  1. Great convenient place to park and stay or tour. Charged us 10 bucks a day to leave the truck........Great Deal. The place may have been built in the 70s but its first class compared to the majority of places in Quebec. Similar to the HI in jonquier. We had a great trip in December with great conditions. The club really did a nice job this year marking the trails and lakes with the early onset of winter.
  2. This guy seems to have potential to be a folk hero.........Same category as saguenay bill or Paul Bunyan.
  3. Looking forward to your reports.................
  4. Jacket was awesome. Rode two days in the rain and never got wet. You don't appreciate a wonderful jacket until you get one. Now I understand how you guys can ride at -20 and have a good time. Bill (I don't even know what kind it is but I'll be getting the matching pants for my birthday, vtines days or something)...........we can work a behind the scenes deal since you have my wifes contact info........I'll give a more detailed report.......Trying to cover all my bases with management. We did saddebag and the new ski doo is awesome. Perfect for me at 6'3............3000 dollars less than my nytro and 100% better. Oh how nice it is to be able to turn on rails. Very responsive and predictable. be in touch, BJ
  5. Rode 700 miles from the 26-31. Conditions at esteral, st. donat, st micheal des saints, la tuque, shawinigan, st come, tremblant outstanding. All lakes were frozen and staked, base is great, and rain did no damage. Didn't make it to st jean due to rain. I'll post pics shortly
  6. Trails were great this week. Plenty of snow, lakes are frozen, nice solid base. Rain did no damage. Rode st donat, la tuque, st come, shawinigan etc didn't make it to st jean due to the rain. Post details shortly
  7. Courtesy of Zenwaiter Quebec brace for 'snowmageddon' DIANA MEHTA December 19, 2008 They're calling it "Snowmageddon." Environment Canada is warning residents in Ontario, Quebec and the eastern provinces to prepare for a series of storms starting today. "It's the unrelenting nature of you get hit, get a break, and get hit again," said Geoff Coulson, a meteorologist with Environment Canada. The Windsor area will be the first hit as snow falling across Southern Ontario and some of Quebec this morning continues until early evening. The low-pressure system will continue moving east through the day, Mr. Coulson said. Print Edition - Section Front Enlarge Image More National Stories Wrongfully imprisoned, denied closure and dying Doctor sees ripples of hope in the gene pool Man shot dead by police had bipolar disorder Espionage fears cost woman second civil-service job Mayor's finance elves busy trying to balance budget Province wanted higher beer price, papers show Go to the National section Saturday will be clear, providing an opportunity for weekend travel, before the snow starts to fall yet again with a second storm on Sunday, he added. Early Monday morning will signal the end of the storms in Ontario for the moment, he said, but temperatures in the GTA will dip down to -20 with the wind chill. Montreal and Ottawa are likely to receive just a dusting today, but will see more snow from Sunday's storm. The Ottawa Valley is being warned of low visibility and more chilly temperatures, Mr. Coulson said. Quebec City and PEI will also receive some snow as Sunday's storm moves toward the ocean. Toronto is likely to receive up to 15 centimetres of snow today and another 15 cm on Sunday, with varying periods of blowing and drifting snow. Surrounding areas such as Mississauga, Oakville and Burlington on the western lakeshore could receive up to 25 cm by the end of the day. But Toronto officials say they're prepared to battle the storms. "We're ready for it," said Peter Noehammer, director of city transportation services, adding that GTA residents were encouraged to take transit during the storms. According to Mr. Noehammer, salting and plowing operations will start early this morning and continue until evening, when cleanup activities begin on main roads and local streets. Crews will clear today's snowfall by Saturday, just in time for Sunday's dumping. "We'll be running continually for much of the weekend," Mr. Noehammer said. Brockville, Ont., a city within dumping range of the storms, isn't daunted by the forecast, according to public works supervisor Russ Fraser. "Unless we get 40 or 50 centimetres, it's not going to be anything out of the ordinary," he said, adding that regular snow-operations crews would still be on standby all weekend. The Maritimes and Newfoundland will feel the effects of the storms on Monday as the systems move further east. According to Mr. Coulson, Maritimers might have to shovel up to 30 cm of snow at the start of next week. "We are prepared for winter here and if the storm comes we'll deal with it," said Paul Mackey, director of public works with the city of St. John's. According to Mr. Mackey, the city's winter has been unusually mild so far, but snow crews were nonetheless ready to jump into action when needed. Meanwhile, the western provinces will get away with just a few flurries but will continue to experience a bone-chilling deep freeze. Alberta is set to experience a high of only -24 this weekend, with temperatures at least eight degrees colder than normal lows for this time of the year, Mr. Coulson said. But the weekend storms aren't the end of the story. Another brewing weather system could bring more prolonged snow to Southern Ontario on Tuesday and Wednesday, Mr. Coulson said. "It almost seems like this parade of lows is inexhaustible," he said.
