Teet F8SP reacted to towing in Joliette/Grand-Mere by #3/#63 trails photo ride-report January 15, 2023
Here is the ride we did last Sunday

With the good snowfall on Friday followed by a mild temperature night, we already knew that the trails conditions would deteriorate  quickly under the effect of traffic, so we postponed our departure to Sunday. We launched directly from the home in St-Thomas de Joliette on Sunday morning under a beautiful sun and a temperature of -15C.

Superb winter conditions, very hard frozen groomed trail  giving ideal conditions. Here on #3 towards Berthierville

The wood sections were very snowy

Nice encounter on this winter morning

The La Chaloupe river is ok but stay in the marked trail!

We continued on #3 to the east with perfect conditions

Another great encounter! they weren't nervous at all, just happy to run outside

In the St-Barthelemy sector where the trail get souther the snow was a little swept but on an icy base it ride very well

I chose to keep #3 and go through Maskinonge village instead of #63 which goes through St-Justin. It's good but there is a section of 500' swept away where you can see the dirt. In the afternoon we came back by St-Justin on #63 instead and it's more snowy

    Here Ste-Ursules sector

We are used to heading between #3 and #63 via St-Sévère but the Rivière du Loup that we have to cross direct on the ice is not safe yet so we opted for #63 trail

We took a break on the beautiful site of the Magnan Falls in Charette

The falls are usually completely frozen but this year you can still see the water flowing

    We continued on #63

And took the #3 towards St-Étienne

And crossed the St-Maurice on the #3 at the height of La Gabelle. A few slush spots but it's marked and rides well

The east side of the St-Maurice was a little rougher but still ride well and the snow cover is very good

We stopped to eat at pizzeria du Lac at Lac à la Tortue near Grand-Mère.

After a good meal break we left and retraced our steps on the same route with a few exceptions. Here in the area of Notre Dame du Mont-Carmel

We did a pitstop in St-Étienne. Unlike past years where the trail passed in the yard between the gas station and the BRP NC dealer, the trail this year passes behind NC and you have to take a very short trail to go to gas or at NC

We saw this impressive dogs team on the way back, there are 2 wide...

We took a break again at the Magnan Falls in Charette but at the top of the falls this time

As I said at the beginning it's rare to see the water in the falls it's usually all hard frozen

We then continued west. The trail conditions had deteriorated a little since our lunch but from the fork of the #350 St-Paulin sector it became very beautiful and fast again until St-Cuthbert.

Here a snow bridge not far from the village of Ste-Ursules

We took the #63 to go through St-Justin, it was superb

We came across the Dozer de St-Barthelemy without the drag which was at finishing some work on the trail

We went through St-Norbert to come back, the trail was more bumpy from the traffic but it was ok

We were back home around 4:30 p.m. with 322kms (200miles) of happiness on the meter!

I know that most of you won't ride that south but the good news is that the trail network enlarge and is getting more and more connected to spread the traffic through. There are few rivers mostly along the St-Laurence river that are not ready yet. St-Maurice river is crossable but the trail on the river is not ready yet. The interactive map seems pretty accurate now on the trail condition.
If we can keep getting January like temperature it will be perfect...
    Bye!

Thanks Snomaster, any e-bike is awesome in my opinion, the pedal assist is just amazing. Mark my word, everyone who you let try it will at first pedal say “Holy Crap” then come back with a smile saying “This is awesome I want one, where did u get it”. And that’s why I let my buds try them out a lot so they will all get them and go riding together.
It’s still good cardio you just get around places a lot easier and definitely a lot faster if you choose.

Teet those are some sweet machines you got there. Mine is a Cracker Jack toy compared to that. Just watched a bunch of videos on them. Just incredible !! One better be in damn good shape to smack one of those around. Would help if you were under 175 lbs and that leaves me out forever...LOL
glad to hear your dad and kids are enjoying them too. Just did the 18 mile “lake road loop” tonight after work. Gonna try and pour big miles on it this year. I bought a leftover Enduro and it’s 16lbs heavier than my current sled which tells me I gotta lose at least that much to make up the difference. Have a great summer and be safe on that thing.

