  1. Jim first Shane is right you can alot of resources on the Gaspesie website which you can link from the fcmq along with all the other regions. It's a little late to get a map sent to you by mail but most business places will have a copy esp. motels, gas stations and clubhouses. There are many motels and for the most part very easy to access by trail, that's how they make their living in the winter so they try to make it easy have fun and give us a report.
  2. Yea and I tell ya the next time I have to go to LaTuque from Relay 22 I just may go that way. Maybe do a little welding
  3. sounds good did it seem they were prepared to be open all winter? How were the trails?
  4. Hi Linda why not both? Devil's Mountain to St. Zenon and back round trip about 325mi. used to be quick I don't know though once the Mont Tremblant park is closed.
  5. That is true as many people want to say they have stayed in Chibougamau. I have stayed at the Nordic twice and once at a more fancy one of which the name escapes me right now. The latter one we were summoned to the front desk a half hour after arriving by the police asking us what time we were leaving in the morning because they wanted to escort us to the trail. The motel was a block down the street from the Yamaha dealer and back in the 2 stroke days we were always on the lookout for a dealer to get some injector oil (don't miss that) we went to the dealer and back on the road (hey there was snow on it) and they didn't like it. Imagine a town that was frontiered in something like 1957 and further from Montreal by car than I am here in my house in PA and they were worried about a few sleds on the road. Heck we figured up there thats how they get around. Anyway we told them 7:30 they said wait for an escort so the next morning standing around in our suits and helmets at 7:35 we said heck to this, they never called so I guess we did alright. But I did stay in Chapais once I think they have 2 motels the one we were at was nice nothing fancy, but the nice thing is if you don't have any need to go to Chibougamau proper it saves you like 15 or 20 miles.
  6. Gutz are you kidding, never been to the Gaspe? Wow are you in for a treat, some of the best riding and scenery in all of Quebec and the food is superb as well. You will not be disappointed.
  7. X2 Jack, I think Alain has pics of every square foot of the Lanaudiere region somewhere in his file. Thanks Alain again for the pics and the info. I know that trail probably wouldn't be groomed ever just wondering where it goes and how far it really is to Windigo. Probably now you will wonder that same thing as you pass now that I put that thought in your head. The guy that runs the groomer in that area is named Christian and he lives very close to that intersection where you said it's not marked. By car it would be off the river Rats road and if you can picture it you cross that road shortly up the trail from that intersection. That is the same road that forms part of the T from Repos toward Chateauvert. I like to try and figure out where all those roads go up there many people don't realize just how close things are to each other like Casey is to Wemotaci I think by road it is only 33 miles (and quick if it's snow covered)
  8. Thanks, that shouldn't be a problem I figure with my Apex I can go about 130mi. and my wife has a vector and that can go all day so we should be good. Years ago when I had my Vmax 4 we used to make it to Chateuvert by carrying 1 gal. with and dumping it in when we got 10 or 15 miles out. I sure wish they would have designed these things with a bigger tank 9 1/2 gal. is like a step back.
  9. Thanks for the heads up on Chateavert, if that is not open with gas then you almost have to go to Repos so I suspect they will not run the old trail up through the burn from Dam Gilardo. If they have the the trail on the road leaving Repos they must not be running the log trucks through, hopefully they are not running on the river aux Rats road either then we can run the summer road all the way to Kanawata's driveway. We have done this run in the past from Le Cabanon by going down toward St. Michel and getting on the lake at the campground then off at Canadventure up 33 to Repos the road all the way to Kanawata and on to Casey all before noon. I have a couple questions maybe you can find out on the french forums 1) Did they ever finish the new road from Casey to toward Parent? The guy at Casey told us about it a couple years ago I am not sure if it comes out at Parent or further south. 2) Does anyone know if it is still possible to get to the outfitter Windigo by taking the trail right by Dam Gilardo? If you can picture where I mean it's just as you get to the dam instead of making the hard left to go around the dam this trail goes straight. I have never ventured on it but have seen some signs years ago and heard it could be done but lots of lake running.
  10. I like the part of the video near the end where it shows a whole group of sleds going by and not one stops at the stopsign reminds me of my 17 year old daughter when she says the stopsigns with the white border are only optional
  11. Better to ride with the devil you know than the devil you don't. 25yrs some marriages don't even last that long. "most"
  12. Thanks for the report it's good when someone has been on the trails recently so we can get real life conditions. We are planning on making a trip up and right now are leaning toward the Gaspe. We will be coming up on the 22nd a little late for the winter gathering but some of our group have work obligations. We pretty much want to go where the best conditions are.
  13. Thank's for the report and pics Alain! I was waiting for your report and it is starting to look good. Did you by chance see where the 369 is running this year. Sometimes you have to go through Repos and sometimes you can catch it off 345 near Dam Gilardo sometimes both. My father and a couple guys plan on coming up next weekend so I will show him your most recent pics. Let's hope it stays cold and gives a little snow. --Rick
  14. Thanks for the report, sounds like things are continuing to improve.
  15. I agree with blue yamaha, until everything is 100% marked, groomed and connected. The best way is to find out conditions from someone on the ground, I have already contacted the club president if I couldn't find any good trail reports.
  16. The last time I did that trail I was turning in my sleep. That is one of those trails that if you are the leader you enter every turn feeling like you have a target on your hood. By the way anyone hear if Relay 22 was sold, I heard it was for sale again.
  17. Yea for sure, never good to lose a trail hopefully they come up with a reroute.
  18. Too bad for anyone that uses that trail often, I myself try to avoid that slalom course.

    La Cabanon

Can't think of his name either but I know he has a thing for '87 SRV's. I have been keeping my open for one down here but they are pretty beat up.
  21. Yea for sure iceman, esp. for the guys coming from chapais down. They are coming in blind and if they pass Waswanipi expecting to stop at Miquelan they will be in trouble. Hopefully the Chapais club would post a warning in this case.

If you have to go back to LeCabanon every night then Casey will be a stretch. Depending on your route figure about 300 miles round trip to Casey. If you can stay out over night Kanawata is a great stop, be sure to call ahead sometimes they get groups in and book up-- Mario is the manager. My wife rides with me most times and I try not to hit her with too many 300 mile days, she does pretty good up to about 250 then she starts getting tired. One thing that is nice about LeCabanon is the pool and hot tub when you get back. My wife has been going with me to Quebec for 17 years now and she has grown to like the saddlebag trips better. When we are on a saddlebag trip if we hit some bad trails or we are getting tired we just stop, but if we have to get back to a certain motel sometimes that last 30 miles is tough. Good luck
