Hi Guys, haven't been here in some time and have forgotten most of my GPS knowledge from when Rob started this thread. So I just got a Lowrance Elite 5Ti for sled use. It looks like it is able to take several map options. I have been riding primarily in Maine for the last decade, mostly off trail up towards the Allagash. Does anyone know where to find good detailed topo maps compatible with Lowrance for back country poking around?

So I mounted up the Elite Ti 5 really nice and secure and installed Topo Insight HD. Problem is, road names don't show and resolution is only fair. Does anybody know if there might be a setting to get better resolution and detail down to logging road names etc?

SPump, Made it back to Moosehead Lake and oh what a sunrise this AM

I really enjoy the Carrier group, hope I get to see them this year. I think he is headed north this week with Early rider for a ride.

Fortunately the Flu only hit a few of the boys, it was violent and not fun to be one of those  afflicted. I did miss that flu .....I think ......fortunately,🤞

FloridaSnowman, on the Balaclava, I agree with you 100%. I will most always where one under the Oxygen Helmet.  It gives added neck protection in sub zero temps, helps when sliding the helmet over the ears, and I feel unnatural without it LOL. Probably everyone knows this but You might want to go a size bigger with the Oxy helmet, they seem to run small.

Linda, on the sled comparisons, I did make a mileage trip error earlier, 603 and I got 600 miles on the turbos, an 1350 on the BC’s, a little less than originally thought.   Still a nice week in total. And as implied early these sleds each have their own sweet spot.  The turbo owns the trail spot over the BC handsdown.  It hugs the trail, in all trail conditions, has smooth accelerations, great handling and the stand by R motion is a winner that we all have ridden!

We still find ourselves struggling with the BC when on the perfect groomed trail. The narrower front end and gear we carry amplifies that handling issue. But put the BC on a worn groomed trail and or single track trail or powder and it takes over with nimble light weight riding and great power, and great handling for the conditions.

We did take the turbo out on some single track riding and it does still give you the impression of the added weight up front. Not bad, but a heavier feel over the BC.

if I spent 70% or more on trail it would be the Turbo.... no questions for me.

the same percentage or more adventure riding, BC is the winner

if you do 50/50, you just gotta have both!😁

Our next ride is after New Years

     Merry Christmas to a all

    Happy Trails

rode that section between Baie comeau and Godbout a couple times about 10 years ago. If memory serves me correct it's about 60 miles. I certainly wont ever forget it as "special" or "unique" is definitely a way to describe it. Roller coaster is a better way to describe it. The only trail I can ever remember being on in my life that mile after mile you have butterflies in your stomach from all the steep up and downs, some of which are very short distances between them. Makes me want to go do it again...LOL

Definitely one of the best sections of trail I've ever ridden. Last time there I stopped to take a picture (With a Camera) at the suspended bridge. Take off, go a few miles and notice my pocket was open and the camera gone. Just about to turn around and Bobler comes pulling up and hands me my camera. Awesome, until I look on he back and see a perfect center punched hole from Boblers stud. At least the memory card was intact.....

With New Trailer last year I could hide it in there...hmmmmm...

She'll be "I thought your sled was Red.....", it just looks different in the trailer, no lights.

    LOL

I pulled the trailer in the yard last season and wife said who's sled is that? Oh that's mine I said. She said, no that one. Oh that's mine too. I guess I forgot to tell her I bought a mountain sled for those deep days. It did make it easier to convince her that I needed a new sled for this year and I would sell both and get "just one".

Let’s welcome QR’s newest advertiser, the Hotel Universel in Rivière du Loup. For anyone who wants to tour the Gaspe, this is the perfect starting point since it’s easily accessible by truck off of highway 20, with secure parking and all of the amenities of a large city and hotel. The city and hotel are easily accessible by many different snowmobile trails and all of the major sled dealers are nearby.

The amenities are too long to list, but include secure parking, two restaurants, indoor pool and spa, WiFi, and great television. The hotel has over 200 rooms, but you should still make reservations, especially on weekends and holidays.

On your visit to the Universel, don’t be surprised to run into fellow Quebecrider members, and feel free to chat about your trip in the forums.

Great Place, been there a bunch of times. Usually run into someone we know at the bar or at breakfast. Been a while since I've been there but hope to make a few runs up there this year..

What an amazing time and trip this was. Couldn'thave asked for a better group of guys to go with.

Thanks to all of you for the memories and a trip second to none. The guys that gave up the last day of your loop to haul my sled out of the bush while I continued on I owe you a trip up to Gabriel to finish it up.

To anyone that wants to go do the loop message me on FB or at robert@teammaineracing.net

Howard thanks again for the effort you put into this blog

Great Job Rob, I was following you on your' and Howard's FB posts but the narrative really helps fill in the details. Look like an awesome adventure. Gonna try to get up to the Chic Chocs yet this year and when time and money allows, start doing some of these "adventure trips". Maybe get out with that guy from Jackman.

  8. 4,351 miles on the SledMagazine.com "Long term trial" Polaris 800 Rush ProR LE. Another 300 miles on a variety of 2015 models. Can't wait for next year to do it all over again. The Quebec Riders group definitely has some impressive numbers. Proud to be a member of such a dedicated group of riders.

How do I sign up for that program? I'll have a winter rental on the Quebec border again next season, I would be happy to "long term test" any long track 800 for you...:snack:
  9. I thought they were saying they were making it so Pat can't see off the side so it doesn't take her 20 and a heart attack to get across it.

    LOL

That bridge almost got the best of me...........back in 08 or 09, after a 300+ mile ride into Jonquiere, I caught a ski while crossing that and got tossed over the bars onto the road on the left side...........If I had gone right my landing would have been much worse..........$6000 worth of damage but no injury...........I think Saguenay Bill was there when I arrived a little worse for the wear.

  10. One time When I went to gaspesie last year..my wife wanted to use her GPS..LOL..well when we got to near rimouski we drove for 25k in the middle of farmers feilds..acording to the gps.. So is it the FCMQ..yes I have expirrianced the ..What the hell feeling with my gps on trails too..dont ride them much, ..but it did happen twice...I use my gps with way points I make.and mostly just for track back..simple and dependable..as for the gps being wrong..well someone else made the maps..so how good are they....they are only as good as the guy with the gps ..and most dont know how to use them wright..Rely on only you..I ride the mountains..and lost is not a good thing in the dark 15k or so from the nearest trail or town. Its your life..Take care of it.Make sure you know how to use your GPS..Mines a Garmin 60csx..the newer one dosent have the 4 prong plug..my son has that one.
Here is a link for the 2012 NY map. I do not have the 2013, but don't imagine it changed much. http://www.mediafire.com/?lrorsi2sbm139s1
Good to see all you guys still at it...been riding Maine last few years and it's not as good as Quebec but pretty good. I'm picking up a Lowrance Elite 5 today and was wondering if anyone has any Maine sled maps like the old Quebec maps made by RWS? His maps were awesome and inspired alot of confidence when in questionable conditions. Like QMR says above, rely on yourself, know your equipment and always be prepared for the worst....:bc:
  11. We were lucky enough to run into the roadrunner team first thing this morning. They are great guys and do an excellent job on here.

About all we can contribute is that La Chapelle appears to have been closed for a while, maybe they will open soon? It's too bad the C900 is plowed, we tried the old TQ93 trail to Sacre Couer, but after 3 or 4 miles it was too over grown so we turned around.

Groomer, unlike others up here, we respect the freshly groomed trails and always clean up our tracks, lol...

We came up that trail at night last year early in December, alot of bushwacking but we made it through...........too bad, I really like that section.
