  1. NO! The dry gas I use is isopropyl alcohol and is recomended for 2 strokes. Also ethanol should not cause melt downs in 4 strokes. It should only cause poor engine performance and should lower your fuel mileage. It is very bad for 2 strokes and as mentioned in an earlier post is destroying the 2 stroke marine industry.
  2. That burned piston was about 300 miles after my dealer held a bottle of startron in front of my face and told me to make sure that I use it every tank. I ignored him and I ruined a week long trip!
  3. ETHANOL!! I have to assume Canada is the same as the US and are using the 10% ethanol blend. Please correct me if I am wrong! ALL 2 strokes hate ethanol, it is just bad stuff. I blew one up after fueling at Manawan last year, 4 miles after we left the pump.
  4. This is looking very similiar to last season! 8 inches in DC last week and now today 10 to 20 inches in Philadelphia and 20+ inches are forcast in Trenton New Jersey. No snow to the north for days on end. I hope all of this changes soon! Hopefully 2011 brings us what we are all looking for. SNOW and cold in Quebec!
  5. Well said! Stay on the trail. Our sport depends on it!
  6. I thought this was the right trail! It did'nt look that deep! Guess I should have looked at the map first. Wish I could stay the whole month!
  7. As always thanks for the great report! It is looking like a good start to the season, lets hope the cold weather hangs on the entire winter!
  8. Hello Viper2 good to hear from you again. 1 jug, 2 pistons and gaskets ect. Dealer could not figure out what caused the failure! Right now we are just planning 1 week out of the Cabanon and maybe do an overnighter somewhere. We have 2 seats booked for the Polaris demo ride out of the POT. That day may determine if we snow check 2 new Poo's or Doo's in March. I also plan on renting a 1200 4-tech for a day to try it out. By the way all the motor work would have cost almost $2300! That really made me apreciate the extended warranty, $50 out of pocket. The warranty just expired!
  9. You are correct! This particular dealer replaces there fleet every year. I have never rented from them but have been there a couple of times, there fleet of rentals allways looked new and well maintained. I may rent a sled for a day from them this winter as I want to try out a Skidoo with a 1200 4-tech.
  10. Lots of torque on those 4 strokes! Rode with someone with a Yamaha last year and he also blew a belt, looked very smiliar. Had to completely disassemble the secondary clutch to remove the entire belt. It was wrapped around everything.
  11. Thanks for the report! It sounds like a good loop, I printed that out. I may do all or part of that next season. It is good to hear that you had good weather and conditions concidering the type of season it has been.
  12. Been on the phone 1/2 the afternoon, chaincase has been done as throttle cable and bracket was a nother one also completed. The CPU was remapped and paet of that was also the oil pump adjustment and both of them where done. Sleds both use very little oil after that. I now have to just wait for the dealer to tear it down and determine the cause. I am trying to work a deal with the dealer on a couple of left over 4 strokes. We will see what comes of it.
  13. I have done some investigating and it appears that there was a service bullitin about 4 years ago for an oil pump adjustment. I have never seen this bullitin before and therefore I do not think that it was ever done! What this means is that both my sleds have been running very lean on oil. I probably use less than 1/2 quuart every 250 miles, I here that is not enough! I have to contact the dealer and find out how this could of got past him! Thanks to dream of green for the info, I will let you know what comes out of it. The engine in my sled probably has damage also from running it over 5000 miles lean.
  14. Not my favorite area to ride in Quebec, but these are what I believe to be the flattest, fastest and widest trails you can find in Quebec. I was there 3 years ago and had a very nice experience. Any body who goes there will not be disapointed.
  15. I agree I will definately go 4 stroke. I am told the 10% ethanol in the gas these days are really hard on the 2 strokes! When I bought these sleds I was still one of the believers that a real sled has a 2 stroke, but I had changed my mind even before this happened.
  16. They are both 07's and do not use hardly any oil. A 250 mile day takes about a 1/2 quart. I have been buying Polaris's since 92 and these are my 1st 2 sleds with engine issues. I do have an extended warranty so 50 bucks should fix it but that is besides the point. I have lost my trust in these 2 machines.
  17. I will start with the bad! Headed to St Zenon and the Cabanon on sunday. Just 20 miles south of the area I Iwas really concerned, low snow and all the trails we passed by in the truck were dirt or close to it. Upon entering the Zenon area trails where looking pretty good. We checked in and did a 65 mile loop down to Koubecs and up to Mastigouge park. Not bad concidering the weekend traffic just left. Down to dirt at Koubecs but the park was good. St Michelle is dirt I would avoid the area unless they get a lot of snow and cold, temps have been very warm. Do not go south. Decided to do a bag trip to Clova on Monday, 345 to the dam was good with icey corners and freshley groomed. 360 around Lac Toureau excellent. 33 north to Repo good to excellent. 345 to Manawan excellent and 33 west of Manawan also excellent adequate snow and everthing was freshley groomed except a short part of 33 toward Repo. Now the ugly after fueling up at Manawan I noticed my wife disapeared, so I waited no sound all quiet, I turned around and just around the bend there she was with the hood up. The supposedly bulletproof Polaris 600 CFI blew up at about 5000k. At laest I think it did barely got it started and it did not run but about 2 more miles and then quit. Clutch side piston I believe. Long tow back to Repo and had to ride 2 up on a 1 person sled for about 90 miles. Season over amd my last ever 2 strokes. I will have 4 strokes next year or I wont go. Most disapointing season ever!
  18. Bill, You answered my question! I saw a little bit of rain for today in the forcast and you apparently got it. Looks like snow every day next week but the temps are not going to be that cold. I do not know if we will get to ride with you next week but we will be at the Hi on wednesday night for sure before heading back on Thursday. See you then!
  19. Thank you for all the info, we are coming out of Zenon via trail 33 through Repos and Manawan. Then it is off to Roberval on day 2 and then a day around of riding around Saguenay on day 3 before a long day back to Zenon through La Tuque the last day. We will look up some of the places you mentioned and decide what will work best for us.
  20. We will be leaving out of St. Zenon on the 22nd. We plan on staying 1 night at the HI before heading back.
  21. Sounds like your place is nice, but that is in the wrong direction. I want to head east the next day and go to Roberval. Maybe I get to the Tamarack next year. Has anyone stayed at lac 10 miles or Cheval?
  22. Here it is 1-819-666-2007 e-mail mario@kanawata.com Pourvoirie Kanawata is the correct name.
  23. The map shows that the 4 seasons serves food, maybe we try it there. Which place in St. Felecian our map shows 3 different places to stay? The Roberval stop is still up in the air, we will wait and see what time of day we get to that turn, we may continue to head east if it is early enough. This trip is changing daily due to conditions this year. (I DID A FEW MILES YESTERDAY IN 2 FEET OF POWDER IN SOUTH EAST PA AND I AM WORRIED ABOUT LACK OF SNOW IN QUEBEC!! WHAT THE @#!% IS GOING ON HERE). We will make the best of it our last trip SUCKED, it can only get better.
