Ditch Banger
Is there anywhere to have lunch im Matagami now that the hotel has burned down? PLAYHARD
iceman
Directly across the street from the Shell station is a restaurant. Resto Pub Deco. PLAYHARD
iceman
Seeing another motel there I never hear of. Just a bit further down from the Esso station on same side of the road. Motel Caribou looks like it could work to sleep if need be. Snobeeler, PLAYHARD and zrtkat
smclelan
That is certainly a motel you should book ahead, with the other spot in ashes this one is likely very busy. PLAYHARD and zrtkat

smclelan
Any word if Motel Metegami ever rebuilt and have rooms available this winter? PLAYHARD
GSX800
Funny, I was going to ask the same question. I believe I stayed at Caribou back in 2005 on my way caribou hunting. Not the Ritz for sure, but will get the job done. Obviously trip planning season has arrived. PLAYHARD and smclelan

Florida Snowman
10 days ago I sent out emails to the 2 contacts I have for Hotel Matagami for a status update. No responses yet. smclelan
PISTON LAKE CRUISER
If I was a betting man, I'd bet on it not getting rebuilt. The costs of building anything in Canada right now is ridiculous and when you add the remote location it would be that much worse. I think most touring sledder's have and will continue to ride through to LSQ or Amos. That wouldn't help a new place survive.
smclelan
Could a person ride from LSQ up to Matagami then down to Amos in a day?

It would be roughly 375 km. . The trail down to Amos is capable of maintaining good speeds in many places.

Left the chief’s place in La Dore, had lunch in Chibougamau and spent the night in LSQ.

Same here, only no dining on Sunday nights. Call in delivery only. At least the last time I was there. Ditch Banger
Last year my wife and I rode from Temiscaming to Amos Friday. Amos to Matagami through LSQ. Gas station lunch and back to Eskers on Saturday. (Left our bags in the room....nice) Resturant at Eskers is fun and an indoor walk from the room. Sunday Amos to Temiscaming through Val dOr. Loaded up and drove home. 850 miles of great Abitibi running. Spanky in Pembroke and mikerider
