Steven, have seen the odd picture where people have ridden their sleds right out to the rock. Have you ever been there when that is possible? Also do you know if Table du Roland is going to be open this winter?

Great idea Towing.
Many will know where these pictures are from. This was a trip last February. Unfortunately they don’t groom the east -west trail that leads to the cave from the local trail that runs north and south. So have to ride a few km of ungroomed moguls. Was reading they are trying to discourage people from visiting the cave.

If going up to Lac St Jean would be good if you could include Trail 373 that runs north of the lake. Beautiful ride across there and can see the new bridge that opened last year. Otis Nature is a good place to stay on the east end near trail 373 if it worked into your loop.Last winter we stayed in the newer chalet, had 5 beds in the bottom floor then there is a seperate apartment on second floor, not sure how many beds.

Had to rework our trip after the Chic Choc being closed.
Means we will run the north shore twice but l would rather do that than run the south shore. Just need LaCahe to pull through for me to make the plan work. Contacted LaCache via email, they are renovating 6 rooms. Not sure if this is part of the new construction or not? Taking names right now, confirming reservations sometime in the future.
lf LaCache doesn’t work out then we would have to depart Copper, across north shore then down 595 to LaFrancis. 400 km, would be a long day if trails and weather aren’t perfect.

What a disappointment. I just finished booking our Gaspe trip a few days ago and the Chic Choc trail was part of our route.
l can’t even picture any bridges of any significance across there. The interior trails helped to disperse some of the traffic doing the Gaspe. Going to make the perimeter loop busy. Bad for,the Copper Hotel also, Jack wasn’t very happy last winter, this sure won’t help.

I think i might have scared this guy off with my questions. No call back.
Would be interesting to know the facts.
Also be interesting to compare the funding models between Ontario and Quebec.Fortunately for all of us the Quebec model seems to work. Incredible the $$$ spend on infrastructure like the bridges build the last several years and other trail improvements.

I’m having a hard time understanding the dollars paid for right away? Is it implying the city of Sagueneay is donating $200,000 a year to the club so they will groom to the city to bring in the tourism dollars?
I don’t like to criticize clubs because l don’t know the facts but we were through Mont Valin area twice last February and early March and the grooming wasn’t up to normal Quebec standards and the weather had been ideal for good trail conditions. I’m only guessing the club is likely short of help to operate groomers the amount of hours needed for a busy area. -

If it’s nice weather the day you ride from Mont Joli to Village Grand Nature when you get to the 595 take a run south down it for 15 miles to ride through the Chic Choc. One of the most scenic sections of the Gaspe. Then turn around and head back up to trail 5.
From hotel Plante to Baie Blue will be a long haul if you have the wives with you.
Especially if you plan on going to Perce Rock. LaFrancis Hotel in New Richmond would be a good spot if looking to shorten that day up some.

I have been trying to look at the New Brunswick trail site but it is not up and running for the season yet.
The NB map site has been available all summer. It just went down Wednesday night. I was in the middle of planning a week long NB trip.
l just emailed the NB federation to see when it will be online again. Hopefully soon .

Last two years we have done a 6 day New Brunswick/Gaspe tour.
Here is one option for a route. Will see all of the most scenic parts of the Gaspe. Miss out on Perce Rock but l don’t find it the highlight of the trip.
We were in the Gaspe last week of February this year and it was very busy. All hotels were full. Going again mid February this year and will book ahead. Rather not but not safe if requiring multiple rooms during prime season.Another route option in NB: we start in Edmunston, head north to Moose Valley then on to Campellton. That’s a nice one day ride. At Campellton you can take the shuttle (Mundle’s Towing ) to get across the bridge into Quebec. Was $50 a sled last year.
On the map l’m showing not crossing at Campellton but taking the 587S trail up to Amqui. I really like that ride. Then take the orange trail down to NB which will hook up with the NB trail leading to Moose Valley, NB.
200 miles a day in the Gaspe is a full day, mid February the days are short. 200 miles is what we do on the guys trip. On couple trips we aim for 150-175 miles . Find with the wives there is a fine line between a great day vs turning it into a marathon.

Sorry can’t help you out. Been to Moose Valley 4 times but always for lunch. Coming from RDL or when doing a NB trip we start from Edmunston so never works to spend a night there.
l plan and book the lodging for our group trips. Like to stay at Lodges or Outfitters whenever possible but always frustrating when researching options for places with cabins because many of them never list the specific number of beds.
Most the staff there speak good English if you need to call.

