Well better later than never.  I got back from riding Shawinigan on 2/9 and shortly after I get home I was invited by a couple fellow quebecriders Pipeman and Ike to join them on a Gaspe loop.  I have never been out there so I was excited to join them.  Arrived at Shawinigan (Drakkar) Friday evening and we left Saturday morning 2/15 on the sleds.  We ride to catch the “suburban” for a ride across the river. What crossing that was.  We rode along the north shore stopping to check out the snow mummies at Redemption as we worked our way to Percé.  We had a nice wind/snow storm overnight in Percé.  Rode up to murdochville then over to La Cache.  Worked our way up and over to lac Etchemin.  Then headed back to catch the “suburban”  ride and back to Shawinigan on 2/22.  1800 miles.  No issues or breakdowns.  Having those two guys leading my first trip out there was great.  They know their chit and it made things go smoothly.  I appreciate them inviting me along.  I will try and post some pics

Last week we left Perce, rode to Copper for lunch then went to La Cache for the night.  Easy one day trip as the trails are pretty fast.

We are in the middle of a bad ice/snow storm here in upstate NY.  Tomorrow mornings drive should be fun.

Yup the winter carnival.  lol  yes it was around the tour boats in the village.  They keep bubblers going so not to freeze around the boats.  a lot of people run those water spots.  75' distances are actually very easy with just normal momentum.  Doing 50mph and just keeping your throttle consistent (maybe a little more) and just slide your butt back a little bit on the seat you will be across the water almost as if you were riding on ice.    The deeper the lug track the easier it is.  Light sled with a good paddle track and water not easily able to get to the belt and you can ride for miles on water.  But at night.....  that could be a whole different game.  Glad I have gained some intelligence over the last few years.  ;)

Finally made it up for the first time this year this past weekend.  We rode Friday through Sunday in the St. Zenon area, as far south as St Damien, North as Lac Repos, east over to Sacacomie and slightly west of SMDS.   About 570 miles in the three days that we rode.   We found excellent snow coverage almost everywhere along with excellent conditions, especially considering weekend riding.   Classic Quebec trip!!!  Introduced two newbies to the sport and got them spoiled out of the gate.  As no surprise, we encountered fantastic customer service everywhere we went.   It had been awhile since I was in this area.  I chose it because of the newbies and our ability to ride day loops without back packing.  That concept seems to be a bit scary for a newbie!   I noted a handful of trail changes between this time and the last.   Just wanted to give a shout out to all of those involved in one way or another in planning, preparing and maintaining the trail system.   Many other areas, Ontario, Michigan, NY never seem to take pride in their trail systems in terms of spending time to correct problems.  If there's forestry working taking place, they don't seek out a reroute, snowmobilers just have to deal with it or they close the trail down.  If there's a road that must be ridden, again, it must be dealt with and they don't even seem to think about grooming the berm.   Not the case in Quebec.  It seems like every effort is made to make this province a snowmobiler haven!   So for those of you who make that effort day in and day out, I sincerely thank you and appreciate all the hard work.   It is clear reciprocity, the folks know the importance of snowmobilers and snowmobilers feel important and welcomed.   Can't wait to back pack in a few weeks with my traditional group!

If you are moving when you get to the other side and there isn't any weird ice heave or something, your skis transition back onto the ice like you hit just a tiny bump in the trail.  No problem.  Keep your skis straight and center of gravity low and you float across the water pretty smooth and easy.
