  1. Hi Timbo, definetly possible to reach the indian reserve. From Barrage Gouin outfitter up to Obedjiwan indian reserve gave us 100klms, but it's the other side going down to Martin you gotta watch out for, 50klms of yeeeeeha, this is a 4 stroke lane,'cause if your on a 2 stroke following a 4 stroke, well, let's just say ya better have a tow rope on board. Watch toi. Martin has gas aswell but you can easily make it down to Clova, trail from him to Clova is a sweet ride.
  2. Thanks alot Revct, i had followed your posts on the regional forums when i got back. Nice to see you had a great trip. I hope Tom was able to help you out with your new GPS. Around here he's the one everyone looks to when their navigational skills become questionable.
  3. I believe it might be the 345 and possible the old 369 not 100% sure, anyways, Cabanon to Chateauvert was 160klms, Cabanon to Lac du Repos is 140klms. 30klms before Lac du Repos is the intersection heading up to Chateauvert, it could possible be in the neighborhood of 80klms from Lac du Repos to Chateauvert.
  4. Martin and Barrage Gouin both had gas, going up to Obedjiwan from Barrage Gouin on the lake follow the sticks and planted pine trees, on land crossings follow the tracks there are some signs but you really have to watch out for them. I wouldn't want to be caught out there in a white out or for that matter the first one after a snow fall. Good place to use your GPS. JG
  5. Pourvoire Martin Pourvoirie Barrage Gouin Trail between Martin and Clova Trail between Martin and Clova Trail 83 between Clova and Parent Trail 345 between Lac du Repos and Taurau dam Made some new friends along the way Taurau Dam
  6. The group of us Manaouan Dam B Reservoir Gouin Dam The Reservoir Single lane pathes The reservoir Not quite what were used too Obedjiwan Indian reserve
  7. We stopped at your place to say hi and have lunch on monday around 1:00, door was locked and saw no foot prints in the snow on the deck or in the parking, so we headed over to other place that sells gas to have lunch. Too bad, would have been nice to have met the folks at Tamarac.
  8. Day 1 Four of us got off on our way from the Cabanon 9:00 am, we were told it was 220klms to Kanawata from Cabanon and to stop for fuel at Lac du Repos 140klms. I asked about Chateauvert for fuel, they told me they were not reliable sometimes they're open sometimes not, with that being said and 3 out of 4 of us had 12 1/2 litre spare tanks on board we opted for Kanawata direct. To our surprise Chatauvert was open so we bought gas, this allowed us now to go straight up to Pourvoirie Barrage Gouin and not have to do the 12klm detour into Kanawata. We noticed a second trail on the map leading up to the reservoir from the 83, a dead end trail and we also saw a sign for Escapade pointing towards Parent and not up the trail for Barrage Gouin at the intersection on the 83 for Barrage Gouin. We asked about that at the outfitter and they told us that the trail no longers passes by Escapade on your way up to Obedjiwan and that dead end trail leading off of the 83 goes to Escapade. In at 4:30 Day 2 We left at 9 am and crossed the Reservoir Gouin up to Obedjiwan Indian reserve, this leg of the loop was 100klms of riding on the reservoir, islands and points of trails we're not quite used to riding on, ungroomed single lane pathes, never the less they weren't too bad, alittle tight in some spots but passable. In Obedjiwan i was told there is a linking trail leading into Chapais, it was open last year but not yet this year due to lack of snow and one river they were having trouble with. On my next to do list. Pourvoirie Martin from Obedjiwan was 50klms of very very sweet lake riding, all lake and very quick down to him. He is the last of lake riding it's all land into Clova and very well groomed. In Clova while having lunch i had the pleasure of meeting Revct aswell recieved some information from a gent that had just come up the Lepine road. He highly recommended to choose an alternate route to head south from Clova as the Lepene road had been plowed, sanded, gravelled, you name it. There are some side road trails but not good for the sled i was told. We therefore rode over to 100 Lacs, be prepared for fuel range it's a 200klm trek. We came in at 6:30. Day 3 We left 100 Lacs around 9am at the same time as a group from France, both of our groups heading to Manawan, them by lakes with a guide and us via trail. We arrived to our amazement with in minutes of each at Manawan only to find out they had ran out fuel, so we all headed over to Lac du Repos for fuel and lunch. Then we took the 345 down to Cabanon, what a trail, was freshly groomed. Arrived at 4:30 loaded up and return to Montreal. Our trip logged on 1100klms on our meters and we had very good temp condition -5c most of the time, trails were 9 out 10 except for trails south of 100 Lacs at intersection to JB Scott, from there into Manawan was very rough. Overcast for the whole 3 days so photos weren't there best. I'll try to post some pics when i can figure out how to.
