regarding the helmet, was the sizing/fit the same as the BV2S? I want to order but I have found some helmets fit differently.

    Thanks in advance

    Mike

My Bv2S is an XL and the Oxygen I tried was a Large. It was pretty tight and I would opt for the XL Oxygen vs. the L if I was buying one for myself.

Nice report Terry. Now tell us what your spring snow check order will be!

I'm disappointed they didn't put the 900 Ace in the 129 G4 and I don't understand why they don't put the non-turbo 900 in the MXZ X. Except for 8 or 10 days a year, all my riding is in the NEK and northern NH. There are two 850s in our group, one is an Adrenaline gade and one MXZ X. For the trails I ride most of the time, I can't exactly explain why I don't care for the Ski-Doo 137 and yet love my Polaris 137 (as well as the 129 MXZ X).

One thing is for sure, I'll be keeping the Polaris another season (unless Polaris announces a 129 Axys Monday night).

  3. I went to the NH Snodeo Friday and rode the new 900 Turbo in the Grand Touring, Adrenaline, Enduro and X versions. Wasn't very crowded so I kept riding them over and over. Also tried an 850 Enduro, 850 Backcountry X Renegade 147, XRS 850 gade, X 850 gade, mid-season MXZ 600R and the Blizzard 600R. I really wished they had a non-turbo 900 in the gen 4 to try...

My impression of the 900 Turbo is if you have a 1200 now, you will be very happy and/or love the 900T. Great power, no turbo lag, can't even hear the turbo, sled gets quieter the faster you go. It should be no surprise, the 900 Tubro feels very heavy compared to an 850 or 600 in the same chassis. In general, I find the Gen 4 steering to be heavy feeling (it certainly is heavier than the steering on my Pro S Switchback) and the 900 T compounds that. Of the four versions I rode, I felt the "X" package rode the best.

I also got to try the new Oxygen helmet out on the trail. It is noticeably lighter than the Bv2S and quieter (there is additional sound protection in it). I didn't find a great improvement of left and right visibility but the visibility looking down is amazing. Heated visor and plugged in is mandatory (or cracked open). I closed it not plugged in and it started to fog right up.

My favorite sled of for the conditions and trail type was the Blizzard 600R. The mid-seas MXZ 600R is way too stiff for my likening. The new 600R is very different than the older 600 e-tec. Most notable is no engine breaking like the older 600.

Today I had the smoothest trails possible This morning I was in the hot tub. And tonight I had the best duck ever at the Levesque.

You might want to be driving the groomer ahead of me going EST!!! to get me to leave RDL. Not to mention I think I've seen about a thousand sledders head EST in the past few days. We will have time to negotiate my terms of traveling EST. If I were you, I would find a chef to go along on our trip, and book hotels with only the best of spas. We will need to hire someone to drive my truck from hotel to hotel to haul my necessary survival gear. Start planning!!!

    Funsucker.

  5. Amqui to RDL and back in the USA!!! Left Amqui early this morning and the plan was to see the snow trees on this trip then back to RDL. Riding solo way out in that no man's land (587), in near white out conditions at times (thank goodness for GPS), got to my head and I decided I wanted to be on a blue trail! I probably should have stuck to green and club trails because the traffic+temps+fresh snow = loads of bumps on trail 5. No big deal, the Axys just eats that junk right up!! ;-)

I have to say, I was both happy and sad to get back to RDL. Time to start dreaming about the next trip!

Just over 300 miles today, #5W and dropped down to 35 at Tourville, W to below Monmagny, dropped down to 55E to St. Pamphille. Most places that had trail closures are now open. Small section of 35 not groomed due to thin snow, and below Montmagny thin but adequate snow. Few short ice patches or frozen slush patches. All in all most was nicely groomed.

Today Terry and I did my favorite loop, 5E to Rimouski, 35 S  &  W to Squatec, and 171SW to RR bed 85. Beautiful along the river before Squatec, and same along lake on 85. 250 mile day, in by 4:30.   Almost every mile on the whole trip freshly groomed. Met maybe dozen on-coming sleds all day.  5E on the power lines was smooth fast and oh so much fun, as were the rolling hills thru the fields of Rimouoski.

    Great day!

250 miles today going west to Tourville, over to Sp Pamphile, From there started over the mountain on 571 but met someone saying its a no go. Went back to RR bed #35 and made our way east and then south to Chavellier Club on #35 and stayed on 35 to 85 to RDL. Lots of fresh groomed trails that again weren't on this morning's grooming  report. When we left the hotel this morning we took 526 east up along the St. Lawrence, the section I call the shortcut to 5 or the 'bypass'. I would avoid this for awhile. One field is now a frozen lake but may be some time before the groomer dares to trust the ice.

A very good site for checking conditions early in the season or after a meltdown is Sledmagazine.com, hit trail conditions, then scroll down to regions like Bas St Laurent. This gives a condition listed by every club in the province, listed as red, yellow or green. Right now Chaudierre is showing almost all red.

As for RDL riding, there is good riding, lots of excellent riding (I haven't been to Rimouski so not sure about that area which is on of our favorite loops). If Lac St Jean area is better, I would go there instead due to some important trail closures in this area.

Where do you want to go on our next trip Sandi?  Maybe RDL?  Is anybody going to be out there say the weekend of Jan 13th & 14th?

Good riding to all and be safe.

    Jack & Sandi

The mayor of RDL (mikerider) lands there this weekend and I'm meeting up with him on the 12th for the week. Hope we can catch up!

  10. You are not going to be happy with my two word description of the PIDDs GPS function: almost useless. The GPS functions about the same as a $80us Garmin eTrex. As Cnc said, trail maps are provided by clubs willing to participate with Polaris and participation seems to be only popular in the mid-west US states. If you are looking for GPS functions such as trail numbers, intersection numbers, lodging, gas, routing and maybe even turn-by-turn directions, you need to get a Garmin with an add on trail package.

It's a great gauge but not a great GPS.

Here is the level of trail detail on the PIDD for northern VT and NH:

    G2050386.JPG

Not a great picture, but all those green lines on the Garmin are trails.

Here is a better picture of the same area shown on the PIDD in the top picture. This is a Garmin with an add on package.

  11. Garmin Zumo 590 and Garmin 276Cx both have a 5" screen. The 276Cx isn't a touch screen but uses the same mount as the Montana 610, Zumo has it's own mount.

I bought the Montana (used via this forum) and it has gpstrailmasters.com trail maps. The Montana has a 4" screen and I mounted to the handlebars via a RAM mount. The RAM mounts are excellent!. I haven't felt like I needed a larger screen, probably because I have it closer to me than mounted atop of the gauge cluster.

A 5" Nuvi with a AquaBox and a RAM mount is an option as well.

    I don't know anything about Track-Maps, but I've been happy with gpstrailmasters.com.

    Hope that helps.
