  1. Did you try Camp Taureau. Just north of Lac Taureau lodge. Not near as fancy as the others places. Main lodge is nice, has some rooms or there is cottages. Cottages are older, fairly basic, have wood fireplaces so still a good place to stay.
  2. He has been posting on the Wuebec Rider Facebook site regularly.
  3. Northern New Brunswick would be a likely option for January. Start from Edmunston, head north to Moose Valley then east to Christmas Mountains and Bathurst.
  4. I don’t mind -25C but when it gets below -30 takes some of the fun out of it. 2014 we went to Val’dor and it was below -30 C most of the time. All that flat straight running was no enjoyment at all. Had my new 2014 Viper, didn’t know about the fuel relay freezing issue at that time. And Yamaha mounts the fuse box where you can’t get at it with out taking hood off and they still didn’t correct the issue in following years. That’s why l switch to Ski Doo .
  5. First time we did the Gaspe in 2017, late February, early March it was mild and wet snow on a few of the days. Not a storm just snow that wouldn’t pack and mild. Combined with lots of traffic it was a choppy ride the whole loop. Since then twice we went early February and had almost perfect trails both times. Was cold -10 to -20C , no real snow so trails setup good and it was before the big rush of traffic which seems to be mid February to mid March. Last winter we were back for a second time mid March for our couples trip. Original plan was to start riding on the Sunday. We had to delay our start until Tuesday as the big blizzard hit the Saturday and Sunday. We went counter clockwise and that gave them more time to get the north shore and chic Choc trail back into shape. Had a near perfect trip. Seems the Gaspe is a crap shoot when it comes to the weather.
  6. How do you make the pics show up in the post? When composing the post the pics download then l hit insert. Pics appear in the draft. After l submit post just the pic links is appearing.
  7. Most of you may already know this about how to clean up the map after you plan your route but l just discovered it today by accident. In Service menu had ACCOMMODATIONS box checked. Did the planned route selecting places wanted to stay at. http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_11/DA34DA6D-D295-4DCA-AB74-F384B624E322.thumb.png.8a9f0d3423df5bdda79b3e95e236a28d.png After completing plan went back into Services menu and UNCHECKED the Accommodations box. http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_11/F16C672E-76A4-47A2-972F-FEADF75CB54C.thumb.png.eed4ccd832ce1c922890d5ef7f721565.png Map is then cleaned up and only shows hotels you plan to stay at. http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_11/256E7429-D411-45D0-8789-DCFAC4EEDA80.thumb.png.f734facafb228dbb7a38d26e74d6c5ae.png
  8. On QUEBEC RIDER Facebook group Groomer posted a link to highway webcams throughout the Gaspe. I didn’t notice how far west they came if RDL is an option.
  9. http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_11/521E62F4-1851-4061-8E15-5D35BA89B2F7.thumb.png.c1060c08813b8f2da6d77883c42b2374.png One of our trips this winter planning the above loop for a group of 6 guys. One of the guys is suggesting the week of March 20th but l’m thinking that maybe a week late to assure good conditions? Remember Iceman and Playhard were up in this area for your season ender last year but l couldn’t find the post to see the dates. I’m doing a NB/Gaspe loop Feb. 25 to March 4 with a different group of guys. If we can figure out the logistics of trucks and trailers l’m thinking we should do the above loop the week of March 4th. I believe this is the week of the Quebec March break? Does the March break have much effect on how busy trails are or getting accommodations? Will likely start from the Roquemont hotel and would like to stay at Windigo lodge first night as have never been there yet. If Windigo isn’t available what other suggestions you have for first night up near LSJ? Anyone stayed at Onatchiway before. How many beds are in their cottages. We stopped in there for lunch a couple times but never stayed. Does Vince own any lodgings at the ski hill now or did they sell it all to the new people. From following different forums and Facebook groups have the feeling there is going to be big demand for lodging this winter from early Feb. to mid March with people from Ontario and the States once again planning trips in Quebec. We went to the Gaspe twice last winter and it was really quiet with the Covid effect. Could wing it for motels but think that will be risky this winter. Thanks
  10. Surprised to see an expansion like that with the new (few years old) Quality Inn right there in Mont Joli. Would think there would be a surplus of hotel rooms in that town. Obviously with that type of capital expenditure there must be demand.
