  1. That sucks. We usually stay there. What's up with fuel now? Last year we pulled up to Rabaska at about 5:00 to find their staff building burning down. Pretty awful but the owner, a woman that I don't remember her name seemed to take it in stride. Still served us dinner and took time to talk with us. She was happy no one was hurt. Why do these places seem to burn down? She did say the fireman got there 45 minutes after the call, which she said was great. I guess any fire will be fully engulfed in that time.
  2. Some. I always like to take pics of the "bad" things that happen...cause they're great to talk about later and usually bring a lot of laughs! Blue Yamaha - mine. Hit a log that was on the trail earlier in season. Bent the trailing arm. Another 100 miles of flexing and it broke! Fortunately we were about 1.5 miles from our destination, Joncas and they/we fixed it up! Called the sled "Frankenstein" from then on. Still have. Moose was on trail. Near as we can figure it was taken down by wolves...according to the hunters of our group and its path through the woods. Sad, but neat thing to see. Attak - went slow over that "bridge" and caught a ski. We were taking a local trail back to Maniwaki. The beams under the sled were thick...no idea how deep the water was. The rest of us just skipped over. T660 - Riding down a plowed road with snow, rider kept going on snowbanks.....and flipped it! Right in front of me! I knew it was going to happen and slowed down before. Sled made the rest of trip after a detour to Val'dor and the Arctic Cat dealer.
  3. What about night riding???? Completely different!! I sometimes feel like I'm in the middle of nowhere....and I ride in Upstate NY!! By the way Groomer, excellent pics on your other thread as usual!!!!
  4. I've probably done it about 5 times. Joncas is the first place we stay on our loop. Pricey place but what part of snowmobiling is cheap???!!!! Last year we took 13 south to 322 to 63 to Joncas to add some miles. Some nice lake running on 322....unless you go the week after a thaw and its bare ice!!!!! Then it can take a while (overheating...)
  5. We've stayed at #2 a bunch of times and never had a problem. (knock on wood!!) In fact the staff there has always been really good to us.
  6. Didn't know it was closed. I think we stayed there....4 years ago??? Parked sleds in the barn. Neat place. This year we fueled up in Clova and kept going. What's the story with the burned up sled that was there?
  7. Who says the Gaspe is not so great???? Its awesome! It is a must do for the serious saddlebagger. Long drive but well worth it!!!!
  8. I have ridden in Quebec about 10 times, at least 1000 miles a trip and have never seen a cop. And never had my sticker checked. Unless they do it when I'm away from sled? Not that I would ever not get the permit. Nor am I saying that people shouldn't get one. The trails are awesome for a reason.. Its just an observation. Maybe because I ride in the less populated areas?
  9. Thanks for the info! I think I'll be getting mine before 12/9/09!!!!
  10. No problems with any fuel in Quebec. This year we mainly fueled up at the lodges we stayed at also. Our group runs mainly 4-strokes though. But even the 1 2-stroke we ran with had no problems....
  11. Nice thread. A big thank you to all the people of Quebec that make our trips so enjoyable!!! I wish I could go more!!! :drinks: Where else would I eat snails?!!
  12. Thanks for the pics!! I was in some of those same areas 2 weeks ago and we had a blast! Saw a lynx...pretty cool. to you and your wife!!!!
  13. For the most part around Maniwaki I did not notice that the 4-wheelers had been on the trails. Rabaska is north-east of the Baskatong. Great place to stay with nice cabins. Last time we were there they made room in their heated garage for our sleds. It was very cold (-40F) and the 4-strokes wouldn't start at that temp. We did have to share some trails with 4-wheelers around there. We rode the Mcdoo?? trail there which was very good. Not signed as well as the federation trails but if you know where you want to go you'll get there. Balbazard was great also. The waitress/bartender/owner is very nice to look at! On the trail you can see the remnents of the forest fire that went through there. Brutal....
  14. Hey all, quick report. We dropped at Maniwaki, rode to Joncas, Balbazard, Rabaska, Mekoos and back to Maniwaki. Trails were for the most part great. The thaw did harden them up pretty good but it started snowing and by Friday some areas had 6 inches so after grooming I'd say they would be perfect!!! Let me know if anyone wants info on our trip and I'll try to help!!
  15. We are still deciding on our trip. Leave from Maniwaki, head to Val'dor, Clova etc. Or head to the Gaspe. What do you think? 5 hour drive for us to Maniwaki, 11-12 hour drive to Gaspe. Thanks for any info!!!
  16. We will be saddlebagging. Leaving from Maniwaki if conditions allow us. That's a 5 hour hour drive. Maniwaki, Val'dor, Clova Parent and south...or something along those lines.....Or..........Gaspe..leaving from Riviere du loup. 11-12 hour drive. Both areas are great so it really doesn't matter as long as we go!!! Post up any conditions in the Maniwaki area if you got em!!
  17. I live an hour from Tug Hill and ride there frequently. Yes it can be bumpy but its the only place in the state that almost always has snow!! If you go during the week the trails can be tabletop smooth!!! This year has been great up there. That being said I still love going to Quebec! Already went once and leaving again this Sunday for a week!!!!!
  18. That sucks but I guess it could have been worse...
  19. Blizzman, I see what your getting at now....Sounds like we are all looking at it the same way but the damn lawyers have to take common sense out of the equation!! And no, I don't speak french so thanks for translating...made more sense.
  20. Blizzman are you serious? Just trying to get everyone worked up?? It worked!! "No but they can be sued for improper signage. There are no signs indicating stay right or hill." Are you saying there needs to be signs to stay right at the top of a hill??? People need to be responsible for their own actions. Bad thing about those pics is if something did happen, it would have involved an innocent rider who was staying right. By your logic, we should post signs in the bathroom reading "pull down pants before taking a crap" Another vent on those pics, why would the riders ride on Groomers freshly groomed trail if they could avoid it?? Stay off it and let it set up if possible.
