temiscamingue to Val d'O/ Day Two:V.D. up to Amos-over to La Saare down to Rouyn-Norand/ Day 3-Rouyn back to Temiscamingue 865 km. total=540 easy miles!

Totally agree Muskoka2. Why drive an additional 2 hours each way. The Temrose in Temiscaming has very nice accomodations and a very good restaurant as well. Parking is available. If you arrive early and want to ride up to the Bannick to stay there you can park at the Esso just as you arrive in Temiscamming from North Bay.

Yes-I staked local trail near me by Nov.15!

Depends where the trail goes. You can sign/stake bush and rail trails early but you can't always do that with farm land. The corn crop on my field that the trail crosses didn't come off until November 13th and then the field had to be plowed after corn was finished.

he past two years the restaurant at the Quality Inn in Campelton wasn’t open on Sunday nights. That’s another thing to check when booking rooms, website may say has a restaurant but with the staff shortage some aren’t open 7 days a week, especially early in the week.

Some that are open may close very early in the evening especially in the early part of the week. When you ask if the restaurant is open also ask the hours.

Mileages don’t seem bad at all between hotel stays most are half what we usually do in Maine in a day but I’m sure we’ll be doing much more sightseeing along the way than we normally do.

In my opinion if you stay on 5 from Perce to Pointe a la Croix they isn't scenery like the north side or the interior. You shouldn't have any issue catching the last tilt and load to Campbellton. We wouldn't have gone to Gaspe as often as we have if it was all like the south side. JMHO

Great info guys really appreciate it.

If we got a room in pierce for a night does anyone know the rough mileage to the bridge at Campbellton. I’d like to get the tow over the bridge done at the end of a day and stay just over the bridge for the night.

When you say long trail into pierce is the trail rough/narrow and not worth the ride in?

I like the sounds of the Christmas mountain route sounds like a better option than 28 which I understand is basically old rail grade.

it's about 235 miles from Perce to the Inter-Provincial Motel/fuel/restaurant on the Quebec side of the bridge in Point a la Croix.

If you go to the Quebec on line trail map at    https://fcmq.fcmqapi.ca/fr/carte-cond.html#map    there is a blue box called itinerary on the upper left side of the screen. Its for planning trips and calculating distances in kilometers. Multiply km's by .6324 to get miles.

Its about 12 miles into Perce off trail 5. Both times I rode in there the trip in and out wasn't pleasant but that was back about 1996-2000. maybe it was my bad luck.

  11. Thats a great itinerary Fuse 6. Big day mileages but sounds like thats what the guys are into. Personally I'd take more time the day up on the top side crossing the mountains as it is the most scenic.                                                                                                                         I would agree with bypassing Perce Rock. If you've never seen it I guess its OK but in my opinion its a long way in and out to see a rock with a hole in it and depending on the weather you may not see it anyway. I'd rather see it in the summer.

Towing said just exactly what I expected when I saw the question.  The FCMQ has always held back on posting trails open till signage is in place.  I have seen this for years.  A law suit that should not have gone against the club gets everyone up tight and adds new regulations.

Also as Towing said, it was grass a week ago, clubs need time to set up trails.

    Thanks for sharing Alain.

In Ontario the clubs cannot open trails until the individual clubs' trail boss signs off and sends the form in saying that all required signage is in place. As mentioned its liability protection.
