  1. Great pics. I'd prefer the 4' of snow though. Lol. How long do I have to wait again?
  2. TQ 63 in both directions of the lodge? Or just east or west?
  3. I've heard mixed reports on conditions in the area. I rode in from the south last winter in February and it was in great shape. Unfortunately was limited on time so had to turn around and head back south on 386, so no idea what the other 3 trails were like. I think mid season it's a good bet. Probably best to watch the grooming delay on the FCMQ interactive map before heading in there. You can complain about gas prices, but reality is they are keeping over 80 km of road plowed to feed the place. I get it. The extra $30 a sled didnt break me.
  4. I could see the local clubs have troubles justifying it. Too bad.
  5. No there is a lodge at the intersection of 386 and 63. Pavillon La Verendrye. They have gas accommodations and a restaurant. Nice spot. Expect $2.50 - $3.00a litre for fuel. It makes this trail system work though.
  6. Lance's in Swisha. It's just a gas station, but they have some cold meat sandwiches there. You can also cross into Ontario (across a not so pleasant steel grated bridge) and there is a restaurant, motel and gas station in Rolphton. Other than that nothing but lakes, closed camps, rocks and trees between stops. It's great running. All forest access roads with minimal traffic. The run from the junction of 383 / 43 south to Lance's is a bit of a hike. You do need to run down there though unless you are packing a lot of extra fuel. I highly recommemd the trip once trails are open. Because of the remoteness it doesn't get first priority though early season. Big area with few volunteers.
  7. I tend to try and purchase from the smaller clubs in more remote areas. The ones that would create a real mess if they folded by knocking out key links from area to area. That and try to pick the areas I plan to ride in.
  8. Is there a groomed trail from Clova north to Martin's? Or is it 50 km of off trail running? Assuming there is some kind of logging road that takes you in there? Also has anyone on here ever ran the Gouin reservoir from one end to the other? Down to Barrage Gouin? Is it an easy run? Or is there places to avoid on it. Looks to be a huge piece of waterway.
  9. Too bad BRP couldn't afford to give you a windshield. Lol. Nice looking sled though. You won't regret the switch to 4 stroke. They are great for so many reasons.
  10. Has anyone heard. Will they be open this winter?
  11. Ones for days mileage. Second is how far you've went since last fuel stop. I'm with the crowd that bitched and am happy to see they listened. They are the best sleds on the snow.
  12. Are you staging from the area? Or just riding in / out? I think there is some pretty decent accommodations in town as you are right at Mont Saint Anne ski area. That said last time I checked we found you couldn't stage from any of the hotels. There was a local farmer charging $5 a day to leave your rig in his yard. Sorry I don't have first hand experience with accommodations there. We ended up staging out of Hotel Signature in QC instead.
  13. For the time it takes to drive across town I'd just stay at Hotel Signature. Good trail access and free parking if you stay there for a night. Still a few busy roads to cross to get out of town, but it's all groomed trail and decent running. Strongly recommend going mid week. Lots of traffic in this area on the weekends.
  14. The orange accents are nice. Very sharp. Just enough, but not too much.
  15. Yeah this seems like an accident waiting to happen. What's wrong with a linq fuel caddy?
  16. Did you still get charged the shipping and handling fee? Or does that only apply to seasonal sales?
  17. In Ontario they have been online only for a few years. The direction is to print the temp permit off and tape it to the sled in the same location any other permit would go. If you get stopped the temp pass is as good as a proper sticker within the temp period which in the case of day or week passes would be the same time frame the pass would be good for. I agree this kinda sucks from an aesthetic standpoint. It's also not weatherproof. I guess it works though. The vin on the temp pass would need to match your sled to be valid. I guess in theory you could buy right before you takeoff and ask your hotel to print your pass off for you on their printer. I think this is the way the free pass weekend has worked in the past as well.
  18. Was reading through the federation site tonight. Am I reading this correct? Online sales only for 2020 for all permit types? https://fcmq.qc.ca/en/trail-permit/line-trail-permits/ If so interesting move. Ontario went this way a few years ago.
  19. As an Ontario resident I can attest we have a great trail system. There are some differences from Quebec, but nothing that should discourage a trip if looking to try something new. For mid February you are coming in prime time. Try Bancroft if you want to ride multiple day trips from one location. North Bay is also a great pic for this. Weather here in the southern and central portions of the province is not as reliable as Lac St Jean, but it is a pretty good bet for mid February riding to be prime conditions. What type of riding and terrain are you looking for? How big of days do you want to put in and what are you looking for in accomodation? I would also recommend Cochrane as a good spot to ride some day trips from. That said your drive from Maine to get up there will be a long one. The weather up there is as reliable as lac st Jean and the trails are exceptional. I love riding in both provinces. Highly recommend Ontario with a little bit of planning and flexibility built in.
  20. Wow!!!! Its 2019 and New York State is just looking at laws of this sort now? Changes of this sort happened in Canada 20 years ago. Snowmobiliers don't carry their wallet cause they might drop it in the snow??? That's complete BS. Time for New York state to catch up to the rest of the snowmobiling community.
  21. No idea. Never dealt with them. I was just good with Google to look up co-ordinates. I'm sure they offer something. I think I'd be checking what my private health coverage will pay for before subscribing.
  22. Nope. 48.4281 is Saguenay 49.9132 is Chibougamau so that plan isn't much good for snowmobiliers as very few trails are that far north.
  23. Interesting that it's just seasonal permits. The day and multi day passes didn't change. Quebec has a great system. Worth the money for the permits. Even if it is the most expensive jurisdiction in North America. I will be back.
