Season opener yesterday afternoon, decided last minute to give the North a try. IMotoneige showed trails were groomed starting from St. Gabriel de Brandon so off we went with the intentions to go to Cabanon and return. Buddy and I had a mixed bag day, beat up shit right out of the gate moguls after moguls so I give her some shit 30 k later my wrists are boiling and the windshield had popped and lost 2 grommets. Didn’t think it was that rough. Found some nice wide fluffy trails then we got stirred around. Leaving Koubec heading north to catch the trail heading east we see what looks like but not groomed just beat’n down with sled tracks. So we give it a go then another fork again just beat’n pathes and before ya know it after a few forks we’re on google earth google maps and imotoneige, oh did I mention I left my gps at home!!!! Buddy had his but only skidoo trail map in it. So we cross referenced on a few occasions ran some roads to reconnect some trails then 15 k outside of St. Gabriel at 6 pm in darkness we lost it all together and gave in to the road, did the Roadrunner thing. Despite all the adventures we managed to log in 150 k for the afternoon and all though the Extreme doesn’t handle like a sports car like the 137 Sidewinder in the twisties it’s more of a muscle car when the trail widens up.

That’s good news Don, weather bon homme said 20-25 for our area, we got rain all morning then drizzle in the afternoon, some accumulation but mostly ice pellets.

Love the Chibougamau run, keep us posted on the Mistassini leg.

Keep your bags on top, side saddle bags will have to sit in the tub overnight.

Just heard from the boys, they went from Cabanon to Sacacomie 152 klms. They said the trail was groomed to perfection like mid winter conditions. 10” of ice on the lac in front of Cabanon. Guys are riding up to Repos but not groomed yet, they will start next week. Surprisingly traffic was light.

I’ve got 2 friends that drove up this morning to test out their new sleds, I was on the phone with them when they arrived at Cabanon, said parking lot was half full and groomers were out. Anxiously waiting to hear from them.

X2 with Midrange, we have ridden out of Motel Godard in L’Anociation now Riviere Rouge up to the Forestel in Val d’Or on several occasions. 8:30 am departure 6 pm arrival.

Yup it’s closed for another year that confirmed from a conversation with a Cocraine groomer with Sledgirl at the TO show. Too much growth that grows rapidly and not enough volunteers to cut it back, remember there’s a 160+ klms on that stretch.

Anxious I am RR, I’ll be hitting the snow in 2 weeks when we get back from NYC.

Dump the spare gas and head up to Kanawata or Manawan pending on your direction.

Wanna nice place to stay in the area of Chibougamau, not in town but on one of the lakes. There’s no night life like at Hotel Chibougamau but if peace and tranquility is what your looking for with a bit of off trail to get to it then I would highly recommend La Domaine de la Mine d’Or. We did it a few years ago and going from BG to Martin’s is all road a lot of fast roads, I blew my belt coming into BG. When I have a chance I can send the god track for BG to Martin’s.
