For the US rider going to Quebec its a disaster to be sure. I think it still has a ways to go. Right now there are 2 things really working the C dollar up. First, Canada has the raw material everyone wants. I.E. Oil, natural gas, diamonds, gold, Hydro electricity,grain, minerals. Secondly, Canada is a very stable place to buy from. They sell all their oil and minerals from a country that can be trusted around the globe. Plus, the recent ridiculously high oil price has made the Athabaska oil sands of Alberta go from a Popular Science article 10 yrs ago, to now the equivalent of a modern day Gold rush out there. So.... unfortunately for us American riders, I think the Can$ is gonna head up to at least $1.15US by winters end, but man I hope Im wrong!!! Lets all hope for a real good winter, then the prices wont seem so bad!!

I believe Bernard has mentioned that it will be open again. I think a Club on the LSJ end will groom south to Lac Edourd and the La Tuque Club will groom from 73 North to Lac Ed. Bernard, please Pipe in if Im wrong on this.............

I totally agree. I gave up hand signals years ago. For one, I like having both hands on the bars when other sleds approach, and, you have to assume that there is always a sled coming at every blind corner or hill top. My only exception is warning of possible dangers to riders behind me that may be daydreaming in the snowdust. I'll also give a last sled signal on a trail thats only one sled wide (Hills,bridges,etc) l

Yeah, 4 yrs ago I bought machines in QC and had them delivered to my House in NH for far less money than they were selling down here. I love how our Governments have bought into the free mkt economy, but when Joe Q citizen wants to save a few bucks and shop elsewhere, they wont allow it. Prices for virtually everything in Canada should be 40% lower than 3 yrs ago based on the C$ value, but it sounds to me like nothings changed at all, and when you take your high value currency elsewhere they wont allow it... Can you say TEA PARTY???!!!

Wow!! This is all wicked confusing.... So, being a resident of NH, when I get a sticker here, thats a registration and a Trail Pass for NH?? All, for I think, about $47 bucks. But, stay with me now, when I pay $250 for a QC trail pass, Im not registered and I need another $75 to register? :sad: And to register anywhere I need a title for my sled. WTF? I have 3 machines I own and have never had titles for any of them. :sad: Maybe Im not following along, but I've ridden QC for 10 yrs, sometimes with the NH sticker on my hood and recently not, cause Snowmobiling down here is over. Never once have any of us had an issue, but obviously from the posts, it seems like thats all changed. So....., Im looking for the cheapest Legal way to ride QC in Peace.

Well its definitly gonna hurt to pay a little more this year, but lets be serious.... After all the money we have spent on trucks, sleds ,and gear, are you really going to ride them in New England? I mean come on, it wasnt that good in N. New England even when it used to snow. The last time riding down here was good was before I made my first trip to Quebec. Its kinda like comparing the Carribean with Hampton Beach. So, Im still going to ride the Q. I may have to bring along canned beer and some food to save a few bucks, but I'll be there.

I cross at Stanstead on 91/55 about 10 times a year. Half the time I have my passport and 1/2 Ive forgotten it. The worst time I ever had was with my son, showed both passports coming back into US. They had me pull off and remove both sled covers with a nice 25 mph wind at about 10 below F! I think they were just trying to torture us. The US border officer didnt offer 1 finger to help. So......, the passports amounted to nothing that day. And I'll leave it at that. Rob started this site for "Quebec Snowmobiling" , not politics.

So if Im in Quebec and the threat level goes red..... It means I'll have to stay and Snowmobile and not go back to work!!! Boy, wouldnt that be terrible.

From, Mass, NH, Vt take I-91 to 55North to 20 East then 73N over the bridge at Q City. Follow signs in Q City to Rt175 toward Chicoutimi. I believe this is the fastest route. Its 8 hrs from Central NH.

I use an El-cheepo HJC, not sure which one, with a heated shield. It cost $150 total. Originally plugged it into the dash mount plug on my Polaris XC. It was OK for days of 10F and above, but on cold mornings it was fogging a bit. Then I found the hot and ground for the headlites and what a difference. I can pant like a Saint Bernard at -20F and not a bit of fog. Another plus- when its super cold and you want no air getting in the helmet, I tape all the vents over. And with this headlite hook up I still get zero fogging. The only drawback is you have to have someone in your party give you an uppercut to get your helmet off at the 1st Relay stop!!

Yeah its not good news for Americans riding in Quebec thats for sure. The real strange part is that despite the Canadian dollar going up 40% in the last 3 years, everything in Quebec still costs 25-30% more than the states. One would think since the $Can. dollar has gained so much, Canadians would be paying less. I just dont get it.

I believe thats along 355, south of La Tuque, on the infamous "Pipeline trail".

Rob and Bill- This sites only a month old and its already awesome. A huge thanks for doing this. Ive ridden in Quebec 10 yrs now, and every year it becomes more and longer visits. I cant get even slightly interested in riding back home any more. Its already obvious this site will be the go-to for Quebec riding info and trip sharing. Its only early September and the photos are driving me nuts!! So... I just signed up tonite and enjoying it greatly. -Tom