  9. I was out there too with Grumpysanta on sunday, i found them marginal but well groomer for what we have. Things will definetely change with this new snow coming in.
  10. Not sure if they rebuilt yet but pretty sure they are still selling gas, however, this is Midranges territory and he would be your best bet for answers. Found this for you. http://www.oursblancs.com/francais.htm http://www.motoneigevaldor.com/en/trails.html
  11. Trail blazer,I went to the source as I spoke over the phone with Dominique(owner of Auberge Clova) and via internet with Martin the owner of Rabaska Lodge. The trail is open and in good condition between Clova and Rabaska lodge. They made a trail on the shoulder of the Lépine road(the plowed portion) to avoid the sand. That's great news Midrange thanks for your in put. Clova is supposed to open a trail this winter off the woodrunner trail to Lépine bridge at the ZEC Petawaga gate in order to avoid logging activities cause the Lépine road is sanded.I called at the Classic and he was waiting for fresh news wether or not clova groomer came all the way down to lépine road. Keep us updated, that would be nice if there would be an alternative route, i've down Ch.Lepine when it has been plowed, no fun at all. I spoke with Carol at the Tamarac, it's nice to have rider information aswell. So if you want to use a different trail during your trip...you can go thru Rabaska. Anyhow.....I will call back at the classic tuesday night to see if the new trail is open from Lépine bridge. BTW trails were in good shape from Maniwaki to the Classic saturday.....Lépine road is located in a different spot I am going to Clova next saturday.Don't know yet if we will go by the Classic or Rabaska lodge.
  12. Thanks for your help Viper2, i made some calls myself this morning but you never have enough information when it comes to riding in these remote areas. Hotel Tamarac, Casey and Pourvoirie Martin are telling me all is good trails are open, groomed and staked. Clova tells me and i quote "they are impeckable". Our plan is to leave from Le Cabanon and head up to the dam and take the 345 to Repos, once we have completed the loop of the reservoir and reach Clova, we have 2 options to date and are stil tossing them around. Option 1 head back to Parent and take the same trail back or option 2 take Ch.Lepine to Rabaska and sleep in Ste.Anne du Lac, return to Cabanon via J.B.Scott and Manawan. Despite information i recieved earlier in the season about Ch.Lepine(which was that the road had been plowed from Motel Classic to L'Evasion for logging), Clova tells me it is in pristine shape and groomed all the way down and in fact the trail is shot to hell from Motel Classic to Maniwaki from logging. I hope someone can shed some light on this, too much mixed information becomes questionable. Thanks in advance. JG

  22. Wow, nice pics, brings back memories i bet. Back then my pics were in 35mm aswell, i'll try to dig a few up, scan them and post. As promised i managed to dig a few up, not so sure about the quality. When it comes to those digital photos i am not as good as you Groomer. Here are a few scanned 35mm photos of our time at Faribault and Mt.Logan back in Mar of '98. If you can see, check out the bonfire pile. JG
  23. Hi Michaelw I am a resident of Quebec, west of Montreal and can ride right out of my back yard to anywhere in Quebec. For the last 10 years groups from CT and NY have been riding with me on saddlebag trips from 4 days to 9 day trips all over Quebec, they love the fact that they can save a few extra hours of driving by riding right out of the Montreal area. I organize and create the agendas for each trip, we are always accepting new riders in our groups, like Easyrider was saying there's always someone from someones group dropping out of the sport, you are most welcome to join in. Our trips usually take place in the monthes of Febuary and March. Keep in touch JG
