  1. Well, it looks as if we have a "tie" then........ If you look at this link to the current temps in USA & Canada it looks like somewhere north of Lac St Jean it is currently -54 http://vortex.plymouth.edu/uschill.gif Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
  2. Yes I heard the law is for Quebecers only. Also heard there was a "shortage" in the province as they are dealing with this new law. I bet the tire companies are "rubbing" one off (no pun intended) over this one!!!
  3. I am trying to find out where to buy those quarter sized LED lights that are red or green colors that I see people have on their helmets (or shields??) that indicate whether there are other people in your group or not. I am having no luck whatsoever finding them on the internet. I am not talking about the "Lead Dog" helmet mounted spotlight thing nor the CSS led light box that you mount to your handlebar. I have seen more and more people riding the last two years with these smaller LED's (red and green color) and they are either in the corner of their visor or just outside of it mounted on the helmet. If anyone knows what this system is called and where to locate one it would be much appreciated!!!
  4. Andy- Unfortunately I'm not going to make it. Would have loved to have been there. I will be arriving at Andre's parents next saturday the 17th for a week of fun. Ride safe and HAVE A BLAST!!!!! Chris
  5. For what it's worth.....I have always found the "Abitibi" region (Val dor, Amos, Rouyn) area to be the best riding in mid-late March. It takes longer in the season for them to pile up the snow but it seems to last later over there. Traffic is virtualy "nill" and everything is still open groomed and signed. And the trails dont come any flatter or faster than this area too!!!
  6. I'll second that !!! The middle trial is insane!!! One of the best I hit in recent years. Take it if you can.
  7. Amen to this post !!!! Have a Happy everyone!!!!
  8. A buddy and I did Mistissini out of Chibig. one morning last season. Scary trip to say the least. After the tight wooded crap part out of Chibig. it opened up to a nice wide logging road. After that it just spilled into this giant "tundra" area with huge piles of wood/brush piled up in these gigantic mounds. We were following two sled tracks the entire way and with the open area and wind....they just disappeared !!! If it was not for our GPS units I question if we would have made it. As it was I had to take the unit off my mount and walk up a knoll and scout the horizon to really figure out where we were and how far it was. We made it o.k. and I'm glad we went. Dont know if I would do it again though. We also hit Wasswanipi on the way back down. That was pretty interesting place to say the least. Kind of reminded me of Manawan.
  9. No I didnt even consider the Nuvi. I wanted the most rugged and durable unit they make. It's like anything else.....you get what you pay for. I'm sure a Nuvi would be great if you were to only use it in a vehicle.
  10. No problems at all with screen freezing all the way down to -25F. You have to discipline yourself with this unit though. The buttons and touch screen can be used with gloves on and you can easily change things while moving with one hand off the bar.
  11. I think they have a new website this year and I cant seem to view it in English. Can anyone confirm??
  12. I hate that place for two reasons. LOL... First off the trail just plain sucks before and after that place for miles and miles. They cut the trail through some ding weed area that has "bamboo like" twigs/sapplings sticking up by the millions. Some are 3 ft high. Unless there is 8 ft of snow on the ground you have to deal with these things for what seems like 100 miles. They are not friendly at all to the cosmetics of the sled and just plain irritating!!! Second thing involves a personal peeve I have with the place. The utility company up there is also on my shit list. Back 5-6 yrs ago I made a last minute decision to do the 83 & 93 loop in four days, by myself. Yeah, I know....not the wisest in a lot of folks minds. I was running a little behind on day two and pulled into the place about 2:30 or so in the afternoon. I have been to this place several (3-4) times in the past and knew the place pretty well. As I pulled up near the gas pumps there were 3 sledders finishing gassing up. I just flipped the visor open and had a very brief conversation with them. I wanted to know if they were heading north as I was riding alone. Turned out they were heading south. I decided to go in and take a quick break and get some coffee before I gassed up. It was very cold out!! I wasn't in the place for 15 minutes and when I went to the gas pumps (50 ft from where my sled was parked) a guy comes out and says "no power". I said that I just saw 3 sleds filling up less than 15 min. ago!! He then points to a utility truck down the road that was doing some work. So I ask how long it will be off and he says probably 3 hrs!!!!! I'm like WTF !!!!! So there I sat in the dirty break room with shitty vending machines for 2 1/2 hrs. To this day I think they F*%#ED me over thinking it was funny. I could be wrong but it's hard for me to imagine that nobody there made sure I had gas before they cut the power. They know the deal there. If your there on a sled you have come a long way and still have a long trip in front of you with nowhere to go. Nothing like pulling into Chibig. by yourself at 8 at night when it's 25 below. Other than that bullshit, I successfully made the 1100+ mi. "loop" in four days. To this day I avoid the place like the plague.
