  1. Heater ?  Don't disappoint us :  ) .  All these years we thought you were roughing it, a real rugged - tough mountain man.

Ski Doo only gives us heated hand grips and thumb warmer. Maybe the more fortunate a heated seat, or some with a larger windscreen.

Next Christmas you are probably going to ask for a heated steering wheel to add to the enclosed cab, wipers, defroster, headlights, motor in lieu of mules, etc. The  nerve of you :  ) Just think of what we would save on our annual permit prices if you just sacrificed two of those non-essential accessories.  Be careful of providing us with to much information. With all the movements/protests going on in the world they just might set up a demonstration / roadblock on a trail near you.

Thanks again JG for what you do for the sport & us - over & above.

    Bonne Année 2018   :   )

Nice looking trucks Teet F8S + nyskidooerinnewhampshire!

No doubt that the GMC/Chevy2500s w/DuraMax and Ford F250s w/PowerStroke diesels are very nice tow vehicles but I would add some caveats:

    • Unless you are towing something bigger than a 2-place trailer (or a big boat/horse trailer/camper in the off-season) and driving more than ~25k miles/yr its very hard to justify the extra $$.
    • Diesels are built for big miles and unless you use it for that, you definitely won't see a benefit.
    • Diesels require different maintenance and care than gas engines and are best cared for by a mechanic with specialized diesel training. Modern diesels are fairly trouble free but when they aren't running right, most mechanics have no clue.
    • Lastly, an unfortunate fact is that these trucks seem to be a particularly high ranking target for auto thieves in Quebec.

    Agreed.....

I have an 800 mile r/t from home - NYC suburb - to camp in Pittsburg NH and the suburban was not cutting it as far as pulling the 4 place Blizzard enclosed Trailer....Loving the power :  )  - No regrets "yet". I only use the truck for same as we have other cars for everyday errands....

  3. Interesting article. I for one am of the opinion & fully support Quebec safeguarding its primary language first & then a language of your choosing second. I wish the USA would consider the same.  I don't believe in government penalties against those who don't comply but if you migrate you should attempt to learn the language and or when raising a child the child should learn the National Language.  Not always the case here in the States.

Joyeux Noël et ou joyeuses fêtes à tous.....Merry Christmas and or Happy Holidays to all.

  4. Half of that trailer could straddle the border - one half in Quebec, the other in the states. Then you & your brothers could go back & forth out each end at will & the customs officer from either Country won't know if you crossed or not ..ha ha ..Very much enjoyed that story....

Congrats on the purchase :   )

    Best of luck ...

I got one as well, looks like a promotional phamplet to sell other insurance.

Agreed.  After reviewing same I came to the same conclusion - selling additional insurance.

Sadly it cost INTACT ASSURANCE $1.50 + -  to mail it to me here in NY.  INTACT ASSURANCE would have been better served if they had donated the mailing expense to the FCMQ.

    Hey Bill,

You've been pretty quiet. Hoping you're hanging in there.

If the doc says no go, that's what second opinions are for!

A number of us were fortunate to ride several 175+- mile days with Bill for several days last week with my family and I parting company Thursday morning with Bill, JD, et al.,   Many thanks to Bill for sharing his "local knowledge". Bill's input certainly added flavor to the visit.

Joe (JAK), Daniel, Colette, Pat, Gary, Gutz brothers, I trust you all arrived home safely. Stay safe. Till next time....(Sadly next year for us)

  7. Unfortunately Paddy O, this is what has happened in many parts of the Eastern Townships due to the lean snow years the last 10yrs. Permissions for former paths have been lost, signage is poor/non-existent, brushing is haphazard. Glad you were able to find your way. Sawyerville used to be an active area but I don't even know if the Sawyerville Hotel is still operating? It's been a few years -

Thank you Vt_bluyamaha54.  When I researched "Hotel Sawyerville" it appears it has transferred ownership multiple times in recent years with the last time in 2016 and is currently named RAMANA HOTEL COMPLEX. It appears to be a boutique / meditation escape / hotel . Aside from one Facebook posting in November 2016 I did not see any association / catering to snowmobiling. The following is a link to the current website. http://www.hotelramana.ca/  and or FB page @  https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=complexe hôtelier ramana     I wish the current investors luck with their venture ,,,,,,,,,

  8. Dropped down from Pittsburg NH to Beecher Falls, Vt. where we entered East Hereford, QC. From there we rode fresh powder - all formerly groomed for the entire 113miles + - . Our objective was to travel 523 to Sawyerville where we would pick up 525 to La Patrie and then onto Chartieville & Pittsburg NH. While traveling on 523 we came to an intersection where a signpost  advised La Patrie was to the right. Subsequently we made the right and followed the directional (arrows) signs as the trail had no number. Well the trail went from steep and wide to a goat path and steeper. Additionally the directional signs became further apart where at times we wondered if we missed a turn off as the snow banks were high. How they formerly groomed the goat path (sled ?) I do not know as it was tight and hilly. It was obvious the trail had been recently cut as remnants of former trees were visible in the middle of the trail...Eventually (*25 miles + -) we dumped out onto trail 525 and turned right - only a few miles outside of La Patrie . The new trail / unnumbered caused us to circumvent Sawyerville in its entirety and roughly 10 less miles than our planned trip. If you choose to take the new trail I suggest you ride with another as we only met one soul (FCMQ Trail Patrol) who  confirmed for us we were going in the right direction and that the trail was recently cut and not yet on the FCMQ map. Had we not met the trail patrol man we would have turned around as we were unsure if we were going in the right direction and off the GPS & paper map. (* Suggested mileage - guessed - could be more - could be less.)

both Montana GPS were reset in my driveway this am. Mine reads 508km for the day, Snohorse Gps same exact one says 360 miles? Whats up with that he followed me the whole way. Strange. His Odo on the 1200 says 315 miles, 508 km is 315 miles. So what gives?

Snohorse darted off for a cold beer w/o you :  ) . Don't you hate when your riding partner does that ? Safe travels.

  10. Hazardous winter conditions are expected. Snowfall amounts between 25 and 50 centimetres are expected Thursday. A developing low pressure system will move up the American Eastern Seaboard today and become a major storm over Eastern Quebec following its rapid even explosive development. Snow will begin this morning however storm conditions will intensify this evening through Friday morning. In addition to rapidly accumulating snow, strong winds will generate blowing snow. The storm will cause large waves in the St Lawrence Estuary, the Gulf of St Lawrence and Chaleur Bay. This could cause problems locally in some coastal regions during high tides on Friday. ### Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.cpiq_tempetes-qspc_storms.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports to #meteoqc.