I can’t seem to find any information on when open house weekend will be this season. I believe it was mid-January last year. Has it been announced yet?
Haven’t seen anything yet, nothing on the Federation website. Hopefully it’s it’s the same weekend and not later in the winter during one of the prime weekends.
l will avoid planning any trip when the free weekend is on.

Just curious if you seen what the average rates are for this winter? Hoping they are not all crazy high like I've seen this summer elsewhere.
I entered in a one night stay for Feb. 2024 and the $130 is what was posted.
Been expecting Gaspe rate to maybe increase fair bit this winter as they have been fairly cheap compared to other regions of Quebec and things were busy there last winter. -
Playing around on the interactive map today planning some trips and discovered there is a new motel at St Adelme right behind the church and clubhouse. Brand new construction and the reservation link is taking winter bookings.
Great to see a new option in the Gaspe as seem to be losing some of the old regular options.
Will give another option to the Matane area and should be better snow conditions for early and late season lodging vs the shoreline in Matane.
Reasonable rates also at $130.00 a night CAD.
Does anyone know if the clubhouse is open 7 days a week and how late in the evening. Have stopped in there to eat but usually for lunch.

Yes Double Tree has a large lot, will be 20 -30 trucks/trailers park there, most for the week while people are on a saddlebag trip. About a 10 minute drive from the hotel to Old Quebec City. If any in your group haven’t seen Old Quebec City it would be a great spot to spend the evening of your arrival day.
Hotel Roquemont in St Raymond that Iceman suggested is also poplar spot for people starting a saddle bag trip.
We spend two weeks in this area last winter, one week with a group of guys and another with my wife. This winter will likely do the following 5 day loop with another group of guys going counter clockwise.
Day 1: Start from #1, Double Tree, Quebec City or Roquemont, St Raymond to #4 Auberge Eva
Day 2: Auberge Eva riding around west end of Lac St Jean, across the top to #8 Otis Nature Center
Day 3: depart Otis ride through Mont Valin to #10 Hotel Pelchat via the Pelchat trial, #9
Day 4: depart hotel Pelchat, head west taking ferry across Saguenay river, head north up to #14 Delta or someplace that area
Day 5: back to the trucks
Iceman had a good trip report last winter riding around the Lac St Jean/ Saguenay area. He maybe able to post a link to it. Will give you some ideas of the various lodging options.
l really like staying at some of the outfitters and lodges when possible. Only problem is many of them aren’t so flexible for cancellations vs regular hotels. If travelling with 4 people or less can often wing it, get larger groups need to book ahead in many areas.
My wife and l spend two weeks last summer touring NH, Vermont and the Adirondacks on our Spyders. New Hampshire is a beautiful state. One of the best days of riding we ever had was big loop in NH, Mont. Washington was an interesting ride.

Planning a bike trip from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.Looking for a safe place to leave my truck and trailer around Bar Harbor.End of June. Thanks in advance.
You planning on doing the Cabot Trail?
lf taking the ferry from Port Sydney to Port a Basque NFLD the night crossing and renting a cabin is the best use of time.
Wife and l both ride Spyders and have been to the Maritimes 3 times since getting them. Went to Newfoundland once in 2020.

I’m the Gaspe and NB last week. Good snow in Gaspe but nothing like last year.
For snow l would say northern NB the best. Start in Edmunston and head for Moose Valley, spend night at Serpentine lodge and or Island Lake lodge. Could start from RDL possibly.
This week started Tuesday from Shawinigan. Up to Windigo then Otis Nature. Snow is thin around Alma and east end of lake. Very little in the fields. Yesterday rode Mont Valin area, rough choppy trails all day. Paid the surcharge and worst day we had this year.
Riding 373 today north of Lac St Jean, trails are perfect but not a lot of snow even this far north. Won’t survive warmer weather very long.
For scenery l would vote Gaspe, for snow conditions New Brunswick

I sure wish I time clocked from LA ache to this place
Had to have set a personal record
It was that good
Not sure if we left LaCache before or after you guys. Was a rocket ship ride down to New Richmond. Perfect with that bit of fresh snow.
l meant to take the orange 150 trail but skidded pass the junction, don’t know how when only doing the speed limit.😜
Beautiful ride all the way to PLC. I love the trail between Carleton Ser Meur and PLC. -
We arrived in Murdochville tonight. Started from Pointe a La Croix this morning. Trails from there all the way to LaCache were excellent. Chic Choc trails was choppy and rough. Snocross course for 10 km around Mont Lyall where it drifts. Disappointing ride being it was such a beautiful sunny day.
Help planing trip!