  13. I went with a Zumo from Garmin last year after using a Garmin V for the last 6 yrs. The Zumo has a built in MP3 player which is nice as I eliminated my other one. It also has an XD card slot for picture viewer. I loaded the Quebec maps on it last year and it worked flawlessly in ALL weather!! The Zumo dosn't recall/store tracks as nice as some of the other units but it has tons of goodies and a great large touch screen. Works great with gloves on. It is designed specifically for motorcycles but I have found it just as good for a sled. They are pricey though. You can even get a "550" model with satellite radio and bluetooth options. Expect to pay 500.00+ for that one. Here is a pic of mine on my machine last year.
  14. For anyone who has not heard (like me until today) that Blair Morgan broke his back and severed his spinal cord in a motocross practice. It happened in Montreal back in late Spetember. I guess he is paralyzed from the mid-back down. He has broke his back before and recovered but this time it looks very bad. Such a tragic end to one of the (if not THE) greatest snowcross riders there will ever be. I met him once at the show in Syracuse one year. Nice guy. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. His website is bmrt.com
  15. I stayed at the Riotel about 3 weeks ago for the first time and wasnt overly pleased with the room or it's cleanliness. Also they had the trail going over this huge mound of dirt and it was very steep and all the snow was blown off it. It kinda sucked. I got screwed over a couple years ago at the Quality Inn in Matane (said they didnt have my reservation when in fact I did make one) so I wont give them anymore business. Can anyone recommened another Hotel/Motel in the area other than the two mentioned above as I want to tuck it away in the back of my little brain for next time. Thanks!!!
  16. Thats a GREAT story 'QKW" !!!! Glad everything turned out alright. And if I had a sled that would get 132 mi. on a tank of gas I would be MORE THAN HAPPY!! I kinda thought about 3/4 of the way thru the story (second woman part) that we were going to get a juicy story about how she took you back to her house to warm you up in her Hot Tub or something.......LOL..LOL but I guess the outcome was as good as it could be....considering....LOL Oh well, maybe next time!! :)
  17. Wound up leaving from a friends house north of Sherbrooke (Weedon) and stayed at the following towns. Thetford Mines St Pamphile Squatec (near Cabano) St Anne des Monts Matane St Pamhile (again) Trails were OUTSTANDING all week and we saw more groomers than sledders on the Gaspesie. Probably rode 700-800 miles of fresh groomed (no other tracks) out of the 1300+ mile trip!!! Here is a pic of what it looked like most of the time. Chris
  18. I spoke to "Andyman" today and he drove through Riviere du Loup on his way to Point a-la-croix and he said there wasnt S%#t for snow there. I called the Universal and they told me they have a foot. Who would you believe? I'm trying to stay around the Cabano/Degelis area but a FU%@ING hockey tournament has every room within 50 miles of there.
  19. Was thinking of using the above mentioned area for a "starting point" this saturday. I havnt been there by vehicle before and was wondering if anyone has a good recommendation on where to stay and leave the truck/trailer for a week. Any trail reports from this area would be great as well. THINK SNOW EVERYBODY!!!!!
  20. Not only is this an INCREDIBLE deal it should also be a "no brainer" to each of us that snowmobile in Quebec. I'm joining today!!! Thanks Greg!!!
  21. That cant POSSIBLY be true. Maybe via a plane but certainly not the borders by vehicle. If they do impose that in two weeks there will be MILLIONS (Austin Powers pinky finger thing) lost per day for both countries in tourism alone. Not too mention a host of other problems. I'm not saying you didnt hear it but I still dont believe it. They have been talking about it for years and it always gets pushed back. I think they might have been referring to entry via airplanes. If they required it by vehicle there would be MILLIONS (Austin Powers pinkky finger thing) per day in lost tourism alone for BOTH countries. I for one have one so it means nothing to me. I would be MUCH more worried getting into Canada if I had a DUI offense versus a passport.
  22. Awesome!!! You should be in video production field!!!
  23. I have been fortunate enough to have been out to Yellowstone/Utah area a few times for a week of mountain riding. Rode an AC Powder special 600 the first time and a 700 Yamaha Mountain Max the next trip. I would love to try a Summit 800R up there. And I also agree with "Quebec trail riding" always being my first choice....there truly is nothing like it!!!!