Electric battery and motor technology is advancing at an extremely rapid rate in the past 3-5 years and will continue!!
Check out my E-bike.  Sur-ron 60 Volt.  These pics are from after assembling it when I got it.  It now has a larger sprocket and x-controller for amazing torque and wicked steep climbs.  Also added front and rear fenders for mud protection, even bigger controller is on order for even more power! This bike weighs just over 100lbs and is wicked quiet, not silent but amazing power.  With the 60t rear it tops out at around 40mph but its set up for tight woods trails.  The stock 48t sprocket tops around 52mph with the x controller.  Only one place to get them in the USA right now, videos all over youtube of this bike as its a very popular machine right now worldwide...   It doesn't compare to the Alta redshift full size dirt bike if your trying to motocross it but has no trouble keeping up with it in the trails, wicked light and maneuverable.  With the 60tooth rear sprocket its sometimes a challenge to keep the front wheel down.  https://lunacycle.com/sur-ron-x-bike/
I also have a pedal assist E-bike by Trek.  Its amazing fun as Snowmaster mentioned and makes your ride 3 times as far, 3 times as fast and 10 times the fun!  I bought my 63year old dad one last year and he's had 3 heart attacks and he rides it all the time!  It can literally be set up so you hardly push the pedals and the bike is jumping out from under you.  Lakes hill climbing effortless and this is the part most people don't like.  Ive got almost 500 miles on this bike and the technology in the market is rapidly advancing to where I may want to upgrade in a few years just like my sleds... There is no sound, basically silent, very very slight wine when pedaling fast but not noticeable, very stealthy.  People give me weird looks on the trail when I blow by them going up hill at 20mph...   https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bikes/electric-bikes/c/B507/
So of course I want to get the kids an e-bike to play on too so I found bike called the Sta-Cyc as my kids were 3 and 6 at the time.  Its a 20v battery in a stability cycle with a twist throttle.  Its great for getting little ones use to the twist action of the gas...  My son started on the 12inch and has now taken over his sisters 16inch because he likes that its a bit faster.  I would recommend these to any parent because they are very light so if they crash there is nothing big landing on them and no hot exhaust to burn them either!  Also very quiet.  https://stacyc.com
As my daughter grows out of the 16" stacyc I am now looking at Oset electric trials bikes.  I want her to learn balance and technique rather than MX jumping and crashing getting all banged up.  The trials bikes are something we can have fun with, still jump, still race around and still learn on but again not worry about the weight and gas motors.  These have also become a huge hit and I fear once I get one for my daughter my son want on too!  https://osetbikes.com/us/

We updated trailers this year and ordered a new one from Blizzard around the time of the big east snowmobile show. We just picked it up this week as Blizzard is as busy as they have ever been. Right now they are a 12 week wait if you order a new trailer. We sold our 2007 Blizzard 14ft enclosed trailer a few weeks ago so the timing of the new one was perfect for us. The new trailer is 18ft long plus the V so we can get 3 sleds in the trailer if needed. It is all Aluminum frame and Very High Quality Build!! It is also a stagger model so its much easier to see behind you and a breeze to tow...

I will say the Blizzard quality is second to none, great quality aluminum materials and workmanship! The main reason why we are buying another from them. This one we had the inside pre-finished, moved the man door and gas doors to the driver side and also the front ramp door to the drivers side which is opposite our last trailer because when you park along the side of a road you cant unload from the passenger side. We ordered it with the spring assist on both doors, you could lift them with a pinky finger... These also come with full length tie down channels on both sides for ease of loading and quick tie down. We added a layer of 1/2" advantek floor sheathing to the new floor to beef it up and protect the factory floor. We also added a Stainless fold down work bench along with a coat rack. We will be adding a few more things like fold down seats, heater and generator quick hookups. Maybe a few cat stickers and posters to make the inside a bit more homey...

That blue SRX is baddd assss sharp!  Doo's front end looks like it ran in to a wall or something, they are not as sharp as the 16 xrs in my opinion.  The doo headlight/windsheild keeps getting closer and closer to the front bumper, eventually their rider forward concept will place the engine completely under the rider....  No Cats in pics but maybe you couldn't see them because most are black and white this year which makes absolutely no sense to me why their graphics are behind the time.
All good sleds these days... Some cool new technology introduced.

Wow great day on the trail!  Sure miss that route this year I have not been able to get away for more than a few days at a time this year.  Maybe march is doable.  Anyone know what date Masse shuts down? I know they close up near the mid to end of march and head south before spring fishing season starts up...

I also run the Curve XS, they are a great ski.  Went to engineering school with Nick P one of the owners and he set me up right with the Curves XS Skis that have the leading edge and side thrusters.  The Curves are superior quality thick plastic and very durable, easy to clean and they look great! The bottom of the Curve has a nice profile (pic 3) to it to help grip the trail rather than most skis with flat bottoms.  The side thruster is a very noticeable improvement for cornering and also when riding in loose snow when carbides are not able to dig in...  I turn my thrusters over sometimes (shown in pic 2), like this weekend when I was riding on the really hard packed trail but after 3 inches of fresh snow fell I turned them back down and it was a huge difference in being able to keep the front end planted in corners with the fresh loose snow on the trail.  The idea of the thruster is that it gives you additional surface area on the outside of the ski to allow the ski to track through the snow rather than slide sideways especially in looser conditions.
My dad has had C&A pros on the his last sled and after riding mine with Curves he is now going to Curve once they get more Blue skis in stock.
I am considering selling/trading-in my yellow Curves and getting a set of Blue or Green Curves to match the graphics on my new Cross Country Cat.

My $.02, read if yo want.... As a business owner I do not market or advertise and my business is flourishing!  Its because I treat my clients with respect and provide good services they appreciate.  This way of conducting business is how I market new business.  If you treat people well they will tell others who value the same treatment which will grow the business itself.  I assume this is how many small businesses become established to the point where they can eventually advertise.
I do not use social media, Facebook or anything like that so we rely on reputation and loyalty to keep growing the business.  I would be willing to bet that is the case for many establishments you see along the trails...
