Kel Posted March 3, 2010 Report Share Posted March 3, 2010 Started on Sunday from La Cabanon in St. Zenon to Parent...Trails were good to very good with plenty of snow but warm. From Parent to Seneteer ....Trails around Clova and Balbuzard were a little rough...Still warm. Seneteer to LaSarre trails were great. A bit colder. Took a tour to touch Onterio just to say we did. On to Chibougamou on Thurs. Kel If your staying in Matagami keep an eye on your sleds. Some SOB stole our BRP emblems. Sleds were parked right out side our rooms. If you see anybody walking around Matagami with BRP emblems hanging on a gold chain tell them we would like them back. Kel, do you think the trails are doable next week? We know we are pushing it a little, but this is the only time we could get our group together... I haven't been watching the weather since I got home, but as long as they didn't have a terrible warm up and it was going below freezing at night you should have plenty of snow. There were no bare spots at all in that area last week. If I were you I would check the weather and try to call some of clubs whose trails you will be riding on. We are in Chibougamou now. -5 C going down to -19C tonight and calling for -3C for Friday day. Sun was hot today but the trails held up very well. bare roads and parking lots, but the trails have plenty of snow. We are trying to get to Relay 22 tomorrow. Heard Roberval is almost bare dirt. If 83 is bad, we may also start above Latuque and hit 93 west. I was checking mileage from Pennsylvania and it is only 14 hours to Val-d'Or, and the roads are not bad... Hopefully they have secure parking. If trails are OK, we will head counter-clockwise on 83 to Roberville, then return on 93. If trails are beat, we likely take 93 to Roberville, then backtrack (which I hate to Do!). Scorpionbowl, maybe we will see you. The Question is what do you do from 22? 83 west has ~10-15 miles of probably dirt road in to Wemo, and 73 to LaTuque is also probably bad. We still hope to make the loop if possible, and will start out on 83 heading East on Sunday am. Cleaning up the sled tonight, can't wait for Sunday!! Scorpionbowl, Don't worry about about getting into Wemo, they now have a trail that runs pretty much aside of the road the whole way. Sometimes you still have to jump on the road for maybe a hundred feet to get around a stream or something but when we went through they had tons of snow and at that time the road was only plowed for the first few miles from town out. Didn't get a pic but they are building some huge building aside of the gas station. Maybe a casino Good luck on your trip and have fun. We just went on the same trip as Kel and I was thinking the very same thing ...wondering how to get back to their trucks at Cabanon from Relay 22...they will probably ride back toward the West and come down 345 then just deal with the last 25 miles across the hydro dam...they certainly do not want to try 33...that hill behind Montgnard in St Michelle is not even worth trying....for sure they got the very best of what was left in a terrible season. When you leave town heading west you do have to run on the edge of the road for about a mile or so it's not great but but nothing to worry about, and of course crossing the 1 lane vehicle bridge has nothing on it as usual. Kel Posted March 7, 2010 Author Report Share Posted March 7, 2010 Just got back late last night. Relay 22 to La Cabanon was not as bad as expected. Around Wamatchi was a little thin with some bare roads but enough for some lube on the sides. Some bare spots down the 345 trail to the barrage and a few past the barrage into LaCabanon but nothing bad at all. On the way home in the truck there were 2 sleds right in front of us that road the road from the Bistro for about 1/2 mile...never saw a sled throw so much black smoke (belt or slides or both) Kel Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
