Hi Steve.  Mont Laurier region is nice.  Northwest of it in the "Woodrunner" area has good trails and accommodations.

Quebec City to Manior Richelieu on trail 3 is a good ride also but like Iceman said, 3 can get a lot of traffic with the riders going to the casino for the weekend.  Four Points is a nice place to stay.

Chaudiere region also has a lot of options.  We usually stay at Motel Bernieres which is on the south side of the river from Quebec City.  It is about 200 miles to Riviere du Loup from Bernieres.  There are three main trails - 5 typical Quebec trail with a mix of terrain, 35 the famous railbed and 55 a little less traveled than 5 but very nice.  Many accommodations in this area too.

St Zenon can get busy at times.  It was the first area that many people from the States went to and still go there.

I read in your post Lac St Jean is too far.  With that in mind you can disregard this part.  But, if you haven't been there follow along for a minute.  This Thursday we are trucking to St Raymond, northwest of Quebec City, and then sledding to Lac St Jean on Friday.  It is just under 200 miles depending on where you are heading to at the Lac.  We are going to ride Saturday and Sunday out of the hotel and then ride back to St Raymond on Monday.

You didn't mention how many miles you like to do in a day and is it a weekend trip or during the week?  We like in the 175 to 200 miles.  One last thing is to check the groomer map to see what has been groomed.  You're welcome to PM us if you'd like.

    Jack & Sandi

23 from saint ray to LSJ is a super highway type of trail with some of the best scenery in the province and prob groomed more often than any other trail in qc.

easy ride to lsj if u stay away from the weekend Quebec City traffic

2015 Backcountry Etec started the trip with 6580 miles should click 7000 by end of day. 2 strokes are the only way ride! No lead sleds in my immediate future! Also riding solo on this trip . It's my first ride in Quebec and certainly won't be my last. The scenery and terrain are very much to my liking! Sitting in Port Cartier right now having a late lunch . I plan on arriving in Sept Illes this evening not nearly as far as I'd hoped. It's hard to make good time in such hilly terrain, also broke trail for probally 30 miles of the way through 6"-8" of fresh with no signs of recent tracks.

    Godspeed!

u have balls much bigger than mine.

Please listen to the veterans insight posted above.

    FYI

calling for the potential of 40cm of snow in sept iLies.

Well the trip is off to a rough start, sled wouldn't fire up due to cold weather Sunday morning tried to jump start no luck and nothing's open here on a Sunday. I then decided to relocate to Les Coummins and stay at the Complexe Pelchat where services were located nearby. The owner drove me to a parts store where I purchased new battery went back to hotel and installed it yet still wouldn't fire. He was kind enough to help me offload into his heated garage where after 1 1/2,hours  of jumper cables and heat gun on motor was finally able to get it stared. Hit the trail at 11:am arrived in Baie Comeau at 6:pm . Couldn't find lodging with a restaurant or bar that was open rather disappointing for a town of this size.

How was the trail to Baie Come?

As promised in my post 1 hour ago.  I came upon this scene at the 23-83 split down near Lac Vert.  Can anyone guess who just put their new 850, with less than 200 miles on it in the bushes?   I was told, by the owner of the sled,"gee I was only going about 10 mph, I don't understand how this happened".  Upon doing an accident  investigation of the accident scene, I saw where the right ski was on the edge of the trail for over 100 feet which IMO indicated that there was more to this story than I was being told.  A  sobriety test was conducted on scene and it was determined that the rider was sober.  So it was then determined that it was a case of the rider riding over his head.   Who do you think it was?

Extra fuel and a GOOD tow strap, a sense of humor, half the clothes and twice the money...

Pack Half the clothes you think you will need.

ive been known to get more than my share of miles out of a pair of undies.

burn the tread right off them and toss them in garbage when a toxic level is reached.

plan in advance with ur group so ur not bringing duplicate essentials for repairs and safety.

road flares are the most effective way to start a fire if needed.

a good group or partner should be at the top of the list
