  1. Is that Fort Ramsey just outside the town of Gaspe????
  2. Great to have another person on board that is a "Quebec Addict".
  3. You must have something tougher than that don't you? The Sentier Du Lynx is a hiking trail going out of Mont Ste. Perrie, also part of the trail system. I saw that this summer as well. Sorry scorpionbowl,
  4. Scorpionbowl, I just happened to be through there in mid July and saw it green. I have been through in the winter on different occasions and met Patsy. She is a real sweet heart.
  5. This to my knowledge is the only motel in Godbout, on the North Shore.
  6. I don't think I am right, but it looks very similar to the Chandler clubhouse in the Gaspe.
  7. I agree fully on this place as well. The gentleman that runs this is very (sled) friendly. The time I stayed there he called the man who runs the gas station and convinced him to come and open up when the station was closed to sell us gas.
  8. I saw that. The early season pass is more than last years full season. I think I heard the increase is due to insurance costs. $225 my seem like a lot of money but when you understand the cost of providing their trail system, it isn't that much. Quebec one of the top 3 snowmobile destination in North America in any poll.
  9. I wear an Arctic Cat black and chrome TXI with a heated shield. A very nice helmet in my opinion. It is warm and I have never had fogging or frost issues.
  10. I wear Choko Claws. They are the warmest thing I have found. Last winter I took a pair of gauntlets on my cross PQ trip. I used them some days and put them in my bags other days. I believe I will follow Rob's lead and always have them packed for when it turns really cold.
  11. When you go saddlebagging in PQ, what do you have in your bags (not including clothing)? Lets make a list, I'll bet it will make a good resourse when packing for your next trip. He are some of the things I always take along: Flashlight Extra Turnbuckles for Saddlebags Plastic tie wraps Small tool kit (sockets, multi head screwdriver, adjustable wrench) Tow rope Sharp knife Extra heated shield cord
  12. A 2000 mile saddlebag trip is a major tour. It requires a lot of planning and fore thought. You might put a post up on here asking what people recomend packing in their saddle bags to get some ideas on what you will need to take along. One person can't carry it all so the list could be spread between all of your group. Here is a possible loup you could make without traveling the same trail more than once. Starting in the Montreal area I would start on the TQ 63 and travel west till you you hit the 309. On the 309 go north then switch to the TQ83. At Senneterre travel the TQ93 right through, you will pass Chibougamau, past Lac Saint Jean to Mt. Valin. Stay on the TQ93 till you meet the TQ3. At this point you can go north to Baie Comeau over to Matane and back on the TQ5 to you place of start or go south on the TQ3 back to place of start. I have stayed at a lot of places along this route but I am not great at remembering names of motels. The place that charged you $400 sounds like the exception rather than the rule. This is certianly a great place to gather information on saddle bagging in Quebec.
  13. I wear Choko jacket, pants, boots, Claw Mitts and RU Outside EC2 base layer. I can quite honestly say I have never been cold while sledding.
  14. Let me be the first Caveman to step forward. I use the 800 X 600, might be because I haven't admitted to needing glasses yet. I like the bigger font. Maybe I will by a bigger monitor.
  15. I have had a rule of thumb the last few years of $1.00can/ mile. About the only thing I don't calculate that you did would be belt cost. I have not replaced a belt on the trail in at least 10yrs. I do however put a new one on every season as part of my pre-season prep. I think anyone that uses yours or my number will be very close. I like to eat steak and likely have somewhere around 4 -6 beer per day. So in my opinion you enojoy your trip for a reasonable price. The cost is not much different that going to Cuba for a week.
  16. I would say my favorite motel would be Motel Mont St- Pierre. It is not a super fancy place but the service and food is good and the scenery whether you are coming or going is world class to say the least.
  17. Timbo you are right on with the west of Chapais. But wow you are a long way off with the second guess, you see what I mean when you find out where it is.
  18. Here is a pic to go with your last one S pump of the snow in front of the window. Here is MACDAV and 2004MXZ the day after the storm at the Quality Inn in Matane.
  19. Funny thing this is an area I really enjoy sledding, but have very few pictures from. This is one I took of the bridge, I think it is almost as good as some of Rob's bridge pics Here is a pic of my favorite section of trail n the region. Baie Comeau to Godbout That whole trail is like a roller coaster ride
  20. Does anyone recognize this fancy place??
  21. My new G/F went with me late last winter. She loves to sled. It was a little bit slower than when I travel with the boys, but we both had an incredible time. We traveled 450 miles in 2 1/2 days. She had seen my PQ pictures before we left and it was neat when she would stop me and say "I saw that in the pics". She also said something that is very true; "Pictures do not do the Gaspe justice" I have heard that from many people when coming up for the first time.
  22. Looks like Indy Al is in trouble again.
  23. Welcome Aboard Rob. Any trips planned yet??
  24. I agree fully with the others. The difference in our sport between good times and poor is snow conditions. A couple good old fashion winters and we will forget these bad times. "Western Canada and Western US last winter had record snowfalls, this translated into very high new machine sales and cleaning vitually all the old sled inventory out" (this was stated by Ed Klim of the International Snowmobile Manufactures Association at the ISC meeting this spring in Minnesota)
