hi mcstar !!!

this could be your answer !!!!

QUEBEC CITY, Oct. 21, 2014 / CNW Telbec / -. As of December 15, all winter tires installed on a passenger vehicle registered in Québec must wear the symbol representing a bunk flake to a mountain. This symbol shows that a tire was tested in winter conditions.
The Regulations on the use of tires specifically designed for winter driving came into force in 2008. The transitional period between 2008 and 2014 was to allow passenger vehicle owners who need to purchase winter tires seek those bearing the symbol to meet the definition which takes effect this year.
Specify a studded tire remain recognized as a tire designed for winter driving if used in accordance with the Regulations on the use of slip on the tires of certain vehicles.
"The presence of a winter tire pictogram recognized by law is a guarantee of safety. However, a survey found that only 44% of motorists verify compliance winter tires they buy (SOM April 2014). I encourage road users to be vigilant in ensuring with their retailer or mechanic that they buy tires comply with the requirements set out in the Code of road safety, "said Transportation Minister Robert Poëti.
To support this message, the Ministry yesterday diffuse messages on television and on the web recalling this requirement which comes into force on 15 December. Users of the Montreal area will also be informed via Radio Circulation 730 AM.
Collaboration retailers
In addition to his information campaign, the Department distributed a poster and a leaflet from retailers and garages to remind the requirement that takes effect this year and encourage them to properly advise their clients.
"The Association of Tyre specialists and Mechanics of Quebec (ASPMQ) will continue its collaboration with the Ministry of Transport to encourage all traders to take seriously their responsibilities in terms of prevention and information to their clients. It is our duty to adequately inform consumers, "said Patrick Boivin, president of the ASPMQ.
More information can be obtained on the terms applicable to winter tires and check the FAQs on the subject www.mtq.gouv.qc.ca.

X2 I have done that for years years. It can be quite sketchy at times. All Terrain/All Season tires are about useless in snow/ice when thay are below 3/4 to 1/2 tread. I put winter rated tires on both of our vehicles this fall.