  11. I think a few years ago you could enter all XXX’s for the serial number and it would work. Then email them correct VIN# later.
  12. You getting another 850 Jack?
  13. Toll was $9.00 for truck and tandem trailer last winter. Can tap your Debit or Credit now at the booths now, l don’t think cash is an option now.
  14. It’s been about a month since l have seen an update on the trail 3 closure. At that time the message was the clubs have a reroute planned but due to difficulty getting permits and other challenges it didn’t look like reroute would be open this winter. Last winter there was a couple of towing services offering flatbed shuttle service. Saw one post last year and the cost was ridiculous, another group posted and they paid a reasonable rate but l don’t recall the actual cost. There is a shuttle service at Quebec City but l don’t know the contacts. Someone here will know.
  15. Yes, not working here also. Started having problems yesterday. Wondering if doing an annual update?
  16. Iceman, l can’t tell from the map but will this effect the access to Drakkar at all? Planning a Lac St Jean/Mont Valin loop this winter and considering staging from Drakkar. Also recall you posting pics of Reggie doing some major landscaping project. Does he still have ample truck parking to leave truck and trailers there for a week ? Thanks
  17. Always wondered why such an iconic trail has no trail number? Most people on this forum have ridden the Gaspe multiple times so know it as the Chic Choc trail. But for people thinking about riding the Gaspe for the first time and doing research can’t look at a map and identify the Chic Choc trail. Already have 595 & 597 as interior trails why not have a 599?
  18. FREE WEEKEND I emailed the FCMQ to see about the Free Weekend It is January 14-15 subject to change if lack of snow or other reasons. We usually go to Mont Laurier for our first Quebec trip and want to avoid the free weekend.
  19. We are Canadian Citizens, just spend a couple weeks in NY, VT and NH. Wife did the ArrivCan for both of us on her phone. When we crossed back into Canada border agent scanned both our passports. Never said a word about the ArrivCan App. I assume they can tell if you have completed it from the passport? Not sure if the same applies for a US passport.
  20. Wow Murdochville is lucky it didn’t have a second instant open pit mine right there. Would love to see a video of what exactly transpired there. Someone got awful lucky or kept their wits about them pulling machine away from the pump. Wonder if those pump hoses have some type of a flash back arrestor up at the top similar to what acetylene torches have?
  21. http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_03/AA93A1FC-7F3E-468B-AA37-61D5D57F1E7A.thumb.jpeg.58a50d83cd412932dc5701fee9b57c94.jpeg We come across this moose a week ago on the 587S. Thought it was dead initially but it was still alive. Just moved its head as we rode around it. Some blood on the trail but no obvious reason what led to its demise. Saturday we rode down the 595N for 25 km from trail 5. Incredible the amount of fresh moose sh•t on the trail but surprisingly never saw a moose.
  22. My bet is they make happy hour at the Copper Hotel by 5:00 pm
  23. Saturday was our last day riding there. We rode down the 595 30 km from the 5 towards LaCache. It was getting choppy on Saturday and l see it still hasn’t been groomed since. Have you guys ever went to the lookout on Mont Joesph. About 10 km north of the Carleton clubhouse on the orange trail. Over looks Carleton Seur Mer. As good or better than the Mont Saint Pierre lookout.http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_03/A9ECE4BB-337C-4FCB-A052-001ABF46C3E8.thumb.jpeg.b05ef833251ceaa45d374f9edaa74337.jpeghttp://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_03/4964600C-8153-427C-BCFD-AE6718650D95.thumb.jpeg.540b47ad911d8db1c1fb48eb3d37288a.jpeg
  24. We just got home from the Gaspe yesterday and there is a ton of snow there. Not sure where your coming from Mac but for day tripping Riviere Du Loup maybe best option. l’m sure Iceman or Playhard will be reporting tonight. I believe they departed from RDL this morning.
  25. When we were down there we discovered Auberge Marchand in Maria. Great spot and restaurant. La Francis was full. Also found the Mont Joesph lookout just north of the Carleton clubhouse. Beautiful spot don’t ever hear mentioned. Have a great ride
