New Starting point

We have a saddlebag trip planned for feb 6th -13th We planned on starting from mont Laurier but I’m guessing after this weekend and warm temps next week we we might not be able to get back to mont Laurier to the truck and trailer if we are even lucky enough to leave from there. So we are changing our launch point and right now it is between du lac du repos, camp taureau ( Canada adventure, or we stay the first night in mont  laurier leave in the truck in the am and start our ride when we get to cheval (they don’t have a room for the 6th but do have 12th. We don’t want to travel in the truck more than we have to so I’m leaning towards camp taureau but do they have enough snow? So where would you seasoned vets start that has enough snow to leave and get back to, and isn’t too far away. We are coming from Syracuse, NY. And our loop is

mont Laurier (was)

100 lacs

relais 22

chibougamau

metagami

lac fallion

mont Laurier (was)

any help from people who have been through those starting points lately would be appreciated, thanks

You could launch from Sainte Anne Du Lac, 45 min north of Mont Laurier on route 309, call Resto Bar Relais du tourime and see if they have rooms and parking for the dates you have.

Do you think saint ann du lac will have and keep enough snow for the week?

Never drove to camp taureau but stayed there one year. I think we eliminated that one cause that would make our last day 340 miles

Sainte anne du lac would be my vote.  If they don't have snow there your whole trip is probably screwed.  There is several public lots in town for snowmobilers and less than an hour from Mont Laurier.  Either stay in Mont Laurier or at the motel in Sainte Anne Du Lac as stated above.  Thats where the snow line will be.

Actually looking at the forecast and the rain does seem to be forecast in the east where its forecast for snow further west.  Have you considered running your loop in the opposite direction?  Saint Michel Des Saints is probably the safest option as iceman stated.  Maybe stay in Clova first night.  Reports of low snow in Amos.

Ever driven to Camp Taureau?

ice road truckers

lots of snow up there

if needed drive to St Michael or St Zenon

We parked in St Michele last week. Jumped on the reservoir and off and running north, cutting quite a few miles off of 63 & 33. Worked out well.