  8. Bill, I would drive if my old lady would let me stay for two months..........Twenty years younger, cmon How old is ultra? He must have a nicer old lady! Looking forward to seeing you soon. PS I was offered to open my xmas present tonight and I declined, didn't want to give in to the anticipation. We will drive to the HI if we cant get there by trail! Have at least three trips planned.......Good year this year.
  9. We stayed at esteral early season last year and the signage was a disaster with all the lakes in the area. Great mid year area but early season could be a f story. Not a lot of local riders. New snow with no signs makes things extremely difficult if not very familiar with the area. Just an fyi from someone with experience. Great facility!
  10. Ultra, Do you drive all the way to the HI from PA......... We are from Scranton. We are heading up the same time frame, usually like to park much closer and saddlebag up to the HI. Drove once and it was torture..... Realizing that it is early season, we just play it day by day. Probably bump into you during the week. Best of luck, BJ
  11. If you would be kind enough to keep us posted if the network opens. We are strongly considering your area if the mileage is there. BJ
  12. Appreciate the reply. I really have lost brand loyalty. Started on cats since the early 70's. Buddies were polaris........Transitioned to skidoo with the rev chassis and due to forward style andlack of back fatigue. Tough to ride 200-300miles with the old style. Back takes a beating. Went to Yamaha for the fact of the engine durability. I like the seating position and bought on a whim. The TNT has the old 600 motor. Bullet proof..........We have three of them. Once the bugs are worked out of the skidoo fourstroke will probably give that a try.
  13. MidRange......How many miles of trail are accessible in your area. We like to saddlebag and don't like to be locked in...Planning a trip between xmas and new years. Your outlook and recommendations would be greatly appreciated
  14. I don't care what kind of riding you do.........It was a piece of shit riding around the farm in pa, on tug hill, and in quebec. I figured I would give the four stroke forward rider position a shot.
  15. We have a four slip trailer and there is usually space. If conditions permit between xmas and new years we plan on heading up for four days. Could be space...........I'll keep you posted I live in Moscow....50 mins from you and on the way.
  16. Rob, One of the special sections on the old site that many of us really looked forward to was Rob's Trip Photos and details. I was going to get a petition started to bring that back..........Im sure it won't take much on this site to garner enough support. Happy Holidays, BJ
  17. Phil, Let us know when your group is planning trips....Would love to get the opportunity to meet you guys. BJ
  18. Mike, It is an 09 so all the bugs should be worked out. Got the high windshield mirrors, and a 12v for the GPS. We have several trips planned. Lets make an effort to get togethter. BJ
  19. Gave Yamaha a try with the 08 Nytro. Great sled for straight trails with gradual turns............If you have to turn its a piece of %$#(. Did everything in my power to make it work. Every adjustment possilble. The sled really felt unsafe. I happened to run into the yamaha reps as I was picking up my TNT and they tried to give me recommendations on what I can buy to make it better. My opinion when I spend 10 grand for a new machine is that I shouldn't have to buy anything to make the sled satisfactory. I heard all about the changes for the 09. Yamaha lost a cutomer that buys a new sled every year. It will take a hell of alot to get me off of a DOO. The nytro has potential, but the weight and handling and gas tank weren't conducive for the type of riding we like to do in quebec. Really looking forward to the upcoming season, the gas prices, favorable exchange rate, and comaraderie of the "Quebec Riders". Happy Holidays! The scranton crew have at least three trips planned this season. See you on the trails! BJ
  20. Phil, Just got back this weekend. Trails were fabulous. Our best trip ever with warmer temps and flat trails. In the 900 plus miles there were only 20 miles of poor trails. Tons of Snow
  21. Whats the conversion factor on that gas mileage? Looks like a nice option for next year........
  22. Im the brother............... No significant problems. The front end is tweaked slightly without hitting anything. It appears there is a recurring problem with the subframe on the Nytro's. Doesn't noticeably effect my ride. My only issue with the Nytro is in the cornering. Seems top heavy and the ski's don't like to stick to the ground. I've tinkered with everything and it definetly got better. Went back and forth with my buddy riding the rev and nytro, both agreed the rev is much easier to ride through the (tight windy tughill secondary trails) corners. Less work and almost a feeling of security. At times I almost feel unsafe on the Nytro through the corners. Its very unpredictable. My last attempt is to get heavier springs in the rear end. Im 250 and at the highest setting I bottom out quit often. Hopefully it will help with the weight transfer when hitting the throttle...... The sled has tons of torque and the skis want to leave the ground when on the gas. Limiter is tightened three slots................... Motor is great. Fit and finish is great. Seating position is A1 for a bigger person although Seat is a little hard as with the xp. Overrall Im satisfied with the purchase
