We had no freezing in the night for 3 days in a row, not much rain but it raise to 7C saturday noon at home, probably less worse more north but we had a good melt. It will begin to freeze back tonight and we had a good forecast for cold in the next days. The south of my area took a good hit but the snowmobile clubs in the north will try to groom monday night and will comeback with the results. It will be icy with some bare spots in the best scenario but it's hard to tell exact result... we will need new snow for sure but at this point I don't exactly know how it will be without new stuff.

Thanks.  We're booked for the 19th for saint donat area.  Just debating whether to cancel or not.

One more thing I wanted to point out to everyone about the Camp de Base place in Casey.

Now if this don’t chap your ass nothing will. Well at least for me.
Last Friday me and the boys and a group of Québécois that were also staying at Windigo the night before pulled into camp de Base in Casey for lunch. A total of 8-9 of us. Who is there hosting but “Rafael” (goes by Raf) Nice younger kid who was also there last year. I saw the Starlink on the roof when we pulled in and I’m like “hell ya “

after everyone ordered their stuff I whip out the IPad and see the network is secured.
    im like …”Raf”….what’s the password?

he replies “can’t give it to you” I’m like….WTF do you mean you can’t give it to me. He says he’s under strict orders from owner as there were too many people pulling up outside and using it and never coming in to support the place. I said… Raf…I’m in here supporting it NOW , and LAST year AND the first year it opened when Norman was running it I was the FIRST fucking customer they ever had. He says ….I know Chris but I can’t.

chapped my ass something fierce and don’t know if I’ll get over it or not.

    just an FYI for everyone

Yeah its small stupid things like that that are going to kill the place.  We spent the night and they wouldn't allow us to charge our phones.  Couldn't spare the power.  I get they are offgrid, but the system couldn't be that close to being drained.

  3. Actually looking at the forecast and the rain does seem to be forecast in the east where its forecast for snow further west.  Have you considered running your loop in the opposite direction?  Saint Michel Des Saints is probably the safest option as iceman stated.  Maybe stay in Clova first night.  Reports of low snow in Amos.

  4. Sainte anne du lac would be my vote.  If they don't have snow there your whole trip is probably screwed.  There is several public lots in town for snowmobilers and less than an hour from Mont Laurier.  Either stay in Mont Laurier or at the motel in Sainte Anne Du Lac as stated above.  Thats where the snow line will be.

  5. Isn't this always the debate.  I've gone both ways.  Am finding with my significant other I book ahead.  Ensure we get a good place she will like and the miles are usually less.

With the guys I still wing it.  It's went both ways.  Our season finale last year we set out from St Raymond to Tadoussac.  Had a big 500 plus km day and didn't get off the ferrry till 8:00.  Never dreamed that half the town closes for the winter.  Ended up in the youth hostile.  It worked, but was definitely not the plan.  Next day worked out better.  Arrived in Saguenay at the Delta by 4 pm.  Was going to stay there and then made the decision in the parking lot to find another hotel further south.  The trails around town were brutal (bare ground) with everything out of town still very decent and we wanted to ride another 100 km loop that night.  Staying at the Delta would have meant having to beat the pavement 3 times vs 1.  So we got another hotel south of there, got our evening ride in after supper and our carbides thanks us for it.  There's no good answer.  I think if I was going anywhere with snow right now I'd side for reservations.  I bet the outfitters that are in the snowbelt are packed full with so many areas still not being rideable.  Completely agree hockey tournaments in the mid sized towns can really mess things up.

This does NOT signify what we rode today as it was only a couple miles before the 345/M20 and it wasn’t as bad as it looks. For folks who don’t know……. This is my favorite spot in all of Quebec. The 345/M20. I have spent so many hours/breaks/fun times here over the years with so many different friends and new people I can’t even remember it all. When I die my friends and family are coming here to celebrate my life and snowmobiling.  It’s the place I picked long ago as my best and fondest of times in Quebec with dear friends and times.
a little sad to see it like this today but I know it’s only temporary. Also the view up the M20 is jaw dropping compared to what we are all used to.

Jaw dropping as in clear cut?

Big money in their gas revenue.  I confess, been getting gas there too.  How is getting in to Manawan for gas these days? We have been taking the trail to bypass Manawan the past few years.

We were into Manawan for gas last winter.  No real issues.  The west trail is better but both work.  The town really was looking better compared to past years.  New community center under construction and a lot of the houses had new siding.

    Understood!

I am probably a bit slow but I don’t see a 345 on the map heading north from mattawin which is my confusion!🫣 I see 355? is it another one of these previous trails? Lol

also the La Tuque club is saying 355 south is not open due to logging (even though iMotoneige shows it open). 🤷‍♂️

Its to the west 20 or 30 km.
