  1. Alot of us sledders from the usa pulled out of the Universel Saturday morning. It looked like a mad dash of sleds piling in to the fenced in parking around 4 pm friday.
  2. Also be aware you're very far east and daylight is at a premium this time of year. With no time zone change in Quebec (new brunswick to the south does recognize the 1 hour time difference) you're going to have to haul ass to get in 200 miles before the 4pm sunset I just returned from the Gaspe yesterday, huge snow in the mountains and windblown with huge drifts from just west Of Mont St Pierre around the tip pas Grand Vallee'. The interior trails and south shore were spectacular. I'll give the groomer operators credit, maintaining that north shore is no easy task and takes a gutsy person to run a groomer in that environment. I think Id rather ride clockwise and do the rugged north shore first while Im still fresh, then as the week wears on and the muscles start to stiffen you're on the the south shore back to RDL for awesome cruising.
  3. How about here? http://www.villagegrandenaturechic-chocs.com/?lang=en
  4. I much prefer to eat at the bar downstairs at Richelieu. Not vegan, but more casual and more of a snowmobiler type menu than the upstairs restaurant..
  5. I'll be at the Unversel next saturday evening to begin a gaspe loop.
  6. The weather forecast looks promising for the upcoming week http://collaboration.cmc.ec.gc.ca/cmc/cmdn/pcpn_type/pcpn_type_gem_reg.html
  7. When these border agents scan your passport or enhanced license they can see your entire history. I can understand the possibility of decades old offenses not showing up but any information gathered by the US government on its citizens is shared with border agents. They cooperate to the level that a border agent is deputized in the adjacent country to allow legal pursuit if necessary. While some say its black and white, its really not. Yes a DUI is reason to be denied entry into canada, but border agents are also given the leeway to excuse or ignore it and allow passage if they so choose. Dont expect that with a DUI within 5 years.
  8. Good pizza in quebec? Now theres something you dont hear every day.
  9. Ballet in Gaspe'? Groomer I think you need to draw us a map
  10. The only problem with the enhanced license is that its only good for ground travel. While great for a sled trip, if you were to fly to Canada or Mexico or anywhere else for that matter it is not an acceptable form of identification.
  11. Ski doo wanted a cross country race chassis sled with the etec engine for the iron dog race. It has to be a production sled so in order to qualify they had to build 500 of them, thats why its a mid year release and thats why electric start is optional.
  12. I just renewed my passport, it took 9 days to get the new one from the day I put the renewal paperwork in in the outgoing mail. Surprisingly fast for the US Govt.
  13. Thanks for the hotel advice guys advice guys, we dont like to over plan our stops, just in case somethig different calls out to us as we travel but its nice to hear about those places that stand out. Weve been snowmobiling in quebec since 1992 so Im fully aware of the theft issues. A buddy of mine has been ripped off twice there , once south of St Zenon and another time somewhere in the eastern townships, that time he lost a brand new dodge truck, a new trailer and 3 new sleds, plus all of their gear so now we carry a 20Ft long, 7/8" inch diameter turbine crane cable and a gigantic lock and lock the trucks together, its heavy and cumbersome to lock up but its gonna take some time for some scumbag to cut through it. In 2004 I was parked with my brand new truck and trailer at the lot next to the Quebec Inn, we locked up and headed out saddlebagging. Came back 4 days later to learn that 5 trucks parked around us had been stolen while ours were left alone.. A little effort goes a long way.
  14. One of the biggest issues that us people in the Buffalo area have is the ground was still very warm and the bottom foot fo this stuff is slushy and super difficult to move. To make matters worse, a new lake effect snow warning was just issued for tonight through friday, and the weather man says it wil be an extremely intense band, but not as fixed in one area like the last shot of snow. 10-20 new inches. I actually dont mind the snow, bit Im sick and tired of the non stop media coverage of it. Its western NY, we get snow and sometimes lots of it. Lets move on to a new story.
  15. New member here, longtime lurker and experienced Quebec snowmobiler. This winter will be our groups first Gaspe trip the first week in Feb. Starting from RDL on 2/1, we've set aside 6 days of riding with a 2 day contingency "just in case". Between reading here and google searches I think I've got a good handle on what we want to do but I have a couple of questions about accomodations. We'd like flexibility if possible but we dont want problems, so are there any areas where we can get by without reservations and wing it day by day? Also Id like to hear about those hotels, relais and B&B's that are an absolute must stay and are worth altering plans or extending a days mileage to reach? Like many others who sled, after a long day on the trails, we like a nice meal and a bar, hotubs and comfy beds. So while we want to take the time to enjoy the area, we're not opposed to going out of our way or pushing out sime mileage to get to the right place for the night.
