  1. 250 mile day today to Rimouski and lunch at the very nice Domain Valgra.  Rimouski to Squatc we had a 3 or 4 hour blizzard with high winds and very poor visibility and up to 5 inches of new snow. Dusting in RDL. There is a ton of snow depth in the area around Domain Valgra. Great day but tiring from mileage and visibility. Last 50 miles trails hard and fast but temps dropped fast. All the things that can happen in a day of riding.  Great happy hour back at the hotel with PADragon, Jak, and Motonick.

  2. Motonick and I headed west and zigzagged various blue, green and orange trails to Hiboux club house for a late breakfast. Food was great.  (awesome homefries and toast). Onward to St. Pamphile ( restaurant closed today ), green trail east over the  mountain and returned. Steady but not a fast day, but got in 200 miles  between 8:30 and 3:00.

Most trails very nice shape, few small stutters in a few short sections and couple reroutes slow going for short sections. Picked up and inch or two of snow overnight and today. Saw only a handful of sleds all day.

Quite a few sleds showing up at motel today considering its Monday.

New sled hit the 2,000 mile mark today.

  3. Today Motonick and I did a 200 mile loop over to Tois Pistales for coffee and to Cabano for lunch. Really enjoying Mike's Restaurant in Cabano since we discovered it.  Trails were silky smoother the entire loop and traffic was very low for a Sunday.

I am falling in love with the new "25 MXZ X 600R 129.  The updated front end and skis are the huge improvement over previous Doo's. Its a bit of a bear on early morning well set up groomed trails, but as soon as traffic breaks up the top surface snow a little, it handles like a sports car.  It rails around corners with no front end push.  Really fun!!!  Mid range is stronger than last years exact same sled and uses about a gallon less fuel at each fill up than the '24. Not sure I would ever go back to the 137 track and couldn't be happier with the two stroke engine. The X model rides so much better than the 900 ACE Adrenaline Renegades.

  4. Trails today were smooth and fast and set up hard from this cold snap. Jack and I headed west for 40 miles then south down to Cabano. Lunch at Mike's was excellent.

The short cut trail tfrom the hotel hrough the tunnels and along the St. Lawrence was mostly very nice,,,except the tunnels. The very steep 15 foot hill down to the tunnel  is a sheet of ice. We were able to get just a little to the right of ice to get brake traction as you want to enter the tunnel at about 2 mph.  Coming from the other direction, I doubt you could make the icy hill goiing up.  Just remember there is a way to avoid the tunnels, but quite a bit of tar going across all the highway entry/exit ramps.

Southern area around Cabano that was good last trip but thin on snow is now more snow and fine, just as Iceman had posted. Couple reroute trails in that area are now better with the extra snow.

  5. Today  we went East to Rimouski with the idea of looping back thru Squatec via 35..  We had heard there may be a problem with 35 east of Squatec from flooding. A Canadian made a call for us and confirmed 35 still closed, road washed out. When we got almost to Rimouski,  the first right turn to get to 35 was closed. We came back to RDL via 5 and some green trails. All perfectly groomed and mid winter conditions.   Looks like mid February. Just Fantastic riding.   200 miles.

Big Lake<          Cabano has enough snow but is not much snow. I would advise not going south below Chavellier Frontier club house and guessing below Cabano may??? be too thin.

No clubs open, thank you club Moulan for the Refuge room and coffee machine.

Yesterday we ate at Mike's in Cabano and was excellent. Today Tim Horton's and  that was really good food.

  6. Arrived at RDL this afternoon and had time for a 20 mile spin to check out the trails.

Just enough snow the first couple miles and more snow out of town. Great going and the trails were groomed and smooth. Most trails showing closed or yellow so not sure how the big loops will go.

Came up through Jackman, Maine this morning. Once crossing the border I saw groomed trails here and there and people out riding. Looks to be enough snow until I got near the St.  Lawrence. Very thin from below QC to 2/3 the way to RDL and then it go better. Tons of sleds at the RDL clubhouse.

Will know more as the days progress.

  7. The RDL WebCam looks like the area is white with snow, and a big storm is coming through over the next couple days.

Start getting things together folks. As soon as the RDL area clubs show green, its time to hit the road. ( I watch Sledmagazine web site, click on tourism and Bas St Laurent area, scroll down to the club reports ).   Maybe???? Sunday????.

  8. lol,  I've been in the old Tahoe, this was one of those extra long work vans previous to the Tahoe.

Another time got to the pick up spot (Hotel Colibri?) around 8 PM.  Had to wait 3 hours for the driver to get back from a party to take us south across the river. Arrived at my truck around 4 AM at the club house in Beauceville, the club that wants your truck key while you're away in case they need to move it for snow plowing. Of course the club was closed. Luckily I had my spare  truck key on me just in case this happened.

  9. I used to run this area frequently a couple decades ago. It is well organized and signed and groomed often. More road crossings in this area, but also lot of field riding. A couple inches of snow overnight along with wind, and the fields can get pretty drifted. But I liked the area for riding. I usually stayed in Montmagney.
