Friday Feb 15 2019. 6:30 pm snowed all day, turned to wet snow then a bit of rain. all Diable trails will be groomed again tonight as it cools down. Unfortunally Hebou Blanc has closed all lakes in their trail system due to slush accumulation.

I carry what they call a fuel cell, small battery pack no bigger than the phone that can recharge the phone, go pro batteries etc several times on a single charge. Like the phone it likes to stay warm for maximum power.

Yup works without cell signal, map is on your phone, position is from gps, If we come to a confusing intersection and I am unsure which is the right trail, I check the phone to make sure we are where we think we are and sometimes ride down the trail we think we want a few kilometres and check our position again to see if we are moving down the correct trail.

More snow coming tomorrow depending where you are.

My favourite is a sign at a junction that says 40 km to...., and 15 minutes later it is 53 km to the same place. Dam I didn’t realize the sled was in reverse!😬

The first pic is one sharp picture deserves to be blown up and hung up on a wall.

It is way more accurate than posted distance on trail signs.

After the big snowstorm Tuesday and Wednesday here maybe 45 cm in places, club Diable et Rouge just posted this on FB.

I have been riding a long long time in Quebec, first trail signs were mostly put up by hotels ( read bars and places to party ). Hand painted on a piece of wood, when you saw one of those signs you knew you were going in the right direction! Times have changed but my experience is signage depends on the club, some do it well and others you go miles hoping you are on the right trail.

Both a Polaris I have and my Yammie Venture have heat exchangers under the running boards, so basically heated running boards. Probably not a good design if you don’t know what is under the power snow but boy is it nice to put your feet flat on them on a cold day.

Just starting to snow now (5.00 pm Tuesday) prediction is anywhere from 30-40 centimetres for Tremblant area.

Yup starting Tuesday evening and continuing through Wednesday for the Laurentiens. 👍🏻

With the recent rain most of our trails will be fine but a number of lakes are slushy. Hebou Blanc has closed the trailon 16 Island for now.

Actually I would expect that when there is an issue of sledders disrespecting private land where a trail runs through, the club is the very first to know. It is my understanding that each club is responsible for and individually nogotiates with the land owner the right of way through their land. This is done and renewed each fall, if you are a land owner with a problem, the club would be the first ones to complain to. If you go to the individual clubs web sites or follow them on face book, you will regularly see any warning about activities that have been reported by the land owner or the clubs patrol guys themselves. One local to me club had 4x4’s taking a liking to their trail in the beginning of the season. The police were called in to try and catch them. Last winter another local club had issues of off trail use on a land owners hilly fields. Again the police were called and on the clubs FB and web site page we were asked to be vigilant and take pics of the violators if we saw them. I imagine if you only use I motoneige to plan your trips, you do not see the clubs trying to solve these concerns.

Had a quick look around on club sites no info that I could find. Been a long time since I was there, but is that part of the trail cross a reservoir? I remember crossing one in that ares that they had lowered the water level a lot and we had to weave amongst big boulders with rings of ice on them looking like Saturn.

It almost seems to me that snowmobiling is coming full circle. Before clubs and actual trail systems, in my area we used to go almost any where and had packed down rough trails amazingly long distances. Nobody cared much about whose property you passed on BUT mainly because everyone had a machine or two. Pass on my property, no problem, cause i’m Passing on yours too. A main local trail came down the lake, up my front lawn and down my driveway to get to another lake and into the village, no one asked me it just was. Not long after with the start of clubs and the promise of grooming, we were slow to get on board, why should we pay to travel on the routes we and others had established? How things changed and I wouldn’t go back but in some ways it seems that we are back to the beginning with the industry actually producing snowmobiles that can go anywhere again and not get stuck on anything but packed/ plowed routes. Only difference is not every one owns / embrace snowmobiles and light weight and flotation has been replaced with raw power and Tracks that shovel snow. All this to say IMO, banning or limiting track length, paddle depth will only keep that segment in a Rouge state. They are not going away. Far better to encourage that segment of the sport to be part of an organized group to educate about the private land issues and buy passes for the trails if they are not now and at lease get revenue from them to help with the trails they tear up so fast.

It is actually pretty neat up there when cloudy. One time We were actually in the clouds, they were blowing by and the towers, guy wires etc were covered in heavy frost. Here’s a pic i’ve Posted previously on here.

Village du Windigo is real nice, classy stayed there with my wife. Bring a bathing suit, they had an outdoor hot tub. When in the devils mountain area, les chutes du Windigo is worth stopping for a few photos. Used to be a small hotel / restaurant beside it that we often stayed at but unfortunately it burnt down. The falls are still there obviously. Also going up to the devils mt summit, there is a trail / road marked CIP ( going from memory on the exact initials ), it takes you higher than the lookout summit and up to the massive cell towers. Worth the side trip.

Maybe I missed it being mentioned but I always use and carry gas line antifreeze.

The self tapping metal screws sound like a good idea, metal roof screws come to mind they have a washer with a rubber sealing gasket.
